What the others said...

I think the noise and dithering are working against the readability of the scene, esp. since this is low-res. The table almost disappears. A quick example how clearer light/shadow definitions and more simple structuring can help:

If it looks too simple, you can aim for some sort of middle ground.

But for a first BG this is very good!

Thanks, Andail and markbilly :) Still unsure whether putting the night sky on the daylit scene was a worthy gimmick, but at least it increases the "wonder element".

--MY VOTES:

Idea: cat. An interesting place to visit, quite bizarre.
Atmosphere: TheJBurger. Good, cold color scheme. It's peaceful, yet dramatic.
Design: TheJBurger. Nice mountain shapes and a good looking ship. This is Antarctica, right?
Composition: TheJBurger. Nice and classic. Perfect establishing shot.
Functionality: Mr. Buckéthead. Very readable BG. I like this one, and it has quite a nice balance of tones. I think the color reduction treated it a bit hard though.
Technique: TheJBurger. I'd like to see the full color version of this one. The reduction artifacts are hurtful, especially in the sky. Still, you can tell the palette is carefully chosen, so it's really not too bad. I just believe the full color one is stunning:) Great BG again JBurger!

OK. I'll use Google next time. Now back on topic!

There's a point when "help" goes a bit overboard is all I was saying.

Sorry, don't agree. If Zaidyer doen't want to pick up on it, someone else might. I find the input to this thread very valuable.

Yeah, the style seems good and clean. Not very original though, nothing that stands out. You might want to think of ways to make it grab attention. But it's really the content that matters. I'd love to read it, but it's german and super-tiny so a bit hard. The funniest comics I've seen around here was far from this nice looking but funny nontheless (Cunnnt and the one Rolf made about the shoes  :=)

Can't wait to play 2010: World of Chaos and A Nigga's Revenge on the big HD screen. Am buying a PS3 tomorrow, that's for sure.

Might have overlooked it, but nobody seem to have mentioned it, so:

Alright, time to sum this one up. Thanks for all the entries, four is not so bad for the animation competition. I hope it can be even more next time!

@neelhound: A very creative "storyline", you certainly show some promise in this area. Technically, I wish you'll try vary your style a bit more, try drawing new frames etc as opposed to cut+paste+move. Still a good effort!
@Mr_Frisby: Another somewhat surreal piece from you, I'm a fan of those! I had a laugh at this ultra-tragic version. Like the breathing at the beginning! Still wish there'd be some more though.
@gASK: Very short, but what you did is nice and smooth. A good grasp of the technique, only the timing could use some polish. Still, extremely well for a first try!
@Twirlly: I'm very glad someone actually tried making him dance limbo under that low bar... and even succeed. I'm very impressed at how he's not falling there, must have some really heavy shoes/steel socks or whatever. I also like when he starts jumping, and even cheats the perspective at the end, in order to succeed. Good job!

Hard to pick a winner, but for a solid job (and staying right on the topic...) I go with Twirlly! I haven't made trophies, cos I'm too lazy. Hounorable mentions to the other entrants!

Idea: Sparky. Gotta love it.
Atmosphere: Tough one, but I'm going with TheJBurger. It's as if you can tell the exact temperature.
Design: Close between zyndikate and Ildu. Ildu gets the edge for the cityscape with all the fascinating wires.
Composition: Seems like a hard task to compose a neighbourhood interestingly. Ildu does the job best IMO.
Functionality: Zyndikate. One could argue against small details, but getting this one working should be easy. And the scaling is good for AG's.
Technique: Zyndikate. Close with Ildu, both have interesting things going on. Z's coloring could have been a little more finished, Ildu's a little less green. It's cool, but post Matrix there's been a tad to much green-tinting going on to my taste. Apart from the color, I like it!

What about messing with the settings under View/Toolbars/Customize...?

This is Todd Thompson, a man who considers himself one of the best limbo dancers in the world. Today he's attempting a new record for people his size. It's up to you whether he succeeds or not! Good luck.

Oh, by the way, had anyone else thought of making a game of this BR concept after watching the movie? :P

Countless games are already pretty close to that concept... In fact BR depicts a generation influenced by that, among the references to career pressure and obviously the media. So creating a game out of that is sortof missing the point. Almost like being inspired to create a TV-show like that.

I thought the movie was good, technically brilliant at times and with a good clear premise. But in Japanese cinema I prefer the old masters; Ozu, Mizoguchi, Kobayashi, Naruse, Teshigahara, Shindo, Kurosawa. Films like Kwaidan, Onibaba or Ugetsu Monogatari deals with terror in a lot more subtle, creepy and ultimately haunting way. To me.

Thanks!

I love the "nose juggling", BaRoN!

New comp soon.

The style reminds me of Donald Duck comics, but here - as in other BG's you've made - the furniture seems a bit tossed together, walls/doors seems rushed, and perspectives doesn't match. Also, the character could have been more in the same style - he seems a bit stiff for this world.

Are you using any kind of free comic resources? Or are you tracing comics?

Nice one!

The message might have gotten a bit lost on me, but I feel it's about being bored, and thinking about getting out as he sings  8)
I'm very fond of sephia tones, and they suit the sunfilled images well. Kudos to the cameraman, while a bit shaky and "off" at times, it's mostly very dynamic; nice movements and structures. The video succeeds at bringing a certain mood through, which goes very well with the song.

His pose is not so good, he should fall backwards like this. If you move his right leg, it'd help. Also, the way the feet is pointing outward is not very natural (unless you're Chaplin, maybe). Still, it's an interesting character. But why is he pointing at his missing organs?

EDIT: Sorry, just read he'll get some clothes.

I can trust files from AGS, but I'm just saying I can't download RAR files.

So, the antivirus-program will not let you? Turn it off for a moment.
