For some reason I LOL'd heartily at that Track and Field screenshot.

Seeing as cool projects on Kickstarter appear all the time, I thought it'd be neat to have one thread for all interesting kickstarters we spot. Both so they're all together and that no one has to hesitate and ponder starting a thread just to share one. (But not to discourage actual authors from starting threads about their campaigns if they want) If you don't think it's a such a good idea, well then may the mods just rename this thread into Her Majesty's SPIFFING kickstarter because that's what I wanted to share right now anyway.

So, uh, yeah, Her Majesty's SPIFFING Kickstarter. I found the humour in the pitch video very charming, and having another cute 3D adventure game can't hurt I reckon. Thoughts?

The Pawn by Magnetic Scrolls.

Here's the next:

To keep things fresh and fun, the dialogue is not how it appears in the game at all, it was altered by me in an image editing program.

It's not Heart of Alien is it?

OSD fully compensates for the small file size with the size of his sword.

You fools! Clearly Ben intended for the series and the universe, and especially the canon to be taken with utmost seriousness and preserved with maximum care, making sure there are no contradictions or discrepancies in the lore.

edit: Also since adventuregamestudio.co.uk is dead, it'd be neat if you eventually fixed the links that lead there (both here and on the site).

I second Ghost.

I think adding Memoria and maybe more Deponia games would've benefited them a lot long term, but even as it is, it's a steal.

Relevant: IndieCity is pretty much back to being alive. That pushes me again towards wanting to support them instead of developing an own solution.

Even more than the graphics, I've got to admire your won't-stop-till-it's-done attitude despite the long duration and many setbacks.  Keep up the good fight, brother!
Fully agree. Even though I laughed heartily when the third kickstarter went up, I was and am really glad it did. I haven't lost a single bit of fondness for the game and I'm very happy it's finally happening. And I wish more developers had that perseverance. I think you're setting a good example here.

General Discussion / backloggery.com

Seeing as there are many people here who are really into games, often to an impressive extent (Name the Game players, I'm looking at you :-* ), I thought it'd be appropriate to share this lovely site with you. The Backloggery is a site that lets you maintain a simple yet effective database of your game collection with a focus on keeping track on how much progress you've made in the games and encouraging you to finish as many of them as possible.

I've been using it over a year now and I'm very happy with it. You can check out my profile if you want. Personally I'm not that much of a completionist but as a person who is always in never-ending search for interesting games I found it really suitable for keeping track of all the games I meant to check out, properly play and/or actually finish. And well, leaving mini-reviews and rating games is also nice. As is obsessively updating it every 5 seconds with every tiniest detail of your progress. Ratings are useful even when they're absent, as if the game isn't rated yet, I know I haven't played it enough. It's also nice in the sense now if somebody asks me for game recommendations, I can just be a lazy bastard and link them to the games rated 5 and 4 stars on my backloggery. Although, right now the games I have there are only my actual lifelong backlog and the stuff I finished from it during that year. But if I ever make it through a critical portion of my backlog I'll sure enjoy inputting all the games I have ever finished in there. Yes, I'm a sad person!

So yeah, I'd be happy to hear what people think about it. If somebody decides to register, please do link your profiles so I can hurt your feelings by not deeming you worthy of adding. :)

Paranoid or something? (roll)
Actually, this sort of thing is easily demonstrable common knowledge.

It really sounds like you've complicated things unnecessarily. So your demo isn't ready for public demonstration yet, and your solution for that is... manipulating people into not wanting to download it?.. Why not just polish the demo and make it presentable enough? Perhaps, by making it shorter. You're probably right in that the demo will be the face of your game but I think you're approaching it from the wrong end. Because the way I see it, usually you want as many people as possible to play your demo. People are terrible at judging unfinished things, but you gotta draw a line somewhere and just accept that, because if your demo is generally nice and playable, hopefully the impact will mostly be good.

So why are you doing it this way? Are you running out of time and money?

I fail to see their fault there. Judging by the available information, they did what they were asked to do, fair and square. They were ditched because of doubts, estimations and prognoses of the leaders of the project, based on what they did in their own time. Not to mention it was somehow only an issue after they'd done what was asked of them. You can estimate their capabilities all day long, but there is no fault here to be seen. Not finishing a game isn't a crime, every developer has unfinished games. I have no reason to expect them to be particularly successful but I'd hate them to get a shadow cast on them by Al Lowe with his money-milking shitty remake no one needed.

David Ostman, cheers for posting it.

...and boo for being forced to promote the kickstarter to check out the demo. I'd gladly do so voluntarily, but now I lost any desire to do either. >_>
