I made it to 90%. and no other characters speak about the gel. It's a real shame this little bug preventing me for getting to the end. It's a very enjoyable experience as with all games from GOC.

Really loving the game but I can't find oil or something to mix with the coal dust to dye Rogers hair

Hi everyone!!
I simply wanted to share with someone or people who cares and understand that today I finished playing Lost in Play and that means I have played a total of 3100 adventure games and related ones.
I have collected over the years 3879 games including adventure games of all genres and styles and hopas(hidden objects adventure games). Not easy for someone living in Cuba where there's not a place to buy stuff like that and internet is pretty bad still. AGS games are a huge part of that collection of course.
And that's it.
Do you have a list of your games too, or I'm paranoid?

Thanks for your kind words Lapsking. Since you mentioned my last game let me do a bit of promoting. My games are Robotragedy1 and 2, Dr Lutz and the time travel machine, Maverick Gunn and the Eye of Oggún, The manuscrito of Sarmanyanha, Postcard Adventure and the very little Outlaws Gold. I developed a Hidden object game too but only un spanish. Unfortunately I still have a few started projects that Will never see the light because right now I can't spend those many hours painting and My limited skills are spent. Maybe in 40 years, when I'll be in My nineties I'll be able to pay some good artists to finish them... jajajaja!!!

More than happy to be of help. And the real thanks should go to the guy who created the xalarcost template. I simply adapted from it. Most of my work on my games is trial and error and reading the manual and try to understand what to me was gibberish and still most is. I'm a 51 cuban guy with unending passion for adventures games but illiteracy on coding. I wanted to add effects with Inbetween module but I don't even know where to start.

Now I remember, you need to edit hotspots and add the hx schema. I can't check now because i'm not at Home and I'm using the phone. Later I will check. Sorry

Hi:
Lapsking, I suck too at coding. Like Crimson Wizard wrote, besides the code you should have in your game the game objects, in this case GUI, with the same name. When I took the original code from Xalarcost template I had to do the same. I created the template with AGS 3.6. but the compatibility I had to use it cos I didnt know what new code to use. Hope this is useful. Thanks for trying it.

Modules, Plugins & Tools / Sharing a Template
Fri 29/03/2024 06:01:42
Hi friends:
I want to share with you a template I created using as a base the two click template that comes with AGS, a few lines of code from the old Xalarcost template and a few tweaks of my own.
I've been posting here twice about better user friendly templates and I thought I should give some, before asking.
It has several GUI's, few basic examples of interactions, a dialog example with changing colours for the lines, a status line that follows the mouse, the option to press space and show the hotspots on screen, a help or how to play GUI, credits, and changes can be done easily on the scripts to change a few things.
Take a loot at it, and let me know what you think.
Hopefully it will help somebody.

I totally agree. Of course the people concentrated on developing the engine and editor are overly busy. Yes, I understand. Sorry for bringing that up again. I did it because having a new version coming I wished for more. Thanks for the reply, I really do. Keep the good work!!

Sorry I'm writing too mucho, just add that I don't mean to have on a template all the mechanics that a coder can use on his or her Game in terms of gameplay. I refer mostly to the visuals and mechanics of interfaces, GUIs, inventories, stuff like that.

Thats right. AGS has worked for me and I wouldnt trade it for another. It's just that one play many new games and see the real possibilities of the engine to create professional looking games, but you can't do it because You can't tap into that due to lacking code knowledge. And those details can be there easily and just concentrate on delivering a good story and the best graphics you can create. Something like that.

Editor Development / Suggestions for AGS 4.0
Mon 25/03/2024 01:29:39
Hi:
I'm not sure if this is the right place to write, if thats the case, I'm very sorry.
I'm happy that a new version of AGS is coming and I read about the new stuff and I believe is all great but beyond the better font renderer, I found that most of it won't be of much use to me and other users that have no big knowledge of coding. I understand the idea behind all the improvements but the editor that all wannabe amateur developers choose to make games at a time when the genre was almost dead, is becoming less dumb-user friendly. I think that it would be great if AGS comes with templates or something like that, incorporating all the nice things that the new changes provide. For example, the Inbetween module is used in games and you can see many nice effects on the GUIs, but for me, thats quantum physics and then, I can't use it on my games. I hope I make myself clear. I'm from Cuba and English is not my mother tongue. In total what I want to say is that all the good stuff added to AGS should be accessible to coders and no coders by having templates with examples that can be copied and studied to learn and improve. I know too that is a work of love. I respect that a lot.
Thanks for reading all My bla bla bla.

Thanks for the reply!!
I know about making a template. I just thought that it would be great to have something more complete and professional looking and working like the thimbellweed template. Just an idea. Thanks

Hi, I'm not sure if My sugestión gies here.
I have used AGS for many years now and for a no programmer I had issues but the help and demos helped me overcome many obstacles.
Now, implementing a game's interface is not easy if you don't know your way around coding but thankfully there are templates. I have used the BASS template for my last game's but always gad to add elementos.
My sugestión is to release AGS with templates that cover all bases starting with a logo room, a title room with a GUI, and allá the other GUIs. For example, the BASS template has no saving/restoring interface or an options panel GUI. And the thimbellweed template has everything. I hope I can explain myself. It would be great for new users to have a template option that allows to concentrate on creating the Game and assets and have a framework or system already implemented. Then, only changing graphics matching the game style you are done.
Thanks for the hard work improving AGS. You can check My last Game 2080 Wall City Lockdown.

Hi:
Absolutely agree with You. It should be developers who provide templates. I made the suggestions in this section of the forum because I thought it covered them. Thanks for answering and for the hard work. Cheers!!

Hi!!
It's my first time here so I'm hoping I'm doing it correctly.
I developed several games with AGS over the years starting with Robotragedy and ending so far with Maverick Gunn and the Eye of Oggún and always I had to struggle a lot with the coding of the games because I had no knowledge of the subject and I still don't know. I had to keep checking the help to achieve things and I'm sure if one of you guys see the coding of my games you will laugh your hearts out.
Thats the reason I'll like to suggest adding to AGS full templates taking advantage of plugins and modules and having sets of GUIs, text boxes with cool animations, proper title rooms with a fully configured GUI to start the game, adjust options, see créditos, all the nice things that make a game look profesional.
For example a template for making Hidden Objects Puzzle Adventures or casual Adventures that comes with all the little details like an intuitive hint system, option for creating players, etcetera and a developer who has little notions of coding but has a knack for art and ideas can create a game like those and instead of unity people can choose AGS as a viable option.
Or a template for first person games like the Carol Reed or Nancy Drew series.
My suggestions are that the templates come with more flesh and an aspiring developer can start a game with not just a room and few details but with a base more solid.
AGS should be more oriented to people who love to try to make a game of their own but know no coding.
I tried to animate a GUI with Tween module and had to give up because couldnt make no head or tail of what to do.
I hope you can understand what I mean. I'm cuban and English it's not my mother tongue.
Thanks for the hard work keeping AGS alive and kicking.

Hi:
My name's Pijin Pastrana and I've been developing games with ags for a while. Robotragedy 1 and 2, Dr. Lutz and the time travel machine, Maverick Gunn and the Eye of Oggun, The manuscript of Sarmanyanha and Postcard Adventure. I believe this game's years nominations are very good and fair but I have to say that I don't feel treated with fairness because the backgrounds of Postcard Adventure can compete with some of the games like ossarium or breakfast on trappist 1, and I don't mean any disrespect to the developers, they are great but year after year the games I released , no matter how hard  I tried to achieve the best looks possible, NEVER GOT even a nomination. I wonder if the reason I'm cuban and out of the mainstream is the reason .

I want to update that I was able to add the game to the games database and its downloadable from there. Sorry again

Hi

I made the announcement for the production of this game and its close release but it was erased because it didnt complied with the rules.
Im sorry for that but I live in Cuba and I only have access to the internet once every six days when Im working the midnight shift as Im doing now.
Im attaching the link of the game uploaded to google drive but I have no clue on how to add screenshots or adding the game to the database.
Before, when I developed the Robotragedy games I had the help pf people from the community.
Please, Ill be connected for a while and checking and if you write something of what to do Ill fix it. Sorry for this!!!

The game is a first person point and click adventure made using SweetHome 3d for the prerendered backgrounds. Its sort of a cinematic adventure at times with some puzzles and heavy use of items in the first part and then more lineal and easy. The reason is to keep with reality because it didnt make sense to have the same kind of game mechanics when the game expanded to other places. Youll undcerstand when you play the game. Its not that long as the other titles I released some years ago. time is not something I have on easy supply and it really surprised me that I was able to finish this game.
Hope you like it!!
