Babar, I'm not. Maybe you didn't read all the posts.
...
Because there is a connection, right?

We invented morality, humanity is a different thing, it's in us. It's US.
That's why you would cross the Sahara to find your son but stand still, powerless, watching that train full of babies crash into a wall.
That's why you would warn Hitler of the train coming but leave that darn weird bunch to die. Even if Seal sings 'Kiss from a Rose' to Mother Teresa.
The key?
Who has it?

LimpingFish, that's very Christian of you. Such noble acts have an iconic figure head, his name Jesus.

RickJ, following your logic can I conclude that:
Do you mean that if I see you in Portugal and somebody is stealing your passport  and I'm talking to this cop 2 meters from where you're standing and decide not to tell, then it's not my fault that you had to stay a month in jail?
Or maybe:
I see a car moving at full speed and an old lady is crossing the road, she is deaf and I'm sure she'll be killed if the car hits her. But, why should I pull her to the side walk if it's not my problem?

RickJ, lets say you do know that Hitler will become a mass murderer, but he is your uncle and you love him.
Mr.Colossal is right, all those dilemmas turn into dust if a single person in the rail road is related to you (friend,brother,etc...). Nobody will save Gandhi and the others and let his friend die.
Even if his/her friend/family is Hitler who is about to die. A human being wouldn't kill Hitler over Seal and Joe Pesci.
So, again it is proved that humanity prevails over intellectuality. It's a bigger force.
Like God.

Same here, Ghost, good luck! :)

Okay, let's change things around:
The year is 1938, Hitler was on the cover of Time magazine (google for it, he really was) as one of Europe brightest leader. That same day of the train incident, he decides to go on to the railway and pick flowers.
You are from the future so you know what he will become (a really bad painter) and are standing next to the lever that switches directions.
The other five persons are Gandhi, Mother Teresa, Marie Curie, Joe Pesci and Seal. They all scream at you, begging you to pull the lever!
Who do you save?
Joe is calling you names beyond decency, Seal hugs Gandhi, Mother Teresa prays for your sins. Nobody notices Marie Curie.
Who deserves to live?
Is it really that simple to choose?

Hi Nacho, I knew you would be interested in this ;),
anyway I wouldn't say boring but I think General Discussion this days means talking about gadgets, cpu's and the sort, it's not a bad thing, but I just miss the good old angry discussions about whatever is going on in the world.
Score:
Paper Carnival gave the most enthusiastic reply ever on this subjects! Imagine if this was a serious thread!
Akatosh brought some official FBI info into this, so anyone try to beat that!
Ryan, many believers, when their apologetic arsenal loses steam and they begin to sense the futility of arguing in defence of their commitment to the arbitrary, will often retort that the non-believer makes himself to be God. Got that? I didn't!
Creed Malay, you're being too serious about this and my answer is: there's always a consequence of one's actions and the only duty we are meant to accomplish is do the best we can.
Domino, cut down on that V, man!

Buckethead: C'mon, you can do better than that!
KhrisMUC: That's more like it! Now you really pissed somebody we all know who he is!

Hi guys and girls!
Why doesn't anyone comes around releasing harsh, polemic thoughts on the Vatican, the Hammas or B. Obama?
Is it because it's a beautiful day outside and we just don't care?
Have the polemic issues ended and we didn't even see it?
Was it the sun eclipse?
Are we more prone to think about it and care when the temperature is lower?
Do we only think about sex when it's hot?

Well, tell me what you think!
#1790
I'm sorry man. I feel very stupid now ;D
Thanks! I'll keep on playing and tell you what I think of it.
Sorry again.

Well, I was liking the mood of the game with the cool music and all but some thing's wrong with giving the prescription to the old man. Check your cursor hotspot.

Just to let you know I added 2 more screen shots on the beginning of this thread.
Location 1,2 and 3 are being tested.
Location 4 is almost done but still has a lot of flaws.
Hope to have this game out by the end of this summer.

General Discussion / Re: firefox issues

I left the forums yesterday for a while and when I came back I wasn't logged in. I would normally still be logged. That and the strange letter formatting that nobody believed me when I mentioned makes firefox a bit weird this days.

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.0.11) Gecko/2009060215 Firefox/3.0.11

I'm using XP as well

Although I agree with you Layabout, about Braid not being an adventure,
I have to say that in some cases the story/plot of an adventure game can keep a player glued to the screen and the puzzles are just in the way, stalling time.
When playing the MI series (all of them) I remember clicking everything just to ear something funny by Guybrush. Gabriel Knight's 3rd instalment did the same, the story and characters were very mature and had a relation between them. In that case, the Sidney  puzzles (a computer used to solve/investigate stuff) although hard, were interesting and logical.
In the old days what I really wanted to see was the next room and its graphics, the colours, the mood. Every time a puzzle showed up I just went on with it, specially the KQ puzzles were you'd find rings under trees and swords lying around for no reason. You just had to search for a suitable place to use them and puzzle solved.

So, to conclude, I value story/characters more than puzzles. It's only my opinion but since the original thread is a research project then I hope it counts for something.

Hi, Just played a bit of AvatarSD and it looks pretty cool so far.
There are some glitches but it's only a beta and I used to play Saboteur on the ZX, so glitches are fine to me ;D
I'm joking, the interface works pretty well and smooth.
Why do opponents have cool and devastating powers and all I got was some weird short thing?
Ahhh, forget what I said, I have to combine keys, okay!
Anyway with the kicking and yelling and "Arghhh!" sound FX added I think you've got something really cool here.
I'd love to see this kind of action mixed with a conventional adventure, why not?
Well, great job.
Can't wait to see it completed.

ProgZmax, I do believe people here 'like' out of date as it was, but want to make it in a different way.
I shouldn't have to explain myself that my comment was a joke as it was pretty clear.
And I also belong to this forums.

KhrisMUC, I am not an experienced coder so I do have more code scattered on the global script when regarding inventory, it is MY problem anyway.

Completed Game Announcements / Re: Heed

Wow! Another game by Ben!!!
I'm downloading it! Can't wait to try it out!
--------------------------------------------------------------
I'm loving the game Ben, it's different in a good way and I'm already stuck on the 3 statue puzzle ;D
Graphics are really beautiful and  considering the low res it was made it's a master piece!
I also like the concept and the philosophical approach works well with the atmosphere.
The music gets a bit in my head, not that its bad, I think you could have it fade and unfade.
Well, great job!

#1798
Braid has nothing to do with a conventional adventure game. It's a platform game like Mario that allows you to reverse actions, that's it. Nice graphics though.

[*takes cover where ghost is and tells him that the coast is clear*]

I have thousands of code on the global script because of inventory_otherclick functions. It would really simplify my work. And I think it's something game makers will use more and more.
Right-click to cycle verbs is so out of date, man!
#1800
Yeah, I think you made a good point there. Sam & Max already adopted the chapter style releases and others will.

One thing I personally believe (and like) that adds to "hooking" players to the genre is the possibility to discover other countries and cultures, like a tour around a real place that most people don't have the chance to visit. The examples are vast, Gabriel Knight took me on a tour to New Orleans and Munich (was it Munich? I know it was German) and a small village in France, I  visited Venice with Indy and the New Mexico desert with George, and so on, and so on.
Even Grundislav made us travel to Greece and the Vatican, and that is something I treasure when I'm given experiences like that.
It's a bit like reading a book, you kind of absorb the locations like you've been there.
This is something that only adventure games can give us, together with a good mystery plot and friendly characters, the time to experience something with...Time.
