I really can't stop coming back to your drawings once in a while... They really hit MY spot - I don't remember being that impressed in a long while (and there are some really talented guys here)...

That nazi guy is amazing - beats Pixar in my book

I really dig the colouring of the second BG! The blue on the first one hurts my eyes a little, but overall they're great

well, the yellowish one follows that principle - it has lights pointing "everywhere", but since I borrowed them from another model I understand that they feel wrong in mine - but I know you are right...

Too many lights always gets me confused, but I don't think I'll have any other solution than to look for that route

Although I'm reasonably happy with the modelling and texturing of the mansion, as usual I'm having trouble with lighting... as I am pretty bad with it, I usually keep simple - one or two lights that as far as I go without getting too much confused...

How's these? (don't mind much the shadows since those will be corrected...)

this one is wrong since the mansion is too bright

I adapted and simplified the lighting I borrowed from one of the www.vocanson.com excellent FREE models but even so...

I just threw two omni lights - will have trouble with shadows and stuff I'm sure

just one skylight light and lighttrace , tried those for the first time - trouble is the rendering is 12 minutes (instead of the 1 minute of the others) - it makes the stones look a bit plastic though

I probably arrived a bit late at this thread but...
wow - you rock, man, in all depts ...
your lores sprites are up with to Indy FOA and your 3d modeling is inspirational...
no critics whatsoever - they're perfect in my eyes...

this last one has a lot more feel to it, good improvement...

it probably still needs some twiking up in the overall composition, but to me it looks fine already...

some suggestions for the office (I'm just looking at my surrondings) :
a water machine, a fire estinguisher, a waste basket, another chair, some sheets of paper on the floor, an air conditioner machine, a plug outlet on the floor, lots of closets...
for the desk (looking at my always unclean desk):
a cell phone, coffee stains, lots of pens and pencils, a plastic cup of coffee, a stapler, a calendar, lots of yellow stickies, another calendar, a paperglue stick, an ashtray, lots of clips, and an infinite number of sheets of paper of different sizes, magazines, newspapers in a complete mess.. (yeah, I do have a large desk)... oooh, and the PC, keyboard, mouse, of course...

I would also vote for you to continue with the smudge style, although I understand too well what is to lose time in drawing...
great work, I say!

I'm sure not only the art is great but the game itself... look at all the details the picture has; it's sure to give a good gameplay.

I thought to bump up this thread.

First: sorry CUC I didn't get back to your game (in fact, I didn't played any game since) but I'll restart it...

I really think this game is a gem, pretty original and everyone with a basic italian knowledge (or knowledge of a latin language such as a portuguese, spanish, french) should give it a try, even if they understand only half of it (as I do)...

I'm usually a bit picky with dimensions of smaller things (which doesn't mean I get them right myself).
Anyway, in your case, what I mean is the height of the sidewalk and the frames of the windows are sticking out.

In any case, it's an interesting composition.

In my monitor the tarmac seems 100% pitch black, and if so it's exagerated, but it can be due to my own monitor, which I know gives a darker image than normal...

Igor, with such wonderful art you make us work hard to give some C+C...

Your work is flawless, but anyhow I'll try to be picky: the colour on the waterbottle (or whatever that think is called) being red stands out a bit, since everything has the great orange for light-blue for shadow colouring.

But I know I am trying to be picky... it probably works better that way, giving some contrast...
Besides, don't pay much attention to my opinion on this, since i know I'm bad with colours...

Also, maybe the lamp is a bit heavy looking, it could be a bit more elegant... What do I know? It's perfect!

your comments made me rethink about it and I'll probably scrap the whole deal and will try to make two distinct office interiors...

a window will be a must (and light from outside too)  and the carpet will have smaller tiling, that's for sure...

in the meantime, I've just seen (again) Batman 1 and the production design of that movie is awesome... Unfortunately, I think it's a bit hard to replicate...

thanks for your replies: now I have a direction to follow and will stop losing time with the others...

4 and 2 seem to be the "winners", which is good, since it coincides with my first impression! it's a bit strange, since they should have the same lighting (although the dirty walls are darker  than in the clean version), but since 4 is obviously darker than 2, something must be different... I have to review them...

I also have a daylight version (with the obiquous venesian blinds shadows) but I don't think it's still ready for C&C...

another question: do you think the scale is correct (ie the height of the walls correspond to the size of the desk, for instance)? it should be, since I measured from my own place (which is supposed to have a slight larger height than average), but to mind it doesn't feel right, it feels than the ceiling is just above a characters head - although he would have to be more then 3 m tall!

BTW: I did it in 3ds Max... Unfortunately I went yesterday for a peek at Renderosity.com galleries, and some of the works there really make me feel worthless and ignorant in 3d (which I am...), especially in what concernes composition, lighting and camera angles...

I quite like the expression of the guy ...
You did a good job on him, especially considering the use of lores...

I don't know if that's your purpose, but with an appropriate walking animation it could have a very funny mood...

(I'm thinking of the Satan game, which was pretty small, but that character was just hilariously perfect!)

since it's a stylised hand, I don't think there's no need for detailing as tendons or hand lines "stiking" out.

However, I feel that the width of the hand would fit a fifth finger, or else the hand could be a bit thinner...
Also, the back of the hand is IMO too flat, it should have a little bulge...

Anyway, shows promise!!!

I'm trying to have a decent lighting for the scene(s) below... It's supposed to be at dusk or at night, so interior lights are on (and no sunshine from outside)...
The first 3 pics are more clean; I did them in earlier stages (but now, I am not sure if they aren't better like that).... The other 4 are supposed to translate better that this is a room whose maintenance stopped some 10 years ago...

Don't mind much the textures (specially those of the desks) since what I am trying now is to have a decent lighting (more or less belieavable and ADEQUATE for a game background)

I'm only showing the best of the bunch (I tried more than 20 different light configurations) and I really need your opinnion and critics since, after all so many experiments, I don't know what to think of them anymore...

1. I really don't like this one

2. Pretty much the same as the first, but with more lights which I think makes it better....

3. I didn't like it at first, but now - one week after doing it - it probably is better than most...

4. The wall textures are probably a bit exagerated... is it too dark?

5. this one really stinks IMO

6. will this become even worse whence I put more objects in the scene?

7. is it too dramatic and exagerated ? or is it  acceptable in a game?

Please tell me which one - concerning the lights (everything else is to have more work into it) - the best, or if they all are hopeless...

it's good work, even if you did it with the help of a tut.
looks good the apple!
are you going to go the 3dsmax way for creating adventure games?
