* If you had to list 3 things that make up a good game what would they be?
          Good story
          Good puzzles
Innovation - I'm a sucker for games that do something new or interesting with the code.

* What is it about a game that inspires you?
Its release - This is a major achievment in itself, and when ever a new AGS game is released I feel a little bit more inspired to work on my own ideas... clearly not enough to get me to pull my finger out though

* What do you consider 'off putting' about a game?
When I have to wait too long for a character to walk from one side of a screen to the other... especially if there is a lot of to-ing and fro-ing between scenes.  I think all games should have, as standard, either: a) double click to run, or b) go straight into the next screen after clicking on the door.

* Your Preference: Lucasarts or Sierra or other?
Lucas - To be entirely honest, I don't really get on very well with Sierra games.

* Mouse or Keyboard controls?
Either, as long as it's appropriate for the particular game.  I don't want to be forced to use a keyboard if a mouse would make things ten times easier.

* Anything else you can think of....  Not for the moment.  I'll have a little think :-)

This looks promising!
Will be keeping an eye on this one.
Best of luck Sughly.

This made me chuckle.

"Buy "The Journey to Kelabra" Wallpaper Pack and GET THE GAME FOR FREE!!!"

I love how the game itself is actually just a little bonus gift for people who buy the main product - a collection of 3D gay images.  :-*

To be fair, voice acting is very often pretty bad in even the biggest commercial games, so I don't think paying actors is necessarily going to justify the price to you or to us.  Not at this point anyway.

Personally I would happily save a few quid to play the game non-voiced.  But if you absolutely must have voicing I'd rather give a small donation for the privilage than pay a set price.

Might I recommend "Toy Soldiers" if you haven't already seen it.  It has Sean Astin (Goonies) and Will Wheadon (Stand by me), albeit slightly more grown up that most of the films in this thread... but nevertheless, a ripping yarn.

Haha.
I would play this but I wouldn't want to make my roommate paranoid.

Heavenly Creatures (Peter Jackson, 1994)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0110005/

Good film.  I very nearly suggested it the other day, but wasn't quite sure it fit Grim's criteria.  The characters are younger than the actresses who play them.  Although there are flashback scene's with younger actresses playing their childhood selves.

Definitely worth a watch for anyone who hasn't seen it yet.

Looks good.  I love the character sprites.
Looking forward to this :-)

Regarding gamma etc. Galen, you run a black n white horror game WINDOWED???!!! That's like watching the air duct scene in the first alien movie, in broad daylight.  :o

One can only upscale so much before things start looking like lego.

If it comes down to it I'd probably set my background to black and hide my icons.

I play nearly every AGS game full-screen.. even most 320X200 ones... Is this bad?

Haha, Arj0n that's epic.
I've definitely seen some of the things on that list and I can also announce that I remember hearing that song on the X-files...  Itch scratched, cheers man.

My friend showed me this piece of music:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WSxDjW9bLCQ

I immedately recognized it, but I know know where from.

I did a bit of digging, and found out that it is, or was, considered to be ambient or 'furniture' music, so I've probably heard it in an elevator or homewares store.  However, I'm CERTAIN I've heard it in a film or TV show (if not several), but can't think where.

My question is:  Off the top of your head, have you heard this peice on a film or TV show that I might have seen?

It apparently appears in a Korean drama called 'Windstruck' but that's not where I've heard it.
(can you apparently appear? haha)

Thanks

There were several different soundcards in that era.

Are we talking
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z8raL-lWjOs&feature=related
Adlib?

or
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i3dB0qEcG20
MT-32?

Those are the two quintessentially retro sounds I remember when I play 90s games. There were others, but they're either wavetable or beepers.

Dammit, I haven't been able to get the Monkey Island theme out of my head since I read this thread yesterday and spent an hour watching people play different versions of it on various instruments.  And this morning I went to the cafeteria of my uni to try and teach myself how to play it (just the basic melody, since I can't read sheet music)... This isn't going to end any time soon  :-\

Sounds like something I'd read.
There's definitely Chzo vibes in there, but don't let that worry you.  You can't expect to be completely original.  5 Days (as much as I loved it) certainly borrowed elements from other sources.  And you seem to have a lot more else going on than just the Chzo-esque stuff.

Let us know when you've finished. :D

Ahh, lovely, thanks Anian.
I was convinced it was a bug.

I finally got around to playing Episode 1, loved it, and am now loving Episode 2.  Even more so now that I'm not stuck anymore :P

[edit]
That was a nice ending! Can't wait for part 3 :-)

Spoiler
I'm in the apartment, and I have tried using the thermo-gel on the hand, but the hand remains cold.  How do I warm it up so I can use it on the terminal?

I second Lord of the Rings... the old black and white version is also great.  Although the 1990 version still hits all the right notes.

Also, I've literally just watched The Kite Runner... like two hours ago.  That has child actors, two boys in particular, and it's very sentimental indeed... I will admit I was starting to well up at times.
#5899
Was there a demo of this doing the rounds?  Because I'm 90% sure I've played this, but pretty sure I never bought it or downloaded it... not a full version anyway.  I mustn't have thought much of it if I've forgotten it so easily.

Just thought I'd mention Christopher Lloyd is in the latest episode of Fringe.  That's all. :-)
