I don't think FEELINGS should be legislated.

I don't either, but this kind of thing can destroy families, and even in the less extreme case the children grow up thinking that's how mummys and daddy's behave; the cycle never ends.  In certain circumstances, when there are enough people who can't make a responsible decision, the legislators should be allowed to step in.  I think this is one of those circumstances.

It's the same thinking behind prohibition and the criminalization of drugs.  And I know such laws don't stop everybody (as Prohibition proved, and as millions of drug users prove every day), and some people use drugs very responsibly, but a lot of people don't and those people cause a lot of harm, just as a lot of people commit adultery irresponsibly, which can end in more than just a dame's hurt feelings.  I feel that having such legislation in place would make a difference, however small.  That has to count for something.

Cause it requires actual brain skills. Also youtube is like a porn site. Lots of 12yr old boys pretending to be something, they're not.  ;)

I don't know what kind of porn sites you look at, Dual? but I'm thinking of calling the police...

Khris, I agree with pretty much everything you say.  Especially that people shouldn't get married in the first place if they intend to cheat.  And yes, in some many cases it would be difficult to judge whether a crime had been committed, but in every kind of crime such ambiguities frequently appear.  That's what courtrooms are for.

Theft isn't always as clear-cut as walking into a bank holding a gun.  What if someone gives you an item, you say thanks, and walk off with it, and then they turn around and say you stole it?

And it's nasty messes like that which a law would serve to prevent.

I can't really imagine the scenario. In the heat of the moment the man breaks away and says "wait, we shouldn't go any further... it's illegal!" As opposed to "woah woah back up I'm married!" To be honest, I'm skeptical with any law making an overwhelming difference to frequency of x crime.

By that logic, they might as well legalise theft and leave it up to the individual to say "Woah woah, back up.  This belongs to somebody else." as opposed to "Wait, I shouldn't take this... it's illegal!'

It's all a matter of having permission from the other party.  If you take an item from someone without their permission, then there is a victim.  It's theft and it's illegal.  But if they give said item to you they have no right to call themselves a victim and no crime has been committed.

I'm proposing that adultery should be treated in a similar way.  If a person goes behind their spouse's back, the spouse is a victim and it should be considered a crime.  But there should be leeway for couples who give one another the permission to sleep with someone else.  Once that permission is given they have no right to call themselves a victim and no crime has been committed.

The thing is I'm pretty sure that in most cases where a person has sex with someone other than his or here spouse, they do so behind the spouse's back.  Why? Because they know the spouse will be hurt and angry, because when you marry someone, you're committing yourself to that person and that person only.

I'm all for open marriages, but it MUST be seriously discussed, preferably before they marry.

If a married couple are liberal enough that they sleep around with other people, then it doesn't matter whether or not it's illegal because they're unlikely to prosecute each other.

But if one party feels the need to press charges against the other for committing adultery, then the chances are they were hurt by the act and feel that their contract of marriage has been broken.  So for that reason I think adultery should be illegal to protect those who would be hurt, but if a couple are mature and sensible enough to discuss the prospect of sleeping with other people, then the law should turn a blind eye.

I must confess, as a single young man, I quite like the idea of having a steamy affair with a married woman.  But I hate the idea of destroying someone's marriage.. especially if there are kids involved... best to stay away.  And it's nasty messes like that which a law would serve to prevent.

If and when I get married,  wouldn't dream of sleeping with another woman, unless we come to some kind of agreed arrangement that permits a bit of key-swapping from time to time ;)

Hey peeps.
I've said previously that I have no intention of buying Minecraft... but I'm kind of starting to cave.
So, I was wondering if someone could give me a brief few words about what you guys are actually doing and what this AGScraft business is all about and what I'd have to do to get involved (if you want me that is).

Thanks :)

Teeny bug, but did anyone else find that in the weather tower, when you clicked the hand command on the plug while standing on the crate, that the cursor becomes the newspaper icon (it also became the gun icon for about 10 seconds, but it was mostly the newspaper)?

BTW, if anyone is interested I update my earlier post a few comments [which became more of a review]:

Congratulations Josh.
This is shaping up very nicely, but unfortunately I have to go to bed now.
Can't wait to resume playing tomorrow :-)

[-Update-]
Finished.  I really enjoyed every minute of this game.  This is one of the best adventure games I've played in quite some time.  Normally in a game [or book or film] that has two story-lines, you find yourself preferring one over the other.  But here, I was just as enthusiastic about each setting and each set of characters  ;)

While the artwork is deliciously gritty and the option to go lo-res definitely adds to the effect, I can't help but wonder how beautiful it would have looked in higher-res.

The game world itself was really immersive, especially in Azriel's storyline.  However, at times, the game felt like it was supposed to be bigger than it really was.  For example after opening up the map and zooming out, all these cities and planets were teasingly labeled, giving the impression that you would be visiting those areas later in the game.  So it was a teeny bit disappointing when that didn't actually happen.  I'm not complaining about the length of the game though.  I thought it was more than ample in length for the price paid.

I had been anticipating the action scenes with some trepidation.  I thought they really complemented the gameplay very well.  I'm glad there weren't any more though.  I read a lot of reviews and comments saying they were too easy, but I personally had a bit of trouble with them (I stubbornly stayed on 'medium' though).  And one thing that annoyed me a bit was having to go through reams of dialogue every time I failed a gunfight, there should be an option to skip an entire conversation, at least in the moments before a gunfight.  However, the mechanics of these sequences was quite a clever and welcome use of AGS, I thought.  I'm a sucker for any game that tries something new with the code.

I've also read a one or two comments saying that the writing wasn't up to scratch.  I personally found it solid and well balanced.  It's noir without all the cliched and hammy dialogue, and even quite moving at the end.  The voice acting for this game is the best yet from Wadjet Eye, in my opinion.  Although I couldn't help think of Joey Mallone every time Kane spoke, which was difficult to ignore.

This wasn't intended to be a full review, but it seems to be heading that way, so I'll quickly add my voice to the chorus of praise for the music of this game.  I especially fell for the distinctive Blade Runner-esque tunes.

The twists, too were well dealt with:

Spoiler

I guessed that Mathias was Balder when he started questioning Sayuri in the ship about her escape from Center 7, but I didn't actually guess the 'main' twist until it's intended reveal... I guess the first mention of face transplants should have rang alarm bells.

Thanks Josh, for bringing such an ambitious project right the way through to fruition.  Many have tried, most have failed, you have succeeded, and then some.  I look forward to following your future endeavours.

Ach!  I'll be tucked up in bed by then.
Well, probably not, actually...

For me, 'gameplay' covers more than just puzzles.

Things like replayability, multiple endings, multiple characters, linearity... make no mistake, these are all gameplay features... and they all exist regardless of how good/bad or plentiful the puzzles are.

[edit]
Thinking about it, I would use the Blackwell series as examples of games where I would consider voting for Best Gameplay, but not for Best Puzzles.  In these games you can switch between characters, you can use the phone and the internet to make enquiries... things like this, for me, really add to the gameplay.  And of course, these gameplay elements form the basis of many of the puzzles (i.e. using Joey to go through a wall and overhear a conversation), but in my opinion, the puzzles themselves in Blackwell are not really that special compared to the puzzles in some other games out there.
#5857
Yes! In fact, that's exactly what I wished I could do when I was playing.
#5858
Nice little game.
I needed the walkthrough though :(

The music was really cool! but I could have done without Zak's little monologues.  They kept distracting me from reading the conversations properly.
#5859
If a game consisted of JUST puzzles... and you had to go from one room to another, solving puzzles and NOTHING else... then no matter how good those puzzles happen to be, I wouldn't dream of nominating it for a 'best gameplay' award.
