Thanks!
I guess it was working ok. If she wasn't in the right place Pete would tell her to get out...

Completed Game Announcements / Re:Apprentice!

Well, you know that already, your game was great!

plus points - art and animation
minus points - duration of the game

I can only fault the duration, so I'm hoping that your future projects will be longer...

You have all going for you, since you're talented and you're fast creating games ... so... MAKE MORE (adventure) GAMES (did I mention that Apprentice was too small?)!

Congrats!

Just to add my opinion and to disagree with fidodido: although your art is truly great, as everyone said, I won't say that it's the best ever seen here...! I'll say it's second to none, but there are some that are on par with yours...

In any case, your game will be a treat artwise!

Neole, my man, you make great art non-stop!

But what about games?
I know you're doing that nude beach or whatever with that striking almost-photographic (rotoscoped?) style...
Did you finish it? Do you have any more games?

Keep at it!!!

If I look at myself I'm ever more often going thru wts, even for easy games. Perhaps I'm becoming dumber or more impatient, but nowadays if I'm stuck for more than 15 minutes, I'll go right to a wt!

That's sad, really, but, yes, nowadays I prefer simpler and easier games! I'm just probably  following the tide...

I hate action sequences in adventure games. For me, you could include them IF there was an option to override them (as in the spaceship combat in Mission Critical) - I would override them every time...

Do you know where (internet site) I can get/order Conspiracies and Black Mirror (in english or french, or spanish or portuguese)?

I mean an european location, since if I order from the US, most probably than not, I'll have to pay (some 100 EUR) customs fees...

Not only are they great as everyone said, but if all of them are for the same game, it promises to be an amazing game, compelling story included ...

Make a great and long game!!!!

Edit: I'm still stunned - when is your game coming out, how's gonna be, what's it called? tell us more!

Strange!
Kediri, if Susan wasn't at the right place Pete should see her almost immediately - was that what was happening?

Hints & Tips / keptosh - where is ServaCor?
Fri 12/09/2003 11:50:44
Nice game, makes me recall BASS!

I have everything I need to go to ServaCor (I checked the WT) but I don't seem to figure out where that is?

Hints please!

Several people asked me about the inventory and general interface I used in The Uncertainty Machine. The actual scripting is nothing to write home about, in fact it's messy enough, but I put it up for download for anyone who wants to use it (and improve it).
It's pretty basic stuff, so it's no use for anyone except beginners, but in any case it's at

www.freewebs.com/ratracer/mygui.zip - it's some 800KB

(the allowed bandwidth at freewebs is pretty narrow, so it is not unexpected that the download won't be allowed from time to time)

It's not compiled, it was done in AGS 2.54 and to exit you press F1 for the default save/load/quit menu...

GUI 3 is the one that contains the inventory bar
GUI 4 is for the label that follows the cursor and displays the name of hotspot, objects, inventory items, characters...

the ocasional comments in the global script are meaninless to most, I guess, they'll be in portuguese, most of the time

IMO for your style, I'd prefer the smudginess instead of clear colours ...

Your art - especially number 1 and 3 style -  has some je ne sais quoi that makes me really, really, really want to play your game - so please make a great game to go with your art!

f9 should get you a save/restore etc menu...

(In the meantime I tested it once on a wireless keyboard and F9 didn't work... F1 did - anyone had this?)

Beldin,
I will send you a scene with only the wall of the building and only some other details to make it (A LOT) smaller and pratical to send by email. I'll remove most of it (also the forest and the grass since they were made by plugins)

I do use bumpmaps (in fact, the materials are too exagerated and complicated since as I don't exactly what to do, I keep changing and adding stuff until it's more or less ok - the scene was done so that even in a close up view of the door or the windows of the mansion it doesn't look pixelated... it's probably a beginner's error)

I'll promise to make the scene pretty small, ok?

In the meantime there's another view (made with skylight and light tracer - it looks a bit like a model)

Thanks

Thanks
And Beldin I'm not sure you would want that since the scene is already 40 MB with the mansion!

Even without the mansion is some 10MB, after optimisations.
I know there is no justification for it being so large, apart from my inneptitude (I've seen more complex scenes being a lot nimbler)...
After taking out the mansion, the tree and the grass it may be of a decent size, though...

But if you're up to it I could put it for you to download. I'd be most thankful...

#79
yeah, 3ds max.
the last one with the mansion gets a rendering time of 45 minutes (although I'm not that bothered with that since Max has a fast renderer compared with other 3d tools I used - I'm used to wait a lot to get a result) ! I also like the last one for that view (for other camera views it looks bad mainly because some modelling faults get visible )...

I started adding some more lights but, so far, no dramatic improvement... and yes, I'll start looking for tuts on outside lighting (most of the ones around are for inside lighting which supposedly is more difficult - but I clueless at both)

which one should I concentrate and try to improve?

Also, is a daylight scene too bland? (for my game it doesn't really matter which time of day it is - although it won't be a night scene... ) is it worth trying to get a more shadowy scene (at dawn or dusk) even if I will try to avoid getting into more complex lighting?
