dbuske, as usual, please, by all means, you have good ideas for apps, but just take time to improve the user-experience. Tx

The problem is that I just don't have the natural ability or desire to learn scripting and programming.
So I have to settle for more basic games.  I just can't do fancy things.
I tried getting someone to work with me and do the scripting for my Dumbledore game, but I just can't find anyone.
One really has to know scripting well to do a decent puzzle in a game.
My mind is more suited for philosophy and religion than math and programming.
The Dumbledore game would really improve with some scripting of magical battles and special effects.

All I was talking about is just testing one room to save the time of having to go through every room.

I made a quick assumption and turned out correct. I searched everywhere and didn't find a function for running just one room.
I thought it would be a good thing for the editor to be able to do.

Thanks for the replies. Very helpful.

What the editor really needs is a way to test a room without having to go through every room.
For a long game it is a real pain testing.

Is there a way to test rooms without having to walk through every room each time?
If it is not possible, maybe this is perfect for a module.

They failed to protect the environment, They tortured people in Cuba.
They gouged us for gas.  Allowed credit card companies to gouge us.

Recruitment / Need scripter for new game
Tue 03/05/2011 17:56:42
I am working on a very special game.  Eventhough I said I don't do standard adventure games, I really wanted to do this story.
It is the story of Dumbledore and Gellert Grindelwald.
It is a powerful story, that will have to be done for non-profit-free.  The openning scene gives J.K. Rowling credit for the story.
I have 5 rooms done to the point where Gellert comes to Godric's Hollow to look for Deathly Hallows objects.
I have all the characters edited and sized.  The inventory is made, and the objects to prettify rooms are done.  Backgrounds are being collected and used. I do not go into the gay thing.  Rowling said Dumbledore is gay, but never says he ever acted on it.  Although he was attracted to Gellert.
Showing sexual tension in an adventure game would be very hard to do.
What I will need the Scripter to do is take the basic scene and add any needed special effects.
Such as when Gallert disparates into Godric's hollow, or Albus and Gallert battle with wands in Ariana's room.
The scripter will get equal producer game maker credit.
The scripter will be able to add whatever he or she thinks would make this adventure more magical.
I am not sure how to have 2 people work on it.  Maybe I can finish the game then just hand it over to the Scripter.

Anyone interested?  The game won't be nearly as good without a knowledgable Scripting person.

I still need help scripting for the magic battle scripting.  Please if anyone can help?  Help!!!

You can't have more than one "main"/player character at one time anyway. So as soon as you call cDumbledore.SetAsPlayer the previous player is no longer the player character.

So where are you calling the SetAsPlayer function at? Also, your on_mouse_click function might be relevant.

Yep, turning on mouse click false worked.  the character walks.
What is the most efficient way to accomplish the change back and forth from the main Narrating character room to the other main character in flashback.
Thank you

Well, is there a walkable area in the room? Is cDumbledore on the walkable area?

I am pretty sure he is, but I will check.  Thanks.
Yes there is a walkable area and he is standing squarely on it.

I have made the first player just transparent.  Can there be 2 main characters in the same room?

I am making a game where the main character is like in Amadeus where the main character is telling the story and
then flashbacks occur.  This goes back and forth throughout the game.
I start with the main character in room 1, then switch to room 2 and make the main character transparent.
How do I get the NPC to be able to be controlled  ie. the main character.
Then switch back again.

I found this but the npc still cannot be made to walk:
   cDumbledore.SetAsPlayer();

The links are bad.  I get advertising.

If you are interested in the subject matter play it!

I suggest that the code just be updated with c++ first, so there is a solid windows base.
Then when that is done then work on other ports.

Yeah I just do the games for fun.
I don't even want to be professional.
The informational games are just a general introduction to a subject of interest.
I try to improve each game adding features and visual treats to make the games interesting.
The games are what they are.
Just call the games quirky and if someone wants to play them okay, if not ok.

Sorry, but that's a deal-breaker.

There is a french forums you know!

I had to download msvcr100d.dll and copy it to system32 to get this to run, this seems to be a problem of agsd3dvsync.dll though.

To be honest, I fail to see how this is either "your best" or a "game", imo it is neither. It still suffers from the same issues as your previous works.
-The succession of Display() textboxes shouldn't come every time a room is entered. People who read them won't want to do so twice, and people who don't read them won't want to look at them at all.
-Which is understandable due to the bad readability of the squiggly font.
-The backgrounds are stressful to the eye, a multitude of vibrant photos on a vibrant background isn't exactly the form I prefer for educational reading.
-I'm also not sure where the hours of research went into; isn't this all on wikipedia? (I didn't check every fact of course but seeing how long the wikipedia article is I doubt there's much additional info in your work.)
-You still, contrary to every single other button layout on the planet, put the button to progress to the left of the button to go back.

I don't want to be rude but I'm not sure if continuing to make these kind of apps is the right thing for you at the moment. If you have fun making them by all means do continue to do so.

Oh, and a deal-breaker is a (missing) feature that makes you reconsider getting something (e.g. a car without AC).

All the things you listed are put in intentionally.  I know I have improved adding new features each game.
The colors match the subject and slightly abstract nature of the game. I prefer the buttons as I placed them.
I do not want to make a standard adventure game.  Interactive documentaries ie. informational games are what I gravitated to.
Just a matter of  basic friendly disagreement.
I will check on the .dll file.  I also will remove the agsd3dvsync.dll.  I don't use it anyway.
Thanks for the response.

What do you mean by deal breaker?
#279
Oh, okay I will start the game and keep trying to get to the right point.

Above is the download link for my interactive documentary "Jeanne d'arc".
The life of Joan of Arc.
Features:
Semi-abstract backgrounds
3 video movies depicting Jeanne's visions
Loads of photos and paintings with descriptions
Narrated dialogs for every page of the game
The Maid of Domremy character on every page, pointing to each photo.
The Maid character has it's own interesting inventory.
Very colorful game
Many hours of research for all aspects of Jeanne's life.
Good introduction to the Life of Jeanne d'arc
I consider it my best game yet.

I did some prelim work on a couple of other projects. I think I will do an interactive documentary on Our Solar System.
With lots of photos and information.

I reuploaded the game.  I found some spelling and syntax problems after that.  I will have to reupload again later.
Last upload, finished. Enjoy.
