General Discussion / Re:Valentines Day
Sun 15/02/2004 01:43:47
I had a great Valentine's Day. I don't have a girlfriend, but I saw "Triplets of Belleville" with a female internet friend from DC who is currently visiting my state. It was only a couple hours of hanging out with her but she was very friendly and I got a few hugs and kisses out of it. :)
And now I've just found out that my older sister's boyfriend will be proposing tonight, which is very exciting. They've been together for five years and have a son, and my sister's been wondering if this would happen for a LONG time. She's going to be so happy. I'm excited for her!

This week's theme: Experimental music.

Let your imagination run wild, as long as it doesn't sound remotely traditional. Stay away from verse/chorus structures, consistent tempos, etc. Please DO go crazy with weird synths, sound effects, and general strangeness. The more complicated and bizarre the better. Create something that you'd never hear on the radio in a million years.
If you want, look through an image library like Corbis and find an image you like. Try and illustrate that image with your music.

No size, length, or format restrictions.

The winner will be chosen based on creativity.  :)

Hooray! :) Thank you so much.
I wouldn't say I win "most all the contests" I enter... Not the last three ones I participated in, anyway. But I'm happy I won this, and I just emailed you with my soundfont choice.
Now I shall get brainstorming on the next contest.

If I were planning on visiting another country, I would take the time to learn all about it. The most important thing to learn is how to teach yourself.
If a student has a plan for themself, then yes, they should have access to all the information and schooling they'll need. However, the average student is not considering a career in science. What they're taught should be proportional to what they should know as they go into adulthood, and putting too much emphasis on specialized subjects can be distracting, and stressful for that matter. The majority of adults need not know or care about Eli Whitney or advanced mathematics, and yet students are expected to learn it all and remember it-- at least until the tests are done.

I remember googlewhacking like, a year ago. I think I eventually found a couple of them. Twas boring though.

That's my point. All the wrong classes are compulsory. What they teach is based on a curriculum which is not based on the true trials of the average person's life and career.
Of course, I really shouldn't speak. I've had my education put into my own hands and I only indulge in my personal interests, not work to fix my weaknesses. But I still believe that the education system (USA's at least) is flawed.

Here's a thought. I think schools spend too much time teaching kids this sort of thing. Most of them never have a use for most of the things they learn and will forget it all afterwards. And then after they're out of school, most don't have a clue how to run their own lives.
The average person will never need to know the periodic table of elements, or the capitals of countries they'll never visit. So there's hours and hours wasted learning specialized things. Later on in life, they'll still need their parents' help to do their taxes.

I love anyone who can come up with an awesome name like "Sashatan"-- and be cool enough to not even use it.
Namely, Femme.

CORNELIUS, one of my favorite artists, recently released a double-CD set-- one cd with remixes of songs from his last album "Point", and the other is a DVD containing music videos for the songs from Point. I love the music videos. They're very artistic and expiremental executions of simple concepts that add up to beautiful eye-candy to match the incredible music. It costs the same as any normal CD.
There's also a bonus video on it, which is simply washed-out looking slow-motion footage of people walking through a Japanese park, with beautiful calming music set to each person's footstep, or leaf falling from a tree, etc. Everything is creative and mystifying.
If you see it in a music store, pick it up. It flat out rocks in its own nifty little Japanese way. And get the original Point CD, as well as his previous album "Fantasma" which is equally as good.

Those are awfully tantalizing. It would be cool to set up a sharing system, but if you just want to share them, you could always just find some webspace and advertise them in Soundfont communities.

Sounds pretty cool. I'm not sure if any of my soundfonts are particularly rare though... most of them are just off of Hammersound.

Awesome. Babies rock. CONGRATULATION!!

Can it be a real person?
I hope so. You don't know her anyway.

I fear the effects of removing the taboo from breasts. What if future generations get too used to them while growing up, and don't find them as sexy?

Finally, I adore the music videos of Neil Cicierega.

If I ever meet him in real life, I'm gonna buy that man a beer!

Thanks. You can mail it if you want.

Also, he's rather old and you can see his dangly parts.
Now imagine jumping in the shower and furiously cleansing yourself while weeping. That's the gist of the Goatse Experience.
