Welp, we got a cool HP photo printer for Christmas last year and are now trying to use it. Come to find out it only prints in red and yellow. It might actually be the ink cartridge, but anyway...

So after a bunch of screwing around that lead to nowhere, I tried to do a live chat at HP with a lovely woman named Abigail.

Sorry to make another thread, but this is unrelated to the last Win98 thread.

Alright. I've gone and done it. My older computer finally started telling me that I needed to reinstall Windows.

So after immense searching over the net, yesterday, I had found an ISO of Windows 98SE with the key included (don't know if it'll actually work, but I got it anyway). Downloaded it, burned it. Also had to do the same with the boot disk since my floppy drive is a fucking cunt.

Here goes my problems again (CDROM this time):
Note: Please keep in mind that I've never had problems with my CDROM drive before...

After the clusterfuck of having to UNCOMPRESS my harddrive before being able to format, which took all day, I was finally able to format.

Formatted.

So I start the computer with the boot disk. Run FDISK and make a new partition.

Partitioned.

Rebooted and formatted c:

Formatted.

Rebooted with the Windows98 CDROM and opened up the CDROM drive

CDROM DRIVE OPEN

I open the directory to make sure everything's there.

Everything's there. I locate SETUP.EXE and type it in...

I'm at a loss here. I've tried a million different things, even changing the jumper to Cable Select, which has worked for some people I guess.


I do not need any drivers since they all load automatically. My CDROM is a Toshiba and it doesn't require any additional drivers to run.

I don't understand how it can go from reading information on the CD to not being recognized. I mean, I can open up every directory and look around at all the files, but as soon as I try to setup, bah.

Here's something that you might find interesting:
One of the installation methods I tried in the beginning was copying the contents of the WIN98 directory into c:\CABS. It reads the disk and copies 4 or 5 CAB files and then I get that messege.

What's the issue. I've searched all last night and since 7:00 this morning. Please, what do I do here?

My old computer that I've got in the other room is running Windows 98 FE.

Last time I used it, it was fine, I was playing Super Mario Kart with SNES9X (which has been on there for years) and that was it.

There's nothing else on it that would have done anything and I didn't install anything new either. It's been working great, I haven't used it probably in a couple weeks and now all of a sudden it's "shit the bed". I've only been using it to write text documents for Leitor's Edge when the other computer is occupied. So naturally, I'm stumped as to why any of this has happened.

Here is what is happening:
*Windows loads with no errors.
*Screen resolution is 600x400 (which is I think the default safe-mode res)
*only 16 colors
*no mouse

When I boot in Safe-Mode everything I listed above is the same except I can use the mouse.

I have found that there is a problem with the mouse driver, but I'm sure I can fix this.

But I can't for the life of me figure out what has happened. I change the color settings and resolution in the SETTINGS thingy, but it always loads the same.

I have no idea where to start finding this problem. And what really sucks is that every time I try something it asks me for that fucking Windows 98 CD that I've NEVER had to begin with.

And if it's my video card, I don't even have that CD either. So what in the hell do I do?

I have no idea where to start. I'm hoping that somebody can at least point me in the right direction to diagnose this sudden issue.

I've noticed that some games have an option for either DirectDraw5 or Direct3D and some games do not have an option at all.

Since December, before first posting here, I've been searching for an answer and solution as to why DirectDraw is garbling graphics since my new video card was installed. I've searched and searched to NO AVAIL. I've even posted in two seperate forums, one being here, at home.

I was just wondering if it would be at all a bother to "force" that option for each game's setup file for jokers like me who can't find the solution? Otherwise AGS games or any other game that uses DirectDraw5 is unplayable (as you'll see).

Without having to sign subscriptions of course. Is there some sort of site that I can upload a song to and have it sent to my phone? I don't have the USB cable to do it myself.

I've been curious about this for a long time. I was just listening to Willy Beamish songs and clicked on the "Send this to your cell phone!!1!!11" link and I followed the steps. All of a sudden I'm getting charged $10.00 a month for 15 ringtones and the Willy Beamish songs are nowhere to be found. Heh. Lesson learned.

So, is there a way to do this without getting porked up the ass?

I'm a HUGE (HUGE) AC/DC fan. I've always been pissed that there were never any AC/DC songs for any Guitar Hero games.

Whilst in the wonderful work of Walmart, I saw the Rock Band track pack for AC/DC live. Now, on the box it says that it doesn't need the Rock Band game to play. Eh?

I've been googling today a bit and I hear that it WILL work and that it WON'T work. What's the deal? Does anyone actually know?

I've got a Wii and I've got Guitar Hero: World Tour.

Not a fan of World Tour, but, if I could play AC/DC live... shit, man, I'd be in heaven.

My wife and I missed last weeks show and I was wondering if somebody could look up when it was going to be on again? I'm afraid to look myself since I don't want to know who got kicked off before we see it for ourselves.

I've got an inkling that it'll be on a couple hours before the new episode this coming Sunday, but I'm scared I'm going to find out who lost before seeing it.

Hello once again, everyone,

I'm curious to know if there's a way to shake the screen on only half of the screen. I got looking at the manual since "SetViewport" was what first came to mind, and it seems it only works for scrolling rooms. I'm not even sure if I'm in the right direction.

I suppose I could do it with an object and either animate it or move it up and down rapidly. But I guess before I look into other options I'd like to know if using ShakeScreen within a specified X,Y would even work to begin with...

NOTES: The resolution is 800x600. I'm going to want to shake the screen on the upper and lower half of the screen (at different times, of course).

I'm fed up. I've googled and googled to no avail.

So when in doubt, despair, peril or agony, contact the AGS community.

I've got Media Player 11. I want to transfer some stuff to an older computer of mine that I plan on using for writing/brainstorming when I need it.

I've learned that in media player you can't drag and drop applications or folders into the burn list. So what I've been doing is changing the file extention to .png. This works perfectly.

But what I'm wondering is, why the hell can't I burn applications and folders like any other burning utility? I need to transfer folders with files in them. I shouldn't have to go through and make notes as to where all these different files go.

I've tried CDBurnerXP, but for some reason my other computer won't recognize the CD.

If any one's got any info on how to change this, thank you in advance,

Hello there,

I've got a clock that tells the player what time it is. I've read the manual, but I can't seem to find where to change it from 24-hour format to 12-hour format.

Does such a property exist, or do I have to do a bunch of if-else statements?

I'm currently making another GUI with two buttons. This is my second GUI.

When I double click the button to go to it's script, I get shipped over to the other GUI's button script where there's already code in it. Shouldn't it bring me to a brand new script?

I've tried renaming the button from button1 to it's own name, but I still get the same results.

What's going on?

Hello once again,

I've a GUI that switches on while holding down the right mouse button.

This works with no problem. Displaying an integer within it's label works fine as well.

But, I want to detect when the ouse is over particular objects and come on, but I'm not getting anywhere.

Here's the code:

I've finally been working on a game from scratch while using AGS 3... right from the beginning. It's rough here and there, but I've forced myself to not give in and I'm actually getting used to it. It's not quite so scary as I had thought, but yeah, it is a whole different world compared to AGS 2.72. Chris, for the love of God, please don't rewrite AGS again.

If I don't ask this question, I'm going to go completely fucking insane.

How do I use a module that I have downloaded? In AGS 2.72 all I had to do was open up the "Modules" tab in the toolbar and import a module from it's folder.

I've searched the manual, I've Googled and I've even waited like a month or so before asking this.

Please, how do I import the module? Mercy.

Sorry for posting again on the same day - hell, I hate posting at all.

But there's just GOT to be an easier way to check whether an object is colliding with ten others - other than writing them all out in one big-arse "if and OR" statement... like I've been sitting here doing for the past ten minutes.

I'm hoping there's something like this;

I also have to do this code for the ten other objects.

What I'm doing is seeing if any of the ten random objects are touching eachother. If they are, then push them over a bit.

The code I've got works, but it's just so damn tedious and time consuming, not to mention hideous. I'm not even through testing the first object and have 19 more to go (in all).

Any insight is much appreciated,

Hello all you AGS scripting savvy sons a...

I've looked through the manual but haven't been able to find this.

Am I able to use percents while randomizing? What I'm aiming for here is to give an object a 60/40 percent chance of executing a specific action once it's script is executed. Is this possible?

Please go slow and easy with me, I've never understood or been good with math.

So if not, what I would normally do in this situation would be to set 10 random actions and make six of them do one thing and 4 do another.

I don't mind doing it that way, but I'd prefer a faster, more efficient way.

So Rincewind and I have been working on Leitor's edge for, what seems, a decade. And few of you may know, this game is my baby.

It's been through the paper-shredder and rewritten at least twice. We've finally got something solid it seems, and I am quite happy with what we've come up with (I'm enjoying it VERY much) as a final concept.

It's been very hard lately to come up with new ideas and things to connect all these little questions together and make the story seemless without the help of my partner. He is EXTREMELY busy so I've been working on the story almost entirely on my own. He's got the gusto, just no time. Me, I'm a stay-at-home dad, so I've got lots of time on my hands.

I have no problem with the beginning and the end of the story and I've got numorous "ideas" for stuff that happens throughout the course of the game. The biggest problem is filling in the gaps and all the little details.
I've told myself that I want the whole game to be down on  paper before I do anything in AGS. I'm not going to go through that again.

So, during the brainstorming process I usually just grab my notebook and start jotting down ideas whether or not I actually like them or not. MOST of the time this doesn't lead to anything since I draw a blank and I end up giving up - leaving only one or two things written down. I think this is because I have so many things floating around my head, I don't know where to begin. Sometimes I make brainstorming harder than it's supposed to be, since I think into an idea too hard - wanting details right away, therefore, not writing down the next idea since it is somehow connected to the first.

What I've recently discovered works really well for me.
I thought to myself, how about I have a character from the story answer these questions for me? So I grabbed my pen and the blank page in my notebook that I had been staring at for the last half an hour, and simply just STARTED WRITING.

I wrote an entire 5 and a half pages of what, turned out to be, an interview. Any topic about the story that I've been having trouble with, I wrote down in question form and had the character answer. I was so suprised at how much brainstorming this way had helped me. I had answers that I liked and even some new stuff that can undoubtedly be used.

Now, what are some things you do?

Are there any tutorials or printable templates that can organize your thoughts and parts of your story? I suppose I'm thinking something like that old room template someone made years ago. It was a sheet of paper that organized all the objects, characters, variables and actions that took place in that one room, along side of a box to draw the BG in.

I played Willy Beamish last night for the first time in a year or so, for probably the one millionth time, and there's always something about that "Slice of Life" scene that always makes me go, "Eh?":



When you examine the table where Spider is sitting (for those of you that may have not played, Spider is the guy who is back-to with the grey vest and jeans) the description says, "Spider and his parole officer are enjoying the fine cuisine offered here at Slice of Life".

Now, I still may have not got the joke after all these years, but that is no parole officer.

I was wondering if any of you have any insight on this conundrum? It has been one of those things I think about every single time I get to this scene. I mean, to me, it looks as if they are holding hands. Also, when Spider gets up to turn Willy into creamed corn, she smiles and just watches.

Could it just be pure laziness not to switch the woman character into a "parole officer type character" or change the text to "girlfriend"?

Or could it be that Spider is just a super-slick womans man at 13/14?

Is there anything in the internet world that I can download or something that will allow me to play games, particularly AGS games of course, in 320x200?

You guys that have high-end cards or whatever, how do you play AGS games? I hate having to switch to 640x480 and watch the text shrink down to nothing.

There's also, not too sure on how to explain it, but these lines that garble up the screen when playing certain games. All AGS games do this. The splash screen for AGS even does it.

Is there anything out there that can solve these problems?

What I've done already is tried looking for drivers and such on the NVIDIA site but can't find anything.

I'm at a total loss and would be mucho appreciated for any help that comes my way. I can't fucking stand not being able to play or create AGS games anymore (let alone see them without zipping lines all over the screen), especially in 320x200. My whole computer world has come crashing down around me ;)
