Silly me, I was looking for a 'flying bat'
Well, you're supposed to think that a 'black bat' is a flying bat  ;)

Great old school style games.

I need desparate help in game 1:
I promise that there will not be anymore of these mazes in the follow up games of Merlin :)
Spoiler
Did you take the note that was posted on the sign by the bridge (Joshuas bridge). Look at the name at the bottom (there are 4 possible names). Ignore the "I"s in the name and just follow the directions of the rest of the characters...

This can happen if you don't look at the map when you enter the maze. Try going south twice to leave the maze. Then enter it again and look at the map and make sure to go in the correct directions.

I know this is an old thread but I just wanted to point out that the full game is now available. It has also been updated. Have a look in the "Medium Length Games" area.

Oh, I see it isn't the full version. I just finished the game. Job well done, I'd say - it was awesome. When will the other parts be released?
The full game is now released. Changes have been made to the GUI and the resolution has been changed to 640x480 to avoid confusion with all the scrolling rooms.

The download link in the origional post (that started this thread) has been updated so you can now enjoy all four parts of the game. Besides the resolution and the GUI changes I've also updated many of the sprites and added more animations.

Oh yeah, there is also a second Melrin game available called "Melrin: The pendant quest" which you can download from here. In this second game you can't die

I have found first crystal and have talked to fairy and have crossed water but can't get across bridge - I know this is part one so is that the end of the game?
Please download the full game that is now available. The screen resolution has been changed to 640x480 and the GUI have some changes to, which makes it easier to find those pesky hotspots.

Download from here

Hints & Tips / Re: merlin 2
Sun 08/08/2004 14:54:18
I've noticed that I haven't been to active on this forum, since I've just noticed this thread about my game. I was before a bit surprised that everyone seemed to finish the game without asking me one single question about it. I thought that I maybe had made it to easy.

Congratulations cittymom for finding the easter egg. Just to save you the time I might just tell you that there is no easter egg in Melrin 1: The disciple ordeal so you can stop looking for one.

About the second rope.... You're not suppose to find that since it shouldn't exist. There is a rope where you step off the boat if (and it should be only if) you haven't picked it up at the docks before leaving. I had to put it there since you wouldn't be able to finish the game if you missed the first rope. The fact that you might have been able to find a second rope is a bug, but since it isn't serious (you just pick up another item that is never used) I've ignored it.

I've also been told about the bug that some of you have experianced about not finding the item that is used to break the ice. But I have not been able to reproduce this behaviour so I don't know how to fix it. The workaround however is to pick up a second egg. Leave and then return at once. The birds nest should now be gone and you may interact with the tree stump.

If you liked this game make sure to look out for Melrin 3: The dragon menace which I will release in a few weeks.

Cheers,

Thanks for the grammar corrections. I'm glad you didn't mention anything about the bartender since he speaks that way ;)

I really can't recreate this problem but please try this:
Spoiler
Take the egg. Then walk back inside where the transporter is, but instead of using it walk back outside. The nest should now be gone and you can interact with the tree stump.

I think i found a bug in Melrin 2 ???:

Spoiler
Both before and after i get the egg from the tree stump on the island of portals i cannot interact with the stump itself to get the object i need to break open the cage after casting the metal to ice spell. I have restarted several times and still get the same result, am i doing something wrong or is this a bug??
[close]
Hmmm........ I've played through that part many times so I don't know if you've found a bug or not....
Spoiler
You've picked up the egg and you've turn Angelas bars into ice but now you can't interact with the tree stump to get .... well, the correct tool ? Have I've understood you correct? If so what happens? If you indead have found a bug I really want to correct it but I've tried to play to the part you describe and I have no problem getting.... the correct tool.

i have played melrin before and i have seen quite a few improvementsÃ,  ;D
now i dont know what to do after i cross the water cause the first versionof the game has ended there
Yes well when I first released it I said it was part 1 of a 4 part game. This version contains all 4 parts, you have to get all four crystals before the game is over. I know now that I shouldn't have posted my origional Melrin game here since it was more of a demo but we all learn as long as we live. I hope you like the game anyway.
#314
Yes that's the end of the demo. He will have a reply for you in the full game.

A demo of Melrin 3: The dragon menace is available.

This game is now released. Have a look here.

[OLD STUFF]
This is a demo of the third Melrin game I'm currently working on. The demo contains the full part 1 (except there is no music yet) of the game that when it's completed will be in two parts.

The plot: A rumor that a dragon is pesting the country side have reached the royal castle. So the king sends out Melrin (now known as 'The Protector', play Melrin2 to find out why) to find out if this rumor is true or not.

The GUI is the same as in Melrin2, you have your Book of Spells and your small couldron in which you create the spells.

I've made two games for you guys to try out.

The first is called Melrin: The disciple ordeal. I've actually posted Part 1 of this game before, but this time it has been remade and contains all 4 parts.

What I've changed from the earlier post: Many of you complained about the confusion all the scrolling rooms caused so I've changed the resolution to 640x480 so there is no scrolling rooms. I've also changed the GUI to make it easier to spot all hotspots. Instead of being able to cycle through different cursor to walk, look, talk, or interact there is now only one cursor. Left click means either walk, talk or interact. Right clicking on a hotspot or other character means look at.

The cursor now also flashes when you hover a hotspot or other character.

The story: That I can't tell you because our hero Melrin finds himself in a strange land. He has no idea how he got there or what he's doing there. So your first mission is to find out why he is where he is.

Here's a couple of screen shots:

The second game is called Melrin: The Pendant Quest

This time Melrin has to find the royal pendant that has been stolen, and he has to do it in three days or a curse will destroy his land by fire and water.

Unlike the first Melrin game you can't die in this. The GUI is pretty much the same as in the first game, but you have two items in your inventory with special meaning. The first is your book of magic, looking at it in the inventory will bring up a list of available spells. Clicking on one spell allows you to read how you can create it. The second is your small couldron in which you drop items to create a spell. Looking at the couldron brings up a GUI that allows you to take out items you've dropped in it or allows you to create a spell (if you have the correct items needed).

This game is in hi-color 320x240.

Coming soon:Ã,  Melrin 3: The Dragon Menace
