Messages - qptain Nemo

I'm quite curious to see it. So Blonde's scenario and design were a trainwreck, but the writing and characters were very cute and pleasing and Morgane was exactly the most sympathetic character.

Lol, i can't believe I'm the only one noticing that, but the Naked and the Ninja link is wrong.
Wait, that's not all, the archive for Scourge of the underworld DX actually contains Mighty Pirate. And the archive linked for Mighty Pirate contains OSD: The RPG and 04 is in turn actually Pirates on the poopdeck. >.< Dude, you messed up!

Nooo! Isometric things suck compared to non-isometric things! Especially when it's pixel art. :-\
Spoiler
... yeah, yeah, arguably :| Whatever, you people who don't like exactly what i like!

You didn't really ask about it, but I think a combat system should come with the a corresponding degree of freedom and not just be a gimmick that appears sometimes. Blade Runner and Harvester had combat inserted in a very simple, straightforward almost brutal way, which also allowed a considerable degree of freedom of who to be violent to at times and I loved it.

Though something turn-based would most likely work too.

Googling for "engine for making rpg" gave me among others these links:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RPG_creation_software
http://rmlist.rpgsource.net/
http://rpgdx.net/showcategory.php?cat=6
I have no experience with any of the engines mentioned there, so don't ask me about 'em, but maybe you'll salvage something useful from there.

Anachronox is still pretty. :| And in fact it's prettier than most modern games. Because the count of polygons defines beauty much much less then attention to detail and actual sense and talent of making beautiful things. And that's not even touching the subject of how the life is blown into these models by characterization and emotion of their roles...
Saying that it's far "too ugly to be playable" just makes me wonder what the hell are you doing on AGS forums where most of games have amateur drawings for graphics and not Crysis-level graphics. Surely that's not satisfactory for you either? Oh and hey, have you seen your own game? That doesn't look like 2011 game, man. Where are all the shaders?

Sorry, say that I'm overreacting all you like, but I can't take such crude insults to the game that I consider the very pinnacle of gamemaking.

On-topic:
de-funct favourite companies: Ion Storm, Westwood studios, Legend entertainment.
alive: Revolution software, Pendulo studios

Oh man. I just love your games. And your music in them. And the design. And... and... let's just say you're one of these reasons true gamemaking isn't dead. Cheers. :)

If you have the music tracks in MIDI, you can view them with a music sequencer, many of them are able to show them as notes.

Quote from: Snarky on Wed 31/08/2011 14:26:05but wouldn't it be reasonable to think that it (and the response) could make some women who might attend or watch the event uncomfortable?
Why would it? Um, the assumption that a lot of women would have no sense of humour whatsoever and won't be for some strange reason able to enjoy a lesbian joke or at least get over it and overract instead is supposed to be in favor of women?
I was in a room with a real, not a theoretical woman, during the ceremony. She wasn't exactly disturbed.

I think Snarky placed it great. I'm definitely guilty of acting like this is a men-only club, but I'd like to think I haven't discouraged any female agser. The lesbians was just a joke to Eternally Us topic, where everyone kept posting anything but lesbians. I didn't mean to put away anyone, so next year we will feature videos. Anyhoo, I'm sorry the whole lesbian thing was just a silly farce.
You what? It was a silly joke, but it was a good, a hilarious silly joke. And you know that. This fake regret you did now because of some minimal pressure is just utterly pathetic.

My opinion of mainstream games is very low and if I'd go into details my post would just turn into a long unpleasant rant, but I'll however point a couple of important things. First is, mainstream games are very generic and miss the strangeness, the uniqueness, the personality of non-mainstream games that I appreciate very much and value very highly. Secondly, mainstream games try to please generalized audience, so even if present, attention to details is aimed at the most obvious banal and trivial things that no one will possibly miss, thus making one's journey in such game very non-personal and non-intriguing. Thirdly, mainstream games barely ever try new approaches to things and even if they do they do it so clumsily and cowardly that you almost wish they didn't even try.

On a positive note, that's exactly why I often find AGS games very refreshing and soothing. Games like The Vacuum, Technobabylon 2 and How They Found Silence made me deeply breathe out with a huge relief, knowing that there're still are honest and wise gamedesigners in the world who know what the hell they're doing and aren't afraid of doing it exactly how they see it.

And I'm curious to see how it works in first person.
Interesting! So you yourself don't think 3rd person is essential? :)

All my work is always open source (provided it's not used to create something evil).
I'll post the game files when I'm done.

Very kind of you! Appreciate it. Good luck with completing this. :)

I am! What's wrong with first person? I think in that case it's perfect for immersion.  :D

(The only thing that gave me trouble is "how to deal with the evil puppet appearing in your back when you're not looking?" -- but I think I've found a way ;-))
Well, nothing wrong in general, but for one, the original wasn't in first person and I loved it the way it was. Additionally, it's a matter of taste and perception and I usually find 3rd person games more immersive. It is of course your remake and your call to make, but as a fan of the original I'd definitely prefer to see it in third person as well. For me it'd kill quite much of "geniuine" feel, but well, it's just me. Just sharing an opinion. I appreciate your effort very much and look forward towards the final result either way.

In fact - just allow people to use your artwork for yet another remake of the game in 3rd person if somebody would want to make one. That way I won't be able to complain since if I really want I can just build another version myself and everybody will be happy.

Don't mind me while I'm quietly FUCKING ORGASMING here.

edit: You're not going to make it first person, are you? Please tell me you are not.  ::)

Akril15 (the Adventure series)
Drat -- my gender's relatively neutral appearance has been exposed! Well, this is awkward...

I guess that sort of explains why Thalia is one of the best written female leads I've seen. :)

Yes. I'm not such a little bitch as Duals though.  :=
