...or the arm of child, which can already tell the time?

Well, I've put some more effort into the watch, since I guess nobody really started. But from now on, I don't take anymore complains about the material :)

@Matti: I'm looking forward to your entry. Since the fleas are quite low-res, it shouldn't take too long to push those pixels ;)

The usual suspect has support for iso grids too.

I've also found this quote in the Pixel Joint Forums:
QuotePIXEL STUDIO : it also has the tools that GraphicsGale has, nice GUI, and the instant isometric tool rocks. though working in pixelling is somewhat different from a standard paint program but you'll get use to it in time

Isotopia looks interesting too: http://code.autistici.org/trac/isotopia

I did the conversion in Gimp:
Image -> Mode -> indexed. 255 colors (not 256 because zero is a color too)

In Photoshop, it's:
Image -> Mode -> Indexed Color. Then enter 255 in the field "colors".

Hope it helps.

For this competition, I made a slight modification to the rules. I hope you don't mind.

Rules
* background and sprites are supplied, setting the theme for the competition
* participants must use the supplied material and create an animation from it
* the supplied background has to be in the first frame
* Both sprites have to appear in the animation

Flea Hawkers

Have you ever imagined, selling stuff to parasites? No? Now it's your chance!
This flea hawker is about to make the deal of his life, selling the contents of his suitcase to his fellow on the left.
But what can it be? Anything to exploit "natural resources"? Anything to put some more comfort in a fleas life? Or just a lame excuse to suck some blood in the neighborhood...?
Your choice, your decision, bring this scene to life!

And to make it a little easier, here's the image splitted in sprites and background.

The arm

The fleas

Trophys

1st prize

2nd prize

3rd prize

special girl entry prize

I can't remember if there was even one female participant in the animation competition in 2008 - so here's your special price. Hopefully this lures some you female members in ;)

Alright... 22 days, have fun and GO!

In case you've got a drivers license, it's probably the last chance to get drunk in the next few month. Because now you're cursed to drive all your friends who got 18 before and had to drive you ;D
Happy B-Day!

And since you're now credit-worthy, gambling might be good idea :)

I mainly use my DS(old version) as an audiobook player. Speakers are okay for voice and fastforward via touchscreen is also really nice. Second usage is playing games while I'm on the train - bigger and brighter screens would be a big plus for me.
And since the new model already has an SD-Card slot, I don't need the GBA-Slot for my *cough* homebrew-device anymore.
The last GBA game I've actually bought was "Zelda and the Minish Cap" (or the prequel of Brothers in time?), but after that I can't think of any decent titles.

There's also a slight hope that the new DS somehow gets homebrew enabled so I would get portable scumm vm back. But on the other hand, unless my current DS gets broken, I'll stick with it.

I've just tried it.
Here's the .png:

First I've switched the colormode to indexed - 255 colors. Then I've saved it as pcx.

And here's the .pcx:

It loads fine in DP2e, try for yourself ;)

Phew, now I understand why it took you so much time - I especially like the first jump of the banana!
Well, time to chew some fingernails ;)

Or if nothing helps, take a screenshot, re-convert it 256 colors and export it to .pcx  :=

oh.. I totally forgot about scaling. You're right, splitting it in two screens makes more sense. I'm glad that I've posted this early enough :)

But here's a another image I don't understand perspective wise.
Edit
I guess Mobygames isn't too keen on hotlinking, so here's the link to the image:
http://www.mobygames.com/game/dos/lost-files-of-sherlock-holmes-the-case-of-the-serrated-scalpel/screenshots/gameShotId,13745/

Lost Files of Sherlock Holmes - image courtesy of mobygames

It seeems like the vanishing point is on the left, outside of the picture. Z-axes are parallel, so there's only one VP. But what's with the upper part of the image? The railing doesn't seem to hit the VP at all, still it looks alright - am I missing something?

edit:
I sort of solved the mystery myself :)
It seems like this screen is the bottom part of an vertical scroller and the upper part simply has its own vanishing point.
Btw. I should better  have posted my problem in the "Technical art questions and discussions"-Thread.
Look, I'm moderating myself ;D

Anyway, still thanks for the tip of splitting the image!

If you'd send me a file, I could try to open and save it over here.
Also you might try this one http://www.graphics-converter-pro.com There's also a trial available.

Critics' Lounge / Hallway: perspective woes
Fri 07/11/2008 21:07:58
Dear critics lounge,
I know, I can hardly do anything on my own :P

I'd like to draw a hallway and want to make it a little more interesting. That's why I'd like have vertical scrolling (funny, that the current backgroundblitz covers the same topic) in it, but I'm totally lost with doing this perspective wise...
Here's my try. Unfortunately it looks distorted to me. Do you have any ideas?

edit - removed pic, since ProgZmax' version is more demonstrative

I'll never learn persepective, that's for sure ;)

Come on, google: "deluxe paint 2"   ::)
it's in the first three entries
#2075
Hey thanks matti!
The effect is easy to achieve (using PM): just choose "Transcluent" as paintmode, pick a rather dark color and draw some random lines on the mirror, done.

Hopefully Ghost extends the deadline so I'll see your entry. And I'm pretty sure your entry will actually be a tough competition  8)

@Ryan Timothy: Why not using GraphicsGale?

Nice! Didn't know the ASE before too :)
But telling from the screenshots, it doesn't seem to look very user friendly.
Well, Promotion's layersystem isn't very selfexplaining either ;)

You might check it for youself as PM offers a 30 day trial.
Or if you really love Dpaint, it has an animation package too.
Oh... and GraphicsGale is free and good but has nothing to do with Dpaint.

Hmm.. I wasn't even aware, that there's a non enhanced version of DP2 for PC.

I suggest to find you a new DP2e - the web is full of it ;) Before I switched to ProMotion, I've used "DeluxePaint II Enhanced (v3.0)" with Dosbox.

Btw. here's also a great tutorial on SCUMM art with DP2e

Awesome!! Thanks a million, can't wait to try this out.  :=

@Ghost: So you were also looking for this effect  ;)
#2080
Allright, I'll look into that. Thanks!

Btw. someone should really write a tutorial about this :)
