Excellent, thanks for pointing me in the general direction of those!

Hurrah!

Now the only question that remains is whether I'll be able to find one.
#103
Because Americans use crazy dating systems, I'm not sure whether you mean the 11th of October or the 10th of November. I assume you mean November but I HOPE you mean October ^_^

Well, I've read all up on this now. Thanks for the advice! I've decided to get an Elite, however, yes... there are none to be found here. I'll be ordering one online.

So, first of all, if I order one and have it sent to Japan, is my warranty just as good here if I need to have it repaired?

Also, where's the best place to order one? I checked out amazon.com. Erm, that's it.

I want an Xbox360. Right now. It bothers me that I could be playing Ninja Gaiden and N3 and Bioshock and other great games right now... and yet I'm not.

I could go straight out right now and buy one but... I hesitate. The technical problems that original releases of the 360 have are my primary concern.

I live in Japan and Microsoft is very unpopular here. How can I trust that an Xbox 360 I pick up in a store here won't be an older model?

So, is there a way for me to know by looking at the box whether I'm getting a decent model?

Any tips? I'll order one online if I must.

I'll do it!

God, I don't even really come here anymore, I thought I'd pop in and browse the first thread and what do I see but some pointless shit storm.

I don't care about arguments to do with bold letters or what makes a good shooter, but Chicky, your posts have an attitude which is all half-arsed and that I cannot stand.

Pick one of the following personalities please and stick with it:

1. I'm better than everyone and I'm here to make people hate me. So there.

2. I'm here to socialise and contribute and give opinions on things and allow others to do the same.

At the moment, you're somewhere inbetween. Don't tell people to chill and to stop getting up you then brag about how pissing people off was your intention. If someone makes a comment about you posting in bold, try to understand where they're coming from (it IS unusual and can be irritating) and if you still think you ought to be able to anyway, then tell them like a grown up that you think it's perfectly acceptable.

People who try to be clever and then respond to any criticism with a scathing, smart arsed defensive attitude really disappoint me. Be properly clever and smart arsed or not at all.

Your previous post wasn't sarcastic. Perhaps you tried to make it sound that way with a few over-the-top jokes but in the end, you had a problem with feeling like you'd been told off and you didn't really know how to handle it.

Yeah, does suck about that :/

We shall meet someday, Vince! Then our secret love can be realised on a gray beach somewhere!

Radiant: Yes, well TGS was in my own country so no international flights involved. Hold Mittens in Japan next year! Then me and Vince can come!

Nik: Aww, thanks ^_^ Yes, it's muuuuch better.

Who went to TGS this year?

Anyone?

On the very secret and exclusive press days?

Hmm?

Hmm. Only ME, then.

I went with pet monkey, Patrick Alexander (some of you may know him as the creator of Raymondo Person and Chu-chi, others may remember the time he insulted their grandmothers and broke beer bottles over their cats' heads), who was there on official MYSTERY PROJECT business (it's extremely interesting, and you'll all have to wait another week before you know what I'm talking about).

We sat in the very exclusive Namco Bandai booth which was cordoned off because we were special and everyone else might have infected us with their Normal. I got to see some interesting trailers for some games I cared about, and others that I wouldn't piss on had they suddenly been engulfed in flames. I met a VERY nice man who worked there and he told me secrets.

Mysterious secret secrets about the industry.

We checked out some of the other company booths but mostly they were crap. I did play the Ninja Gaiden DS demo and received an EXCLUSIVE UNIQUE poster for my trouble.

However, for the most part, it was tedious commercial crap that you will hear about a thousand times from the hundreds of biased game news media that spent their time frantically covering it. We spent our time checking out the student games for the most part, and that was really interesting. I wish I could show you guys some of the games... well, perhaps I can later as we got CDs containing many of them. Anyway, this is for the future. Calm down. Go have a beer. Relax.

For now, here are some photos.

There, wasn't that fun?

Emily Enough is being featured on TIGSource - neato! Well done.

How many other AGS games have been reviewed there? I remember Linus Bruckman but I don't personally know of many others apart from that.

Still.

Wouldn't that be fantastic?

Since I've been starting too many threads lately, let me combine two things into one amazing thread!

Firstly, everyone should play this game - The Desolate Room: http://tigsource.com/articles/2007/08/24/the-desolate-room

Secondly, this looks amazing: http://www.insanelytwistedshadowplanet.com/

Uh... don't you think? I think so! Do you think so too? I think so.

(I uh, I know many of you read TIGSource, but for those who don't, these are two things I want to share)

General Discussion / Re: Fires in Greece!

I'm glad to hear you and your family are safe, Nik.

I come from a place where bush fires are just about more common than storms (which are really, really common) so I barely blink an eye at news of fire anymore. The thing is these things can spread -so- quickly, houses can be taken down before people have really prepared to leave and there goes your death toll. People -basically- know how to deal with this sort of thing in Australia so I can imagine that in Greece where it's much less common, that fact is also pushing the death toll up.

I don't think windmills necessarilly need to be -everywhere-. Each place needs to have an energy source that's appropriate for that area.

For Greece, off the top of my head what comes to mind is solar or hydro power.

It's ridiculous, isn't it? It's practically free energy. Like you said, it wouldn't be enough for ALL our electricty, but it'd -help- and it'd be clean energy.

Not to trash anyone's ideas or jump to anyone's defense here, but my opinion on this is that the fact that there are only a few cars and a few people and a few residenial homes are what adds to the charm.

It's cute. It's funny. I mean, who -really- wants this to be super realistic? Where do we draw the line? I for one don't know jack about building practises and so the amount this guy knows comes across as really expert to me. It's about as much as I, as a little lamen, can handle. Anymore realistic building practise would probably bore me to tears.

Conversely, if it were anymore wacky and insane, it would seem pointless. "Well", you may think to yourself, "a town is dull. Why not a space port for flying whales in the sky?".

My opinion is that there are just enough rules to make it interesting and challenging while still being fun.

Simplicity. This is what pixel art is about. The charm of Isotown for me are simple things achieved with little effect. It shouldn't be too fast-paced nor too grindingly realistic. It should set itself some boundaries but feel free to break them when it (uh, he) wants. It's a comic, ultimately. It's there to be entertaining, but that entertainment is, most of the time, based on it's unique and simple concept.

Radiowaves - that's gorgeous.

P.S. Lego is fucking awesome. Simple coloured brick original Lego.

Beauty in simplicity and restriction coupled with flexibility and charm. The mechanics behind this have a lot in common with what so many of us strive for when making games, surely.

Cool, nice to meet you! You're lucky because I liked the concept very much AND I found it interesting.

I really like that you keep it simple for the most part and have a bit of a splash out every now and again. I think it matches the medium. Pixel art for me is most enjoyable when people can achieve an effect with very little. As a good example, one tiny blue pixel and I'm all of a sudden fascinated with a blue jay.

I also really like how up front you are about everything in the project in the actual text. You're not wanky or mysterious about it. There's a really nice mix of making the "story" work, plus, "Hey, I'm an actual person creating this and these are my thoughts".

Anyway, I admire it quite a bit. Good luck with it ^_^
