Man, this has made me realise just how few AGS games I've played this year :-(
How depressing... I promise to play more in 2010!

Fun experiment: I turned my glasses upside down on my head for a while and it throws the 3D in reverse.  Things that are supposed to go to your left eye go to your right and things that are supposed to go to your right go left.  It makes some things that are supposed to be close look far and vice versa.

This works with the old bog-standard Red-green/red-blue glasses, too.
I used to played about with this as a kid and used to draw my own 3D pictures (only basic stuff, like stick men and houses).
All you need is a red pen and a blue/green pen and you basically draw the image twice... the distance between the red pen and it's blue/green counterpart determines the depth of that part of the image.  And when there is no gap then that part of the image is neutral.  Frontness and backness depends on whether the red is to the left or the right of the blue/green, so based on that alone, it makes sense that turning your glasses upside down is going to reverse the depth of the 3D image.
One picture I was particularly proud of was a house... the basic kind all kids draw, 4 windows, a chimney with smoke coming out of it, and a door with a bendy garden path leading up to it (I guarantee everyone here has draen that picture at least once).  But I made the garden path look like it readlly was leading up to the house, and i drew stick fugures in the house that really looked like they were on the other side of the window.

Hooray for 3D!

I feel you there, brother.

I saw Avatar a couple of days ago and really loved it.  I felt the story was slightly generic sci-fi/fantasy fare, the premise of which was nothing special  But it was dealt with very well and I always felt immersed and involved.  The visuals were amazing, as I think the rest of the world has already worked out, so they don't need me to tell them.

I did have one tiny gripe.  The 3D was by far some of the best 3D I've ever seen, but rarely did anything actually seem to come right out in front of me.  In the adverts and trailers at the beginning, there was an advert for Sky, and the Sky logo came right out of the screen and was so close to my nose I felt I could have reached out and touched it.  Same thing with the Cadbury's advert.  But in the actual feature they rarely took advantage of this.  Certainly there was a long of 'depth', but there didn't seem to be a lot of what I'm going to call 'fronth'.  There was a bit, but I felt they should have exploitd that more.

Like I say, it's a tiny gripe...

Awesome film though, and I'm happy to be able to say that I've seen it.

In the run-up to Season 6 of Lost I've started a little countdown blog, which I'm going to update daily with various Lost-related things and stuff (mainly videos).

If anyone fancies having a look, you'll find it here:
http://countdownlost.blogspot.com/

I'm struggling a bit for hits, so if you fancy linking me up or speading the word I'd be grateful.

Cheers guys, hope you enjoy :-)

I'm not sure which bits are done on a keyboard and which aren't, but according to Wikipedia at least some of the synthesised parts are played on Moog Taurus Bass Pedals, using his hands...

Maybe not quite the info you're after, but interesting anyway :)

Don't use it much, but Captain_Stu is my Skype name if anyone's interested :)

General Discussion / Re: Game sponsorship

No offence old bean, but If I wanted advertising in my game I'd rater have a go at trying to negotiate something myself first.  No point paying a middle-man if you can avoid it.

Really?!?
Dang!  Has it always been like that? :(

Haha, I could never see Wonkyth's Avatar either... but now I can.
But now, funnily enough, I can't see your's anymore AG!

Clear type?... where might I find this?

[Edit]
I done it! Thanks man.  I was starting to think I'd have to do something drastic, like reformat my computer :|
I know nothing :(

The other day, I was playing about with the 'Ease of Access' features, on my laptop (using Vista).  I playd about with the magnifying glass option and the trippy 'High Contrast' option... then I turned them off again...

But ever since that, all the text seems different... the text on my Desktop, in my windows, even the text on websites (including this very text I'm typing now).  I don't like it.  Some of it seems kind of blurry, and some seem overly pixelly, like Windows 98 text or something.  Does anyone know what I need to do to get it back to how it was before?

There's also this stupid joke that makes CD/DVD player tray eject and close over and over again. I read about that, scanned WinAPI documentation, found needed functions and wrote a small console app that did that. Never made a prank with this though, but I guess its possible if you make an inviisble window and put executable to Windows autorun folder  ;D

Yeah, I think someone did that to me a high-school. The disc tray opened every time I clicked or something :) can't really remember but it was bloody funny!

Yeh, I once clicked on a link to recieve a "Free Cup Holder!"... after a bit of whirring, my disc drive opened itself... I was both amused and slightly scared that I'd downloaded a virus... but it would indeed have made an excellent cup holder :)

I'd stay away from the games, at least the Case of the Pearl Earring.

Try Sherlock Holmes Vs Jack the Ripper... fair enough I've only played the Demo.. but krikey, what a demo!  I do intend on buyign the full game at some point.

As for the movie, I'm not too fussed that they've put some action into it... I'm just fussed that Robert Downy Jr, rather than playing this uniquely recognisable icon of fiction, he seems to be playing the same character he always plays.

Still, I wouldn't mind watching it.

It's an unfortunate chain of events that Christmas ended up with Christ in it's name.  It's about food and family, and rubbish music... The religious thing is kind of a subplot for anybody who cares.

I've actually felt quite in the Xmas spirit this year, despite being a right Scrooge for the past few years... I think partly because I've made friends with a lot of the Japanese exchange students and they're all quite excited about the concept of a proper British Christmas.  I guess some of the excitement has rubbed of on me...

This has been said before, but incase anyone doesn't know, and as the subject of the Konami Code has arisen:
type the code in when you're on Facebook.

On topic, that video is quite clever, but I kind of got the message after the first minute and didn't bother to watch the rest.

General Discussion / Snow Cats 2
Thu 17/12/2009 23:14:02
The snowclouds looming over the UK the past two weeks have finally opened fire, and as I speak, my village is the experiencing something of a blizzard akin to the Blitz.

You may remember Creed's thread last year, encouraging people to build Snow Cats.

I was going to just post in there, but it's a bit old now, and didn't want to risk it getting locked (How old does a thread have to be before posting in it offends the moderators?  ::) )

So anyway, yeh... build Cats!!!  Or anything else cute, interesting or AGS-related.  Then Post your photos of it here.

I'm intrigued by #1... I already want to know what happened, and how he's gonna get back.

The others could all be good aswell, but there's no mystery.  With Cyclone's Eye, not only do you have an awesome title, but we've got something to think about before the game's even been made.

I've also got a loads still... finding hard to shift them actually.

A fedora is what Indiana Jones wears.

That guy looks nothing like Trilby... that's just a guy in a smart suit and hat, haha.
And Trilby's not a conman by trade, he's a burglar and thief.
