You can work aroudn this by removing the walk-to point for that hotspot/object and manually coding some script to do what you want for the interaction.

Archangel seem to have the idea. So as you lot understand, here's a short example:

Player 1: Canary Wharf
Player 2: Tottenham Court Road
Player 1: ooh, that was bold
Player 3: tricky, but I think I'll go with Bermondsey
Player 1: What about the level blocking?
Player 3: but I was using the Jubilee extension separation clause
Player 4: On a Friday?
Player 3: After 9am, obviously.
Player 4: In that case, I'll double on to Greenwich
Player 1: I think that I can squeeze through to Paddington
Player 3: Not when we're using the post-Millenial rules.
Player 1: Oh, you're right
Player 2: So, I'll progress to Waterloo, then
Player 1: I wish I'd done that
Player 3: Then I'm forced to Euston Square
Player 4: Oh, I see. Well, I'm blocked so it will have to be Kings Cross
Player 1: But you didn't spot that with the District Line under "hold", I can jump straight to Mornington Crescent
Player 2: Noooo!
Player 3: He's right, you know
Player 4: I should have struck out to Kensington Olympia

Hit me with a kipper and call me stupid, but why can't you set these up at the beginning of your code that brings up the coin?

I probably haven't understood quite how your interafec works...

I once sat at the computer for about 20 hours straight but I didn't look like that. I had clothes on for a start (albeit smelly ones by then)

Good to see you back, Leone

Sorry Dmitri, you're still not quite there. One of the codes of practice for MC players is that you don't explain the rules, obviously.

And a turn is a turn is a turn... you can't just go around redefining the meaning of words. Of course, you could make a move like Earl's Court, which would mean that I would be force onto the Victoria line unless I was careful and made a valid reverse double, or moved into "spooning". After that it would be trivial to get to MC in three.

Obviously, if you could just go straight to Mornington Crescent on your first go, there would be no point now, would there?  ;)

Super Scottish Hero: Let's play a game. Shoobelido, jadada tideldom poopelipood.
Super Scottish Hero: It is. This is how you play it: Jar-jar clopedilturdelidur, frinkilti-tinketi-plink sob.

Obviously, you're just being silly. Playing "Jar-jar clopedilturdelidur, frinkilti-tinketi-plink sob" after "Shoobelido, jadada tideldom poopelipood" contravenes the reverse doubling rule.

Look, you know that game where eveyrbody sits ina circle on the floor, somebody puts some spoons in an wierd arrangement and says "That's number five" and then someone new tries and they can't get which number it is. Eventually everybody catches on as more people work it out.

Spoiler

The number represented by the spoons is actually the number of fingers you have on the ground, but it takes a while for people to notice
[close]

And the last person(s) to "get it" are always really really annoyed at everyone else and they say how silly it is and try and mock it and they're aching inside to know the trick and they get all embarassed when they finally work it out.

To quote the professors of "The Mary Whitehouse Experience":

Well, THAT'S YOU THAT IS.

You can listen to the game being played at:

For the respected creator of Veg Patch Extreem Turbo and RLBAT, can't you RTFM?  ;) ::) :P >:(

"DisplaySpeechBackground (CHARID, string message)

Similar to DisplaySpeech, except that this function returns immediately and the game continues while the character is talking. This allows you to have characters talking in the background while the player does other things. Note that the character's talking animation is not played if this function is used."

Just a word of warning, Peter Glare:

Americans don't get irony

For example: Jacques Chirac said to George Bush back in 2002 that he had a dodgy kebab the night before from an Iraqi resteraunt and it was: "like zey ver tryun to teh poyzun me, heh heh". Now not only did George Bush not pick up that Jacques was speaking with a German accent, nota French one, but also he didn't appreciate the irony and invaded Iraq, thinking they had weapons of mass destruction.

So, careful who you make your oh-so-witty-Antoine-de-Caunes-type jokes to. Oh, and my company won't let me look at your website because your host is banned.

Okay, I'll start a game of Mornington crescent starting in Mousehall

I play the Mornington Crescent card

This card automatically takes the user to mornington crescent. In any other logical game a card like this wouldn't be allowed, but since it has been stated that there are no rules then this isn't counted as cheating because all I'm doing is playing a card which will win the game.

I win

boy that was a fun game. Let's play again...

a) Cards? There's no cards in this game, chuck

b) There are rules: don't believe everything you read

c) Moving from Mousehall to Mornington Crescent is only allowed after 12 moves have been played, according to the Vertical Blocking section of the 1824 treaty of Tashkent

I once read a book as a teenager that said that if a guy stands with his thumbs tucked in his belt and his index fingers pointing to his rude bits, then women will flock to him and be unable to resist his charms.

It never worked for me  :(

Bob: there is no "railroad" (I assume you mean railway :P ) station called Mornington Crescent, it's fictional.

Eh? It's on the Northern Line between Euston and Camden Town: http://www.thetube.com/content/tubemap/images/tm_quad_2h.gif

It was shut for refurbishment for a while in the 90s, though.

Archangel is wrong. There are rules. And it's not like Calvinball, Fuzz, because the rules are well defined and do not change. There are many variations, but these are agreed in advance of the game.

TerranRich, you're just jealous that you don't understand... wisdom will come eventually.

The current trend in company naming is big business is to take two "good" words and join them together to make a meaningless name that should sound good. I wrote a little perl script to do this ages ago and I've just re-run it and here's some of its best ones. Feel free to use them (anyone, but please acknowledge source somewhere) and slap "Entertainment" or whatever after:

TechnolX
Splendation
Scigon
Innovid
Metatastic
Titanulous
Adventurement
Technulation
IdiX
Accupotent

EDIT: I added some adventure-related "seeds" and got:

Taleactive
Interacture
Plentius
Intellaction
Intellication
Artitive
Merittect
Dynamcom
Excellal
Luminal
Astoundity

NB I haven't googled for any of these!

The TV series sucked, but there was one good thing: the excerpts from "The Book". Both the graphics and the late Peter Jones' excellent voiceover were great.

It's essential that everyone involved in making the film "gets" the book. And I really hope that they only give Zaphod one head.

I always thought that the Dirk Gently books would be much more filmable.

If Mornington Crescent is played properly, each move should be accompanied by a long winded explanation of the "one or two word reply". e.g.

Parson's Green

Using mortimer?s 2nd amendment so that once Parsons Green has been declared forces play along the Great Western axis, obliging players to sacrifice Seven Sisters in order to prise open their opponent?s laterals.
