Also, in the long run, I'm not sure I'd generate more revenue on one single full title than on the grand total of four separately sold chapters, but that's just a side note.

Considering you've only just thought of the idea of charging money a month ago, is this really such an issue?  Any revenue is better than the no revenue you were initially expecting.

But I don't blame you for wanting to make money for a game as beautiful as THD, you'd be mad not to.

However, I would rather avoid being put in a situation where I feel like I have to pay for chapter 1 even though I've already played it... even if you do add lots of extra goodies to it.

I'm not sure the "one chapter free" model is the best. Gamers tend to stop playing at certain milestones, and there's no milestone like the ending of a chapter.

I don't think I agree.  I mean, of course there will be players who download chapter one because it's free and then not go on to play the others... but if you were to charge for it, those same people would be the first not to buy it.  At least by giving it away free you have a hook.  And at least some of them will go on to by the remaining chapters.

Take a look at The Dream Machine.  They have a system where chapter 1 is free and you can then choose to buy the remaining capters individually, or pay for them all up front for a discount.  I have pre-ordered the whole bundle, and I can tell you honestly that I would not have handed over a single penny had I not been able to play Chapter 1 first.  And I'm sure I'm not the only one.

Nice teaser cheers Grundy.
Somehow watching that led me to end up spending an hour watching old Seinfeld clips, haha.

That little bobbing up and down of the head and torso in Mouth's edit does wonders.  No one (without practice and/or a wheelchair) can move forwards without their head bobbing a bit.

Theres more an more pretty nasty tales coming out of Aus.
Glad you're okay Ryan.

Do you happen to know if the Mana Bar survived the flooding?  That's in Brisbane is it not?

Quote from: Dualnames on Thu 13/01/2011 13:15:21I promise more interviews, one being a really secret one and perhaps the most awesome.

It was fun to do, thanks, Dual.

Oops, I mean, err... I wonder who it could be...

Monsieur,
I know if you have a Freewebs website you can also add a forum to it.
Perhaps you could create a Freewebs account, and even if you don't care about using it to make a website you could just use it to set up a forum and then link to it from your own website.

Woohoo!
I've already preordered :-)
Although, I stupidly put my home address when I'm still in Japan for the next 8 months - still, I'll download it on release day and then look forward to my special package when I get home.

Congratulations Josh and Dave and everyone involved!
This is a great start to the year for AGS!.

Knightmare.

This one's a no brainer. I mean, it was a TV gameshow based on 80s adventure games. I'm honestly amazed no British AGSers have given this one a shot by now.

I used to love that show when I was a kid!
Still sing the theme tune to myself once in a while :D

Someone should definitely make a Knightmare game.

I'll be returning from my year abroad in Japan and going back to uni in Newcastle in late-Aug/early Sept.  I would love to be able to join Mittens.  I'll have to figure out exactly how my schedule will work, coz I also want to pop to Korea for a week or so during that time.  But If it's in Ireland or Holland I'm definitely interested.

I know this isn't the critics lounge, but I have a number of issues...

1) the shading is off
2) the perspective is off
3) there's no apples

just my two cents...

General Discussion / Re: Do you trust PayPal?
Sat 08/01/2011 15:14:31
The only problem I had with them was a few years ago when I was doing a lot of ebaying and one day someone wanted to buy something from me using a credit card.  A message came up asking me if I wanted to allow my account to accept credit cards, and I just pressed 'yes' without thinking about it.  What I had inadvertently done, and what was not really explained properly at the time, was that my account had now been changed into a 'business' account.  The upshot of this was that for a while afterwards I was paying tax on all transactions that I shouldn't have been paying, regardless of payment method... When I emailed PayPal, they got a bit tetchy with me and were reluctant to reverse my account, telling me I could only do it once.

But other than that they're a solid service and in terms of trust and security, there's nothing to worry about.

Welcome back Butcher... I don't think we've had the pleasure of meeting as I'm [relatively] new...  I'm Stupot.

I don't know if the forums are 'dead' or 'boring'... just different.  They can't be that bad, otherwise I wouldn't keep coming back everyday.  I think Ali's nailed it on the head, really.  Forums in general are a lot less active than they were 5-10 years ago.

It's kind of sad that after 4 years I still feel like kind of a newbie.  But maybe that's my fault for still not having made a game or done anything worthwhile with AGS.  But everyone keeps banging on about 'the good-old-days' and I sometimes wonder whether I should be taking that slightly personally - like I'm part of the demise of the forums or something.

But I enjoy posting here, and have a lot of respect for many guys here.  We should be looking to the furtue and not dwelling on the past...  The old crew are all on Facebook and probably talk to each other there or on MSN/Skype and really have little need for these forums anymore apart from to plug their new games.  If they think the rest of us are boring, that's not really our concern.

I've also decided to have a bash at this, because the theme fits an idea for a short story I've been mulling over.
Won't be very graphics heavy though.

Dom, the links in your AGS database entries for Living Nightmare (original) and for Endless Dreams are broken.  Deluxe is fine though.
