Thinking about it, it's not that Primordia (this is a example) shouldn't be Best AGS Game of The Year, but we should have Best Non-Commercial Game of The Year as well. This put does it make more sense?

I like that idea...Having both a commercial and non-commercial game of the year, but leaving the other categories as a free-for-all.

Perhaps, some historical perspectives on how many awards in the past have gone to commercial vs. free games would give us enough context to decide to split all categories. For instance, if 90% of the awards go to a commercial game, then that might point out that there should be separate awards for both on all categories.

Seems a bit much to have to vote for best commercial and free game categories. I understand wanting to award free work over a commercially motivated work, but when I vote I always weigh how much I actually paid for a game.

So if a free game has graphics that are great and a commercial game has graphics that are great, I'd naturally be inclined to give it to the free game.

We should put some warning when submitting games in December that AGS awards are coming up and that a games likely-hood of getting awards is diminished.

To be fair, though, December is a perfect time to release your game...almost everyone is on break, but you might not hit a critical mass to get the votes necessary to win an award.

QuoteMy only plan so far is go to America (as its 10 years since Mittens NY) and ride some awesome rides at some point, thus completing a 30 year desire. Just wish it could've been the back to the future ride ;)

You missed Miami mittens then, but wow, time has flown since NY. In that case, I intend to go to another mittens, especially if it's as close as America. Maybe it'll even be in Austin, TX...that would be convenient. See what you can do.

I've decided I should participate more in the AGS community. For too long I've been neglecting you guys and my creative outlet. Now I come back with life lessons and hopefully a bit more sticktoitiveness.

Why have I ignored you? It boils down to change. You see I don't like it. All of you new guys kept coming in and there were too many faces and same conversations, and I began to feel disconnected. I began to feel that the effort needed to reconnect was far too large. But it's not just you new guys, its the old friends, too. They slowly started disappearing from the community and I slowly began to post less and less.

At the time I stopped frequenting this site, I thought it had to do with my age. I was maturing. Which is all true. I'm older now. I come with a different perspective and maybe less passion than my younger self. But when I boil it down, it's simply that the outside world became very attractive to me. I went to college, then to work, got my first car, lived by myself for the first time, almost got married, moved to a new city, found a great job, found new great friends, etc...

So what brought me back? Partly nostalgia. I still love adventure games and play them from time to time, but I truly remember that the time I spent here was full of passion. I want that passion back. I really enjoyed being creative with a group of people.

So what am I working on now? Really just myself. All last year I focused on polishing my professional development and getting back into pleasure reading (I am the destroyer of books again!). This year I want to spend some amount of time focusing on my creative hobbies. Music, Humorous dialog, voice acting, making adventure games, etc...

This community had served me well before, and I hope it will again. Feel free to reach out to me if you need any help on anything, and I'll make my damnedest effort to reengage with all of you.

That is all.

I don't think anyone truly answered this question, so allow me. The answer is 147. 147 people browse the forums on their phone.

I myself, part of the 7000+ members who refuse to do so. Beyond the obvious, which is that I barely browse the forums with my pc, I'm also against allowing my OCD forum behaviors to rule my life. You see, if I started accessing the browser through my phone, I'd have to keep checking and checking to see if someone replied to my previous post. This would distract me from other things, such as work or showers. Plus, I'm near an actual computer most of my life, so a keyboard is almost always a more attractive option.

So...I totally am not going this year, despite past years promises to make any Mittens in America.

I got a new job, can afford to go, but I don't have the vacation time built up yet.

Oh well. If any of you have a layover in Austin, let me know.

Just attended the first interactive session with some of the people involved. They're going to try and do one every day. The guy, Chris Pope, was very responsive to questions asked.

If they accomplish their KickStarter goal, I will be beyond happiness.

I may possibly add myself to this list, but we're looking to move out of Florida in the next couple of months, and so I wasn't sure how available I or my money would be. I'll have to find out after I get new a job.

I do want to attend, though. Partially, because it's been too long since I've seen some of yous, but also because any other year I would jump at the chance to go to a Mittens in the U.S.

Wish I could go this year, guys. Can't wait to see the pictures!

Why nor re-remake the remake of SQ1? I don't understand out of sequence remakes.

SQ3 is my favorite game of the series, too. It's strange though, because it's really the one with the least coherent plot. The major plot doesn't even reveal itself until the Monolith Burger, which is generally when the game is halfway over already. (Not necessarily, but I always go to Phleebut first, since it comes up first). Even when the plot is revealed, ultimately, it's kind of lame. The first two seem much more epic, as does four and five. Six was a different type of game altogether.

Objectively, SQ4 should be my favorite. It's got the most intriguing plot. It was the first one I played by myself (I used to watch as my dad played the previous games). But three is simply fun.

Who wants to learn a whole new engine, when their old engine is already worn in?

I remember being miffed when CJ went from our DOS version to a windows version. I moved on, of course, and fiddle with the new versions as they have come out. If someone likes 2.72, though, I have no problem with them using it. I think the new version is better, but if you were already able to create what you wanted in 2.72, why learn something new?

Is it sad that I didn't instinctively know where the reply button was on these new fangled forums?

The community has changed, which is probably because we've all changed. Many of us from ezboards still float around occasionally to see what's up, but we're all consumed by other hobbies or simply life.

Mittens seems to be an event where some of us older members meet the newer members, and there's a closer feeling of the old community. The newer members are obnoxious and immature, which means they fit right in.

Ryan hit the nail on the head. I was building on top of the spawn location. I simply diverted my skyway. Thanks!

I'm coming across a glitch, and wondered if anyone else has experienced this.

When placing a block in a specific region the block is placed as normal. In about 2-3 seconds, though, it disappears. As far as I can tell it's completely gone from the game world. It's not added back to my inventory, and there are no blocks to pick up.

I've also noticed there's a sandy area near the spawning point, that doesn't allow you to grab sand.

Obviously the game is still buggy, which is why it's an alpha release, but I'm hoping someone at least has come across this before (even if they don't know a solution).

General Discussion / Re: Who gets the money?

Rick J, I agree with you, which is why I said I would have tried to return the money to the Shoe Company. However, the premise of the question was that option 4 wasn't really an option and the mistake was never going to be caught, so I assumed our two characters were morally ambiguous in there decision making.

I don't, however, agree that Mr. B's credit card isn't any business of Mr. A's when we're talking about Mr. A's transaction. What if the opposite happened and the shoe company charge more than the $100? Any discrepancy with the bill should get the attention of Mr. A.

The split is done because Mr. B revealed the mistake to Mr. A. Since they both were responsible for the situation occurring and desire to continue a friendship, they split it down the middle. If the Shoe Company comes calling later both parties pay. We know Mr. A is responsible enough to pay back previously, so we can assume he won't run out on the bill next time.

Difficult question. I will set the scene as I see it.

I think since Mr. A is using Mr. B's credit card, we can assume a pretty strong friendly relationship. I'm also assuming they're friends because they happen to be shoe shopping together. They even may be having a casual affair. Regardless of how intimate their relationship, though, it's apparent one exists.

So then Mr. B gets his credit statement, and notices that the Shoe Company refunded the 100 dollars. Since I'm assuming a friendly relationship, a call would ensue between Mr. A and Mr. B, where Mr. B, would be like "Hey, did you return those shoes you bought?". Mr A, "No...I'm wearing them now."

It's most reasonable to assume that Mr. B would tell him about the $100. Mostly, because everyone likes to tell and hear a story of how we somehow got free money or some awesome discount.

This is where I would try to return the money to the shoe company. We're assuming though, that both parties are OK with not paying the company. I think it would then be most reasonable to split it in half, since they're friends/lovers.
