That's wierd. The only thing I can think of is that when you make the backgrounds they are too small. When you make the backgrounds, you have to make sure that they are the same size as the resolution you've set for the game (i.e. 320 x 200, or 640 x 480). You can make them bigger if you want it to scroll. On paint just press ctrl-e to open the attributes menu and u can change the size there. I think. I dont really use paint. That work?

Yeah, BASS is my fav. I prefer the simplicity of it in interacting with objects and characters. That game was cool. I wish I could get the game to work now, though. I blame Windows XP. And socieity.

Aww, emotional threads. Its really easy to piss people off on the internet. Harder to detect the tone of a statement when its in text.

Its funny you should mention that dip around 18 coz when I turned 18, I basically gave up AGS for ages. Music distracted me. Back now, though.

Well, nothing's original these days (very little anyway). The same formulas are always used. Maybe its because the audience are familar with the originals and lending traits from movies/tv/books/whatever to a game enables the audience to relate to it more instantly. Thats why spoofs and parodies are popular.

I think one level of the unoriginality comes from unconscious boundaries we have in our minds. For example, when ppl thought the world was flat - they couldnt comprehend that the world was round. You don't notice the shape of the world slope into a circle when you walk along - you look on and everything seems the same level - you can see the horizon. You are brought up to the believe that and its hard to shake it. Maybe coz people are brought up with stories and ideas from media like films and tv, its a little bit more difficult to think outside of these boundaries as well. So we just repeat them.

But what do I know. That could just be a load of sh!t what I just said.

Damn, thats a lot easier than what I was doing. Cheers, AJA. Thats very useful. Progress continues.

And CJ, that context-sensitive help is really helpful  ;D

Ah great. Thanks. I'll just check it in a sec....

Yeah, I really hate to ask for help at this stage coz I've worked out so much stuff myself but this one's killing me...

Basically, when the cursor is over a hotspot - it changes its appearance to a highlighted sprite. If its not on a hotspot, it changes its appearance to an unhighlighted sprite thats just plain. I've got all that working in the repeatedly execute part of the global script.

The thing is I don't know how to do this for when the cursor is over characters and objects. Is there a function to test whether the mouse is over objects and characters?

Yeah, those games look pretty cool. M awaits.

I liked LeChuck better in the first two games. The humour in 1 and 2 was a lot more kind of adult orientated, then you get to CMI and, to me, it just seems to be aimed at more of a younger audience. Plus the graphix really do remind me of disney.

But don't kill me if I'm wrong.

Whenever I remember my dreams they're pretty dodgy. How do you end up remembering them anyway - wake up in the middle of one?

When are the next awards any way?

Heh heh.

With Kinky Island and FoY I took the dumbass approach of just writing down ideas and letting them form as development grew.

Yeah, I sorta do that. I write down the stuff I want to do and give myself the main outline of a situation, but I don't go into huge specifics like dialogs and the exact lay out of rooms and stuff, I like to give myself some creative freedom for when I get to that stage - so I can express myself dependant on the mood I'm in rather than copying exactly from a sheet of paper or whatever.

That said, for the game I'm doing now I've planned out the whole story but I keep getting new ideas in the middle of making it so it just keeps getting slightly longer or takes a twist making me rethink the stuff I've planned for later.

Hmm, yes, so if I want to find out whioch is the best movie of all time, you suggest I should take years out of my life to watch them all?  ???

Thats a thought. There's probably a game out there that a certain audience would really like but coz it hasnt got the hype and recommendation that games like P:DA and Kings Quest have from the majority, they'll never find out about it. It might have been a  favourite game to someone.

It was like a 10 year old kid's dream of being a policeman (having a friend who makes cool gadgets for you and all that, as opposed to the "adult" universe of say Rise of the Dragon.)
Hmm, never thought of it like that. If that was intentional, then Chrille is more of a genius than I initially thought. It was chrille who made it right?

Yeah, Pleurghburg: Dark Ages is the best in my opinion. I imagine there's a lot of coding behind it. It had a unique vibe to it that I really liked. The graphics were functional, rather than artsy, but the point was the story and the playability. It had its faults, though, that are mentioned. At least it 'feels' complete and professional. Anyway, if you didnt like the graphix of Pleurghburg, check out the graphics for the new Pleurghburg. That game's surely can kill everything else.

Cybercity Oedo 808's my fav. A lot of swearing, though. A lot.

Sounds good. Well delivered. What vampire movie is this anyway?
