General Discussion / Re: Medical robot
Fri 27/03/2009 20:57:32

(Pics courtesy of City of Heroes).

Personally, I'd opt for a bed with an arm above, and a screen.  It's the future, why must robot's resemble humanoids at all? Chances are 99% of stuff would be robotic, so people wouldn't necessarily need an anthropomorph to be at ease, as they're likely to have sentient toasters.  Efficiency comes before familiarity.

Hm, almost similar to a 'hobby' I was tempted to start a few years ago.  Though, instead of amps, I was planning on making my own effects pedals/racks, and also build the effects directly into custom guitars, too.

I never got around to bothering in the end, as I quit my band and pretty much took a long break from guitar/bass entirely.  I'm playing a pretty lousy/damaged acoustic guitar at the moment, and I've re-found my enjoyment for it, so who knows I may venture into electric again soon.  Which means I may come to you for advice in the distant future.

not certain yet, but if at least 10 peaple raise they hands, i will.

I asked around, and I got 10 people to raise their hands.  They all agreed you should stop faffing about with a name and a logo for now, and actually make something to release first.

Those 10 then raised their other hands to agree with that plan, too.

Count me in, homeslice

Homeslice?!

I guess I've missed too many meets to understand this hip new lingo.

(Date-wise, anything's fine for me).

I don't think that anyone with that big an inferiority complex could ever insult me, Renal.

You obviously don't know me that well..

I had a relatively large stash of floppies, which I'd spend ages on the labels.  Half the time I'd spend longer on the labels than I would playing the games.

I was far worse with the wonderful world of VHS, though.  3 (sometimes 4) movies on the cassette, thanks to using long play not standard play.  I'd spend hours designing the labels, so that the fonts of the 3 movie titles would blend together nicely.

Then a week later, I'd have a new label to draw.

I'm a bus ride away! As I'm a northerner now.

I may not stay there specifically (dependent on space/time/stuffs), but I could likely be there most days via the afore-mentioned bus ride.

I'm also far more sober these days, too.  Whether that's a good thing, I'll let y'all decide.

Personally, I'm liking the 'Jack In The Pot' from the previous batch.  It's slightly sinister, but also vague enough to work for anything.  Hell the Jack could even be one of those cross things you bounce a ball and pick up.

I'm kind of with LGM on this one, what IS the point of this thread?  It's not necessarily a rude question, though you're free to interpret it how you want.

The 'site' seems like a rather poorly designed list of bugs, a half assed logo and a some picture of two random people, one of which I'm assuming is you.

The engine's yours? Great.  You should still be posting in the thread that's for recruiting people like artists.  Just because you're not using AGS to make it, doesn't mean you're suddenly better than everyone else and get to post fancy new threads when one already exists for such a purpose.

And seriously, bumping your own thread?  Most people often don't reply to threads they have no interest in, and replying to yourself just makes you look desperate and annoying.

Good luck with the project, and I hope you find people to help and such, but please read things like the forum rules before posting randomly, then getting all defensive.

I don't expect much of anything actually.  Sims 3 and Champions Online, game-wise.  No idea for music or film at all.

That said, I don't plan ahead for stuff at all.  Waking up in a morning's often a surprise, not always a pleasant one, but a surprise nonetheless.

It's both his arms, not just one.  I'd also suggest you shade the sections in various greys (nothing too dark), with right arm/leg as shade one (the lightest), head/torso as shade two (slightly darker) and the left arm/leg (furthest away) as shade three (the darkest).

That way you can see them move more fluidly, and it won't be as confusing when they reach key points.

I should add that the names mentioned in my previous post are all actual company names.

I know 10tacles is an existing company, and wasn't suggesting using it.  I merely meant that of *all* names mentioned (real/hypothetical) that one stood out the most to me.

Kudos.

I actually really like this pic, which is rare, especially considering the style you've opted for.  Though I'd suggest some sort of highlights/details for the (right side of the) forestry in the background.  Not a whole lot, just a few bits here and there to break up the large block of blackness.  (Maybe some beams of light coming thru the left).

Some coulds wouldn't go amiss either, possibly with a less pale blue for the sky.  It seems a little washed out at the moment, but I'd not suggest using too intense a blue, as that would throw the rest out.

I'm not so sure about the shading, either.  It looks to me that the right hand side should be darker than it actually is.  Maybe it would look better if the light source was a higher angle, I'm not too sure.

Personally, I'd suggest you avoid picking a name from what it is you're actually doing.

I'd suggest either:
1. a random, cool sounding word (Valve, Blizzard, ocean, etc).
2. two words that don't really belong together (thinking of that googlewhack game of 2 words and only 1 result).
3. Psuedowords/Nonce words. (Vonk/Unidexter / http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pseudoword http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nonce_terms)
4. Spoonerisms, dirtier the better.  (Cupid Stunt / http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spoonerism)

My favorite of the previous ones mentioned would likely be 10tacles, tho.

I've no idea when I started, though I've a copy of 2.22 somewhere, and I remember reading the ezboard forums.

I *still* have a hard time believing I'm older than CJ, though.

..You didn't miss much; Cindy Lauper, MC Hammer, big hair, the mullet, hot pink nylon windbreakers, He-Man, GI Joe and Captain N: The Game Master.

Dear God! That's a whole lot of awesome he missed right there in that sentence.

Cyndi Lauper alone made the 80's worth living in.  Hell, the popcorn solo in Girls Just Wanna Have Fun was worth the double what the 2000's have put out.

There's a high likelihood that remakes wouldn't be as good as the originals.

Plus, I've always seen remakes as lazy.  Most makers here have the creativity to actually make something new, not rip graphics and make a pseudo-port.

If you want to play it on a non-DOS machine, there's a few tools out there to do it, so it's often a waste of effort to remake some things.

But, feel free to remake Titus if you want.  I doubt anyone will stop you.
