Phemar, why do you think God will listen to you?
See, you're the one that goes after the quick reward situation. You pray for your ill uncle and God cures him?
Again you have not understand what praying is.
It's all about a state of mind where more than getting answers from God, you find them in you.

God's infinity shows itself in science, the more you dig, the more you find. It never ends.
And first of all, it doesn't make you happier to know what was bigbang or if it existed. The knowledge of God existence will clearly sooth your inner being and reassure you that cancer, bits and bites, molecules, HIV, cellphones don't really count in your life.

I also want to apologize to Vince Twelve because I didn't understand his comments.
To all homosexuals as well, if I somehow offended anyone. 'The only gay in the village' comes from a TV show called Little Britain.
Maybe I should have thought before posting something like that.

Okay, sorry about that Tuomas.
But you've touched a critical point here, 'how to read the Bible'?
Maybe people would stop killing if they took the right approach.

I feel I'm heading into a trap. Explaining something that I cannot prove to you and with 4000 people that may read it is a bit of a loose situation. But then again, I never wanted a win situation.

First I have to tell you that you are lying about yourself to us. No human being goes from 8 to 80 without the steps in between. What am I saying? Well, it's human nature to swap affections instead of going into a blank state. So, if you were a heavy Christian (not sure what that means) then you must be something else. And atheism is...not.
God.
God is all. God is our nature. God IS to explain why we are here.
You don't agree? Fine.
But why does it fascinate you? I mean, it's so old, boring, senseless, impossible, unicorns are much cooler, right?
Why do you came back for answers?
You know why? Because men without a lord have no value (put your fingers down, I'm not finished), because men without a leader cannot be nations, and because men without God cannot understand.
Ask yourself, why did I abandon Jesus? He didn't abandon you.
Who do you call when your mother is sick to death?
Einstein? Dr.House?
You call God because you want her to be in peace.
I wrote this once on a thread similar to this one. It's not my words :
   "Church is the only place somebody talks to me,
    and I don't have to answer back."
                  Charles de Gaulle

Maybe God was all in Jesus head you say. But you know there were many more prophets and other Gods and I know you've studied enough to understand that putting all religions on a basket you can come up with a similar if not equal outcome.
The reason men wrote and follow their God and their Jesus is very clear to me. It's called Love.

Why do you think God as a plan for YOU?
What have you done to deserve it?

Tuomas: again I advise you to search deeply into the subject and do read what I wrote.
              How many gospels have you read? Do you know how many there are? Do you understand that the Bible is based solely on 3 gospels?
              About someone living 900 years, can't you see it's a way to convince people he was really, really, old?
              Why can't you see the Bible is not a documentary?

I believe the smile on your face is fake. ;)
Phemar, The Bible was written in a time when few people could read, and it was meant to be thought, not read as a book of fiction. People back then didn't have the argumentation or the knowledge that we have at our finger tips. So they told things through stories in a way it could be easily understood by people.
It's easy for you to mock the words of those 'dudes' but it's clearly harder for you to understand it.
#1766
Vince I know you're a good and talented man, but yes you've spread confusion on this thread. I also think there's a bit of that language barrier because I also tried to be funny about it.

Natcho, the more people tell you to be responsible and pick your words wisely you do it the other way. Andail may be teaching you a very good lesson as he himself is not a believer.
Also, where on earth did you think Christians 'get points'? Heaven is when you made peace with God my friend and are ready to die.

KhrisMUC, people get sick more times than we wanted isn't it? And cancer? What a terrible disease it is. You can blame it on God, or maybe stop and think that it wasn't His fault. Because you are confused as well. When a Christian tells someone something like 'It's God will' he's just reassuring and softening his pain. Psychologists do it with other words but it's the same.
There is also a theory that says that scientists went too far with medication and life expectancy exceeds what our bodies can take, our cells just get ill. When life expectancy was about 40 years old there are no known cases of cancer. No Pharaoh was ever found with cancer. Sure there were different diseases though.
All I can see is you picking on known easy debatable phrases Christians use.

Misj', thanks for stepping in. It's nice to have a clear mind around.

Tuomas, I agree.

EDIT: Miguel, I can't see bitterness in the posts and no insults either..
Really? You don't?

KhrisMUC, please be serious, you're smarter than that. God's plan is very simple but I will not bother to tell you about it.

There are very different ways to live a life. I chose not to mock what others believe.
All I could see from the recent posts is that Andail,Babar and LimpingFish are being adults about it.
Vince, you're just being mean.

There are some confused people around this thread that I want to speak to,
if a child is raised into a religion, no mater what that may be, doesn't mean the grown man will follow it. Actually, during teenage years (who many of you haven't overcome yet) the same individuals tend to rebel against it. The grown man, and I mean the man that is responsible for others, will then chose what to believe. This is logical.
And please stop talking like you're living in the desert and you had to follow this weird cults since you were born!
You don't, you live in a modern world society! Now, learn how to be nice to others!

#1768
Actually I'd love to wear pink speedos and die my hair blonde...But I can't, I'm married!

Vince, I agree that I'll never change one's mind over the internet nor was my first post intended to. As for bitterness and the choice of words when discussing something that may be relevant to somebody, than yes, I rephrase that some members do not follow the simple rules of education.
For example, I carefully read what you said about the American wealth system and I think it is, at most points, plain cruel to the average American. It's odd that such a developed country doesn't take care of their own. Even medication is only about money making over there.
Now, what I wrote and believe may not sound quite nice to an American. Imagine if I did lower the tone and went  about American f..... hypocrisy over the rest of the world and  so on?
See where I want to get? People put their fingers on the keyboard and they just spell it out without conscience.

I guess you're right Andail and I should have known better. Anyway, I was the one to start this thread and raise the controversy every time I could. The plan was to get people talking but I only got people blaming it on the Church, as always  :(

I knew you're thoughts from previous threads, but it seams that you're the only one to step out every time. It's a shame, really.
I feel sad about all this certainties that most forum members have, in their assumption that they don't need God they become bitter in their words, often mixed with ugly words that in no way rises their charismatic web persona.

Star Wars?
Maybe I'm being too serious about this thread. And that wasn't what I intended.
Fair enough, looks like I'm the only Christian around the forums.
Better than being the only gay in the village!

MrColossal, I didn't want to put words in your mouth but I understood it that way and yes I was talking about the Catholic Church. It sure has been involved on some hard to explain shameful cases related to child abuse, money laundering and other. I can't deny facts nor I will. But again, (and now I will sound cheesy as someone mentioned but maybe I'm just not cool) Jesus was the first to rebel against stupid practices on temples, and God did punish men that wrongly tried to "play" God. I am the first to regret the way classic Church has not been able to compromise with the modern world. For those interested there are new Christians, simple guys that work, have families, condemn paedophiles, and even try to make adventure games.

Natcho, they (evidences) are.

Tuomas: It reminds me of a small episode of my childhood:
           I was attending Christian classes (don't know how to call it) when I was about 8/9 years old and this gentle Nun was explaining us kids that God condemned killing others. Something we all knew, God didn't have to tell us that, except for the bad guys on cowboy movies. Even the bad guys? Confusing.
           Some lessons later, I was asked to step up and explain why men should not kill. Well, I must say I was a bright boy back then and watched a lot of TV. National Geographic! So my little brain came out with something like, "We should not kill to preserve the human race from extinction!". Now she was confused!
           I don't know, Tuomas, but that Nun and the others were always very soft paced on teaching, and aware that TV existed, very carefully joining both worlds. The classic teachings and the modern world.
          I grew up, did my thing, and ended up deciding for myself in what to believe.

KhrisMUC, yet I don't see people fighting over unicorns. You stopped believing but others didn't, and the seed was planted in you, you just have to let it grow again. If someday you'll need Him. He'll listen to you.
       How cheesy was that?

MrColossal, men run the Church, not God.
     As for putting thoughts into your head, It's scientifically proven I can't do that from a computer in Portugal.

Mr. Matti, I guess the same answer applies.

Here's something that may help:

#1774
Dear Mr.Colossal, Nacho and MrMatti:
    the absolutist way you are dealing with this issue is the trademark of some that not only condemn the belief in God, but the respect for belief in God.

    Here's what I think, you might say that because science can explain just about everything but not quite, it's wrong to believe in God. We can also say it's wrong to believe in unicorns, Thor, Jupiter and the likes. Isn't it all the same?
    Well there always has been things that at some point people believed, and things that nobody believed.
    The question here is why is it up to you to disprove what people believe?
    In case you don't know atheism is as old as any religion known to man, and at a given time it was a cult with its own followers.

    Science is in its essence is the quest for eliminating data that at some point can have a meaning or value but can always be proven wrong later on.
    Science also reached the conclusion that the probability of God's existence is near zero. But so is Venus or Jupiter, so why are you so disrespectful to God?

Jared, but right and wrong is a notion that only the society you live in can provide. And it may change considerably according to the culture of the people involved. In some extreme antagonist cases incest is common procedure while it may lead to death sentence in others.
What IS innate is humanity belief in God(s).
Maybe in 100 years time the Catholic Church will be nothing but some ridiculous cult, absorbed by science evolution and technology, but so far, and we have come very far, 2000 years later I can't find a better organization to deal with humanity need of believing.

Welcome Tyr.
Don't get discouraged, but I suggest you dive into some manuals and tutorials.
Use the beginners thread if you couldn't find solutions in the AGS manual.
Maybe for more general issues you can use the general discussion thread.

Another great conclusion:

  People that think morals are derived from the Bible are fucking morons.

  Even Borat would have second thoughts about that phrase.

Very nice. I like.

Jared, I'm touched by your deep thoughts. Maybe it's because it's winter over there?

A twist into the plot:

     - there's no time machine or quantum leaps;
     - the person by the lever is male;
     - the six persons on the track are the last one alive plus the guy on the lever;
     - Hitler, (the stupid guy collecting flowers unaware of the train coming even with Seal singing followed by a chorus by Gandhi and Joe Pesci)  is the lever man's brother;
     - your character is The Lever Guy!!!;
     - type help for Help, (S)outh,(N)orth,(E)ast,(W)est,(L)ook,(ESC) to call Larry Vales;

I must say I'm very happy with the way this turned out. We are talking, ranting, joking and expressing our thoughts.

Discordance, I think chess puts everything in a logical way doesn't it? I mean, we play to win and to eliminate the opponent, like  soldiers. We win, no moral attached. Karpov would not sacrifice any of his army if it wasn't a strategic move. LimpingFish, however remind us that humans do sacrifice their lives for the lives of other with no reward other than their life.

Tuomas, what can I say? I've never thought of my laptop that way. Nice essay about sex though.

Conclusion: We are all selfish bastards that don't give a shit about people dying (depending on the distance it happens)
