Mabye one day a polotician will get the idea "Hmm....maybe I shouldn't lie and cheat because I'll loose my job if I do" and it will start a new trend. Who knows.

So they're worried about losing this job they have for 8 years max anyway, when they can get millions from corporate favors they gave away during a single term? loL politisians are dum.

shbaz: How much did it cost you to build that combo?

The transformers, speaker, and the box + chassis are usually the most expensive items. I bought the output transformer on eBay for $35 (total), power transformer was salvaged from an old piece of army equipment along with a bunch of sockets, tubes, and mounting hardware (free - circa 1958 - cold war), the speaker was a $40 Jensen one from tubesandmore.com, and the box and chassis came from a Kustom amp my friend blew up and ripped the tolex off of. I bought it for $10. Add about $40 for all of the capacitors, switches, the light, resistors and wire from Mouser.com.. Add $5 for two of the power tubes I bought from eBay and it costed about $125 and loads of my time. Most DIY projects can cost much more (click AX84 link below to see) but I had some good luck with the $10 box, the free cold war thingy and eBay.

QuoteHeh.. Just yesterday I was looking at used Warmoth guitar parts on ebay. When I get some money saved up I want to build my own guitar-- something I know almost nothing about. I figure I can start with cheap stuff to learn the basics, and from there try and build something nicer..

Nobody will notice I suck if I have a cool guitar-- RIGHT?

I wanted to do this a while back too but never got around to it. Building your own neck is a huge job because you have to precisely measure the fret lengths (obtained through a formula that inputs the distance between nut and bridge) and make a channel for the truss rod etc. If you really want to do it though - This guy is the freaking king of DIY audio stuff and he's done it. You can buy new (unused) necks on eBay as well as bodies (but make sure the neck will fit into the socket!). Check out Ampage.org; they have a section for guitar guys. I always wanted to do it all or nothing though, because guitars are pretty cheap to buy and mod anyway.

I think a better amp makes a cheap guitar sound better than a better guitar would make a cheap amp sound though.. Tube amps really are a huge leap from any SS equipment (even tube emulating stuff) and they'll hide a $100 squire strat as if it were an original 50's Fender.

Oh yeah.. heh.. I just thought of another eBay story. That guy John Tirone that I linked above once posted on the Ampage forums that someone had ripped his website and was selling it for $10 on eBay. The ensuing anger from the Ampage community ended up finding the perpetrator's name, telephone number, home address, Church (where he was a youth minister) and one guy who lived nearby even offered to beat him up for John. John refused because he was a devout Christian man, and instead e-mailed the pastor of the church. He talked with the guy about it, and e-mailed back saying that his excuse was that he was selling the time he took to find the information, not the information. I think he lost his title of youth pastor, but he might still be selling the stuff on eBay now.

I always thought it was interesting how when I lived in Venezuela, there were absolutely no piracy controls. In fact, the first legal piece of sofware I ever saw being sold there was like in 1996 (I specifically remember Quake, and Full Throttle).

I've been told that there are pirated music, movies and software sold on-base (American Military bases) in Iraq and elsewhere. That is supposed to be legally American soil (even if temporary), but it seems like many foreign places have uninhibited pirating (even if the foreign place is American). Probably because of the reason you mentioned and I hinted at, poverty. Just look how much lower the number is in North America.. I mean wow. Even though most people here have the internet with File Sharing freely available.

Is every American stupid then?...okay, what about people who are visiting America, are they stupid? What about..er...if you were born in America, but you live somewhere else now. Like...say your Father is American but your Mother is Irish. Are you only half stupid, or does the USA blood override a less stupid nationality? What if.... *gets whacked over the head with a 2 by 4 and dragged out the door*

You're stupid.  :P

Vacuum tubes. Loads of them.

This is totally unrelated to AGS or games at all, but it's one of my favorite hobbies.

This is a little less than half of my tubes:

Here is my first amplifier:

http://img32.photobucket.com/albums/v96/shbazjinkens/amp/CamPic9.jpg

I hand tooled the leather and bought the box from a friend who had ripped off the vinyl.. I thought it gave it a nice vintage look and would look good with leather so I left it that way. A guy at my dorm asked me why I played a 50 year old amp, when in fact it was less than a year old then.

Here is my current project amplifier (building for a friend):

I'm addicted. I've spent years reading about building this stuff. I know about tone, distortion, effects, and what capacitors affect the signal most preferably.

How does this relate to eBay? Well, this stuff is ancient news now. All of the companies that manufacture vacuum tubes (all 3-6 of them) are in foreign countries and most are crap, so I bought old but unused tubes on eBay (all of the ones in the first pic are from there). I've also bought other audio stuff (speakers, transformers, etc).

In conclusion, I love eBay because it allows me to do wonderful things with audio (like the above) at low prices. It has saved me hundreds of dollars (provided I use all of that stuff  :D).

But knowing American sources, Worldwide could mean the United States of America and sometimes part of canada (the non Quebec section)

You think American's are such ignorant fools and yet you make that statement without reading the article. I just assume because the article gives statistics for each continent.

You are from America or Canada aren't you? I mean, I don't want to look like I associate with people from outside of this part of the continent or I might defy expectations. There are places outside of this continent right? I mean, just trying to be sure. I don't really know because I'm such a stupid American.

General Discussion / 33% of Software Pirated
Thu 08/07/2004 06:51:30
This reminds me of the time that someone here offered to sell me 3ds Max for $50.

http://www.upi.com/view.cfm?StoryID=20040707-111203-6292r

I don't see how they can call that a loss.. note that the percentage of money "lost" (50%) is a lot higher than the percentage of software pirated, which tells me that the software that is pirated is largely overpriced. It especially isn't going to sell in some of the regions where piracy is the highest, coincidentally also where economies wouldn't allow much of it to be purchased.

So, my conclusion is that while this is a shocking amount of software piracy, it's really embellished as to how much these companies are losing.

Clowns >_< They scare me. Every since some big, hairy foreign guy in slimey make-up came up to me at a circus when I was a little kid... *shiver*

"If you should die before you wake..."

... and you made a circus game why?? Confronting your fears, perhaps?

There's too much hate in this thread. Can't we just remember the good times when we get mad at someone?

QuoteAlso, let's counter this pink stupidity and make a lesbian seagull game. Who's in for a lesbian seagull game? I have invented the main character, her name is Dolphin and she's strong. Her mother was an amazonian warrior. Seagull. And amazonian warrior-seagull. Her lesbian lover was killed in a tragic accident involving a cat and some teeth. Dolphin sets out to avenge her lovers death, armed only with her sexuality and also some wings, and this thing the RSPCA clipped around her neck. Speaking of which, she's also being hunted by the RSPCA, who want to investigate her sexuality mercilessly. With other bigger, LESBIANERER seagulls, and also a Gay Hawk.

For Chris Sake? Does EVERYONE hate religion?

Not when it's worshipping Jesus Chris, creator of AGS and the world (map).  ;)

Most people don't really watch TV on the Fourth. It's fireworks and BBQs, mostly. I didn't really watch TV, but I think ABC had a show about the U.S. Military or something, I don't know, I missed it.

Yeah, I watched TV for the first time in over a week today. When I was in school I used to be stuck in the house all of the time because we lived out in the country and I couldn't drive, there would be old movies, fireworks, and infomercials on public TV so I'd watch the good movies and blow things up in between. On Satellite it's not so much a problem, because there are specialized channels for everything. We were too poor for satellite at the time though.

Don't get me wrong, though. I'm not trying to "force my beliefs on you". I'm merely presenting possibilities for you to consider. I want to let you come to your own conclusion whether God exists or not, but you must be open-minded enough to consider what I say.

Everyone has a God, by the way. Your God could be not believing in God -- atheism. That's your religion.

I'm glad for you that you are content with your beliefs. So you're completely happy? Completely at peace?

Haha, so my god is having no god? Exactly how do you come by that logic? I never did really understand that. The problem is that you have little or no understanding of exactly what science is and how it works. It isn't a belief system, and scientists don't believe in every theory there is. They're theories, which have possibilities of being true, and if they are proven beyond a doubt then they cease to be theories. They say, "How did this happen? Well maybe it was this.. or this.."

The very definition of atheism is the lack of belief in a deity. ANY diety. That means no god whatsoever, no worshipping satan, no worshipping god.

I don't have a credit card either, so I guess my credit card is not having a credit card.

It's hilarious. On Canadian TV Stations on July 1st (Canada Day), we have things on John A. MacDonald, and the forming of Canada. History stuff. Yet on American Channels on July 4th, they show Independance Day (You know, with Will Smith).

In all honesty... I kinda liked the history stuff better.

We have those other channels you probably don't watch that show nothing but history year round. Mostly it's not Will Smith movies so much as it is infomercials and fireworks on major networks.

In states where fireworks are legal (mine at least) people are popping fireworks everywhere, even artillery shells.. I was hurrying like hell at the gas station.

If that's your opinion, then you don't have to join or visit there, shbaz.

Which begs the question, how exactly does one visit there anyway? There's still no link and it really isn't on the front page of his website..

Aye. People set up their own forums all the time. In fact, many AGSers have their own forums. Gaspop Software (Pleugherburg) have their own. So does Tierra (KQ 1 + 2 remakes). Besides, it's good to visit other forums than AGS.

Sorry, I just don't think that applies here. There's nothing at his site that screams, "Discuss me!"
