Thanks.
And why not make it an entry? It fits the requirements for this competition, perfectly blends with the bg style and looks great. Mind if I borrow this if I ever use this background for something? :)

I think Alarconte got this impression because of the text in the middle that sorta sounds like an FPP oldie rpg type, but exactly as Gilbet said, it's totally up to you. Just state that it's a splash-type sprite if you're submitting one, because they tend to be larger than regular, third perspective sprites.

And the pic was once intended to be a background for a typical 3rd person adventure game. The white GUI area was supposed to be the place where dialogue options appear.

I added trophies to the first post, and I hope there will be at least one more entry so that all the trophies can be claimed :)

So you are given this background, and your task is to create a sprite of a person or a creature that the main character would have a chance to encounter in this desolate world of dead trees, tar pits and ash fields.

Rules:
1. Your sprite must fit the theme of the background, which is a post-apocalyptic fantasy world. So, no power suits this time, though gadgets like old-fashioned rifles are allowed. Just don't make it scream 'hi-tech'.

2. It would be nice if your sprite fit the style of the background, but it is not required. Make it fit size-wise instead.

3. You are free to make literally anything, a human (or elven or whatever) being, a monster, an animal or a magical creature, as long as it has something to do with an idea of a devastated world (a mutated unicorn, a tar monster, a goblin junk collector etc.)

4. I'm gonna borrow ProgZmax' idea since it turned out really interesting and fun: you can name your character or creature and give them a short description. But this is not obligatory.

And again, try to follow the theme and the atmosphere, and not necessarily the style of the given picture.

Okay then, so after a real hurricane of entries submitted for the Camp Copycat, the sprite jam is back to the usual, 'trigger but a few entries' old form, I guess. Still, hope you have fun with this one too =)

QuoteBtw, good luck Kastchey thinking up another competition.  ;)
Shut up =P  ;)

Gadzooks! Am I now to come up with a third competition in a row? I suppose I have just used up my lifetime of 'winner' entries...

That was a great read, ProgZmax, and one of the best AGS competitions ever hosted. It'll be hard to come up with something even half as fun as this one, but I'm gonna try my best.
(Edit: And whoa, the trophy... amazing work. This is really something special)

And by the way:
QuoteKrissy's upbeat, carefree nature often gets her in trouble with Nurse Rubens
I had EXACTLY the same thought.

It could have been an elephant for all you know. As well as a group of five victims, all killed in this single room. They'll all fit inside the rolled carpet if you slice them well enough.
Actually, this was rather meant as a joke edit, not a serious reply... so lol indeed =)

(and rbaleksandar might have a point about the hints of a bloody fight in the room IF there had been one, which we don't know)

No way! That's what *I* did after quitting *my* office job =D

Sorry.. couldn't resist XD

pilferinloot: Wow, finally somebody who apparently doesn't want me dead in that dream of mine. These golden wings of hers are lovely.
jerakeen: Beautiful work. It really asks to get animated, especially the snakes.
yarooze: Woah. Looks like one of those horror creatures from Earthdawn (if anyone still remembers what that was). Very cool entry.
Evil: Like I said... this is the most horrifying entry of them all. And yeah, this guy simply asks for being depicted that way.
EdLoen: I'd say the second most horrifying entry. If that woman was after me, I'm pretty sure I'd run away screaming.
Bulbapuck: Oh gosh. That thing would surely give me an instant heart attack the moment it turned to me. Wouldn't even have to get those jaws into work.
Mr Matti: So I was stupid enough to follow the Death in Person. Serves me well then, I guess (and very nice shading, by the way).

And rhape, nice photo manipulation, the face fits just perfectly. And lol, what a dark raven of the black coven.

And after a really hard time choosing between all the cool entries you posted, I announce that...
...EdLoen
will be the host for the next competition. And is given this: .
And also that Bulbapuck gets this: ,
and pilferinloot, this: .
And that the winners were REALLY closely followed by the other entrants.
Thank you all for participating.

Okay guys, you solved the last one. That's Carlotta indeed.
This was fun to me too, so I might come up with the next round =)

Critics' Lounge / Re: Simple Wall-E sprite.
Thu 23/04/2009 18:52:05
Might be because of the so-called 'banding effect' on the back of his head (1), outline lighter than the interior color in a shadowed area of the sprite (2) and the lack of shading (hence lack of depth effect) in the tracks.

Looks very nice though.

Looking great! If that's for ep. 3, then I wonder what are graphics for the Murran Chronicles Episode 8 gonna look like if you keep on improving like this.

And one thing about the windows. Usually when you look through the window while standing in the middle of the room, all you can see is the most distant part of the view simply because the wall is blocking the view of the other (closer to you) areas outside. And that makes the perspective of what you can see through the window really flat and distant, making it look something like this.
Unless the bushes grow directly over the window in you picture?

Or take a look at this simple animated picture, the second frame imitates a window view:

It might not be the best example, but hope it helps at least some.

Akril15, thank you, glad you like it. And congratulations =)

This leaves us with only one character unguessed, no. 10.
Hint:

She was one of the two main female NPC in the third (I think) part of a well known adventure game series.

Desaturation, then hue value moved a bit towards red. Then +brightness and +contrast.

Buckethead, wow. That's really beautiful. And hofmeier, you know, not matter which entry wins the competition, you do deserve a special prize. You nearly made me fall off my chair laughing with that one.

Very nice! I thought that maybe a bit of color tweaking would make the image even more pleasant to the eye, and made this example (hope you don't mind me doodling with your works like every single time). Also made some minor changes to the light&shadows (like added a light reflection to the bed cover and the ceiling over the second lamp).

As for Ken, how about you try a total revamp like you did with the background? As for now, the style of your new background looks alot cleaner than the character. Maybe you could try your previous idea of making a shadowless, solid color sprite?

It does have a female head and it is lying on its back. And it is a scorpion-like thing. Yet, remember that in this picture the creature is simply stocked in Stan's jungle shop. In the actual game it wasn't quite as dead as it looks now...  :=
