Myself in the middle of backwards intercourse (unwell but not half okay.) after half-way through a northern leap(10)

This might be impossible to solve so I will give a hint right from the start:

Spoiler
It's AGS related

I might have had it, if it was 9 letters instead of 8:

Spoiler
TimeStone (Times from the X mark, stone from diamond("girl's best friend"), and one word is covering the other at the "s") Damnit, all good except that extra letter, and it being two words :( )

TimeRing then?(Same reasoning but with the "r" covering the "s")

Geez, what the heck am I talking about???

One more:

Onyx Ring? (To cover X you put something "On X"="Onyx" and she wants a "ring"?:P

Wow! Nice atmosphere in that pic! Kinda reminds me of an "Alone In The Dark" game for some reason...

Hope you solve your single-digit problem soon so we can see even more! ;)

I'm doomed if anyone ever decides to make this into an adventure game...I'll be constantly looking for the cheats/walkthrough....(roll)

Frighteningly so, but....My first ever concept for an AGS game was pretty much based on these kind of cryptic word puzzles...I may still make it as it remains a story close to my heart...

The popularity of this thread kind of encourages me to give it another go actually...

Don't know if I can make it this month.

I'm not scared to go back to prison.

No apology necessary, my good Mandle.  Your initial conclusion was the correct one: clearly everyone else has been spelling "puss" wrong all these years! ;)

Hahaha....I had a feeling there would be a Baronly overruling on the whole spelling thing...:-D

OMG Baron you weasel! :-D

Weasel-ness confirmed! ;-D  AnasAbdin has indeed unravelled my diabolical puzzle.  Although part marks have to go to Mandle for discerning that there was some liquor involved.  :=  Good guessing, team!

Solution:
Spoiler
(old liquid sugar (3) + endless infection (3)) + margin (4)

old liquid sugar = "rum" (as in it is derived from fermented and distilled sugar)
endless infection = "pus" (as in icky "puss" that festers in an infected wound, minus the last letter)
margin = "room", as in space (or room) to jot notes, etc.
[close]

Sorry if this one was a bit too complex.  I'll tone it down a bit next time.  (nod)

Spoiler
(laugh) Damn, and I might have had it too if I'd realized that I've been spelling "pus" wrong all these years...Oh, and that everyone else had been spelling it wrong as well :P (laugh)

I literally discounted "pus" 3-4 times as it was the most obvious symptom of infection, but only has three letters so didn't fit.

Mind you, the idea of an icky "puss" (a cat I mean...not the worse meaning) festering in a wound does bring to mind some rather grotesque images I might be able to apply in my Lovecraft game...hmmmmmmmmm :-X

(I hope no offence is taken Baron. That is not my intention, but sometimes a "kidding around" tone can be mistaken for something else in text. Everyone has their own pet spelling mistakes, and it can be quite a surprise when you find out you've been spelling something wrong for years. It's happened to me quite a few times myself. Luckily yours was not a word you would write often. Most of mine were/are...(laugh))

Nope. But your last letter is only one off! ;)

So....erm....

Spoiler
Balm or Balk? I can't see how either could be related to Margin though? Is the second word "Side"? And is the first word "_ _ _ sic"? Does "old liquid sugar" have anything to do with alcohol?

"Physic Side"? (Fizz for what old liquid sugar does when it becomes alcohol...Sic from "Sick" minus the end? I'm really grasping here...

Hahaha! Charming story idea there! Everyone loves the underdog. especially underdog by choice...Good luck with this one! I wanna play it!

As for the utilities:

Spoiler
Why not do away with the "Utilities" icon altogether if you are going to make the pouch an inventory item? Just have the Utilities menu window open when the inventory item is Looked at and/or Used on player character?

Just my personal preference of how these kind of things are often handled...

Spoiler

_ _ _ ger edge

I thought "germ" for "infection" minus the "m" because it's "endless", and edge for "margin"

Very nice game so far! Love the graphics and puzzles are cool. Just finished the Alpha test up to the end, it took me about 1 hour or so.

Had a little trouble with the:

Spoiler
Utilities option. I thought not having the pouch the captain gives you was a game bug at first as it does not appear in inventory. Maybe the game should tell the player to push the "Utilities" button to access the pouch-kit options after they receive it from the captain just to make this interface a little clearer?

I see you are going to find a proofreader to correct the English so I won't mention those issues but:

Spoiler
Sometimes there are HUGE blocks of text to read, especially right at the game start. This looks a bit unpleasing to the eye and also intimidating to read. Perhaps you should break these up into smaller blocks that appear in order as the player clicks (3-4 Display commands instead of one)? I also find it good to put a Wait(5); between concurrent Display commands as well to prevent that accidental double-click that causes the player to miss some vital info by quitting a Display text too fast.
[close]

Apart from those small issues I found no bugs that prevented me from finishing the game. Very enjoyable and thanks for the sneak-peek!

Hehe, very clever puzzle too...was completely on the wrong track when it suddenly just hit me :-D

As for Margin for old liquid sugar and endless infection:

Spoiler
I think the second word is "Emic" and I'm guessing "margin" means use the first and last letters and "liquid sugar" is "syrup" or "sucrose"...but now I'm lost....any hints? (laugh)

Voted. I also put a time macchine in one of my games (in Donald Dowell) so I used that one to vote ^^

Did you remember your history enough to click the BC/AD switch just right? Otherwise you might be voting for the outcome of a Pelota match instead...

Template

A "Fill-in" is a "temp" and a "dish" is also a "plate", then with only one "p" it becomes "template"
