I bet they were using it as a metaphor where satan represented the people that kicked them out and God represented the youth group themselves. Although I don't know of anywhere where they'd use metaphors that are THAT radical.

seeing as to how this forum is extremely active, and the members often have differentiating religious opinions, I would like to discuss my favorite book of the New Testament: Revelation
Or rather, the visions John saw within it.
What interests me most is the four horsemen (the first four scrolls), a conquerer, a troublemaker, a plague-bringer, and a death-summoner.
Genises says that the Earth was created in 6 days, and God rested on the 7th. However, it's scientifically proven that the Earth took millions of years to create.
So, if millions of years is simply 6 days for God, then when John says that his visions happen over a period of 7 years, who's to say that he doesn't mean that it's a chain of events that were set into place since the Earth's very creation?
Back to the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse:
If the Earth has been doomed since the beginning, there should obviously be historical moments that fit the signs John describes.
As such, the four horsemen could be four historical figures who everyone knows and recognizes for their achievements.
For example: The first horsemen could have been Napolean.
Revelation says that the first horsemen is a conqueror, and that he rode a white horse, and that he conquers a vast majority of the lands around him, he carries a bow, and given to him was a crown.
Napolean was a conqueror who rode a white horse, who conquered most of Europe, and took the crown from the Pope. The bow could be symbolic of long-range weaponry, as Napolean was known to create wars between nations without ever getting France involved.
The second horsemen is conflict on Earth. A red horse whose rider causes nations to fight with one another and carries a mighty sword.
Hitler started the second World War, the Nazi symbol is red and looks a bit like a horse to me... And the sword may represent political strength, which he had.
Of course, I'm not so sure about that one, but still....
I would like to know your opinions on the book of Revelation, and any ideas you may have as to the many things John sees.
Quote from: Nostradamus on Mon 31/07/2006 08:42:04The people who said that aren't 'priests', per se. They are Christian reggae artists. Another interesting twist: a while ago I also wiki-ed Bob Marley and a short sentence at the end of the article. said that he WAS baptized into the Orthodox church. I find rastas ironic since haile selassie was a christian, but they're worshipping him. It just doesn't seem natural.
I don't think you can believe that in 100%. The reason is the poeple who "testified" that are priests, and it's their huge interest to say that the most popular man ever in jamaica and a lot of caribbean and african countries became christian, hoping to convert rastafaris to christianity. It's a very comfrotable scam to convert people, and you know religious leader of all religions would lie about everything to get people to convert or become religious.
However even if it is the truth, it doesn't really say anything, because most people who are about to die and know it, all of a sudden turn religious because they think "hey maybe that will save me", so it is possible a man of one religion would convert to another on his deathbed in a thought that maybe it would save him. But if he lived all his life believing in rastafari than that's what he believed in period, no matter what he thought when he was about to die.
If you knew the ratafari religion you would know it has nothing to do with christianity. The rastafara believe they are the descendats of Queen Sheba (Sheba - today's Ethiopia) who had a child with King Solomon hence they see themselves as jews descendats (although judaism recognizes jews by their mom and not their dad), the basic twist to judaism is thatÃ, Ras Tafari Makonnen, crowned King Haile Selassie I, who was king of ethiopia in 1930-1974 is actually the messiah and incarnation of god in their belief and is called Jah (which is a literal reading of the name of god in the bible). It sits well with the bible because the bible says the messsiah will be the son of David, while Jesus is the son of Joseph, and Selassie is freom the lineage of the son of Solomon (son of David). Therefore the rastafara are currently not in their holy land Zion which in their belief is no longer Jerusalem and Israel but Ethiopia and the other non-rastafari countries people are Babylon. In their beliefe salvation will come when King Selasi would come back and babylon would be no more, only Zion, ratafari will be the only religion. Which is exactly the jewish faith of the end of the days, only jews believe it to be in israel and rastafari believe it to be in ethiopia. Nothing even remotely close to christianity.
So even if he did convert, which personally I won't believe cos it's too convient as stated above, to convert his beliefs so radically when about to die just shows it would have been done from being desprate also as explained above.

In the General Discussion forum, there are a lot of silly topics, but hopefully no one minds a serious one, as well.
I've noticed a lot of Christians have been claiming things in the Lord's name that I seriously doubt the good Lord had anything to do with.
All due to a little thing called 'free will'. The ability to think for ourselves and choose our own actions.
The best example I can think of is the Youth Group at my church. They went on a missionary trip to Nevada, and came back some few weeks later to tell us all about it in a speech.
They told of how SATAN kicked them out of a park for practising religion in public.
They also spoke of how GOD allowed them to find another church that would help them.
How GOD informed the park director that it was a city park, and they could do whatever they wanted there.
How SATAN still wouldn't let them.
And they ended this speech with, "We knew we were doing the right thing because we were being prosecuted."
Now, while my entire church gives them a standing ovation and a few women behind me are crying because it's apparently some beautiful religious moment, I'm muttering angrily to myself and staying firmly planted in my seat.
I hate to tell them this, but (believe it or not) God isn't responsible for every little good thing, bad thing, mishap, convenience, inconvenience, or event that happens to you in your life.
(my grandmother would kill me if she read that)

I didn't download the java thing (slow internet), but I have it paused on my download accelerator. It turns out that some idiots put tracking cookies on my computer. I wonder if CJ had anything to do with this?Quote from: yodaman11111 on Sat 29/07/2006 21:01:25
2. I keep getting screwy messages like 'Windows has found 55 errors, go to regfixit.net to get rid of them'. But every time it has a different amount of errors and a different site. It's been doing that since I got the new computer, so I suspect it's something wrong with the way they set the thing itself up, or else a screwy Windows 200 install.
Please notice that these messages are actually Internet Explorer popups.Ã, These are coming from either a website with popup ads or spyware that is on your computer.Ã,Â
If you actually believed that they were real Windows warnings and you went to regfixit.net and purchased whatever they are trying to sell you, you need to first, feel really dumb for falling for a fake ad that was designed to trick your grandmother, and then second, uninstall anything you got of that site, install adaware, a virus program, and an alternate browser
Then you need to learn some basics about computer and internet use before you continue to use and screw up your computer.
