OK, so Barney strangled the lover with the rope he was going to use to hang himself, but was not significantly injured in the process. Nor was he poisoned or die from some kind of gas inhalation.

Did Barney trip over the body and hit his head?
Had the lover somehow caused a fire to start that burned Barney to death?
Did Barney drown?

(That last one's a long shot, but maybe he fell in the bath? ;))

Case #65

In the home of Barney and Greta we find two dead bodies and a note on the floor.
What happened here?

Is the note a suicide note?
Was the note written before the two people died?
Are either of the dead bodies the victims of murder?
Did Barney write the note?
Is jealousy involved?
Did the non-Greta dead person kill Barney?
Did Barney kill the non-Greta person?
Is Greta still alive?
Did Barney really intend to kill himself?
Were Barney and Greta a couple?
Is the unknown victim an adult?
Did the unknown victim kill Barney?
Was the second victim Greta's lover?
Did Barney think the second victim was Greta's lover?
Did Greta have a lover?
Did Barney kill the other victim deliberately?
Were both bodies found in the same room?
Was either victim strangled? Technically, yes.
Was Barney planning to hang himself?
Was the other victim strangled with a rope?
Was an object used to kill the lover? (See above.)
Was the lover fully dressed?
Did the lover come home looking for Greta?
Did he surprise Barney during his suicide?
Is Barney's and Greta's home a house?
Did Barney hang the lover?

NO
Is Greta one of the dead bodies?
Did Greta write the note?
Is the second victim female?
Did Barney kill Greta?
Did Greta kill Barney?
Did either of the dead people actually commit suicide?
Did Barney write the suicide note so that people would think it had been written by Greta?
Did Greta write the suicide note so that people would think it had been written by Barney?
Did the non-Greta dead person write the suicide note to appear to be from either Barney or Greta?
Did either Barney of Greta write the suicide note to appear to be from the non-Greta dead person?
Does Greta know what really happened?
Were Barney and non-Greta lovers?
Did Barney make a promise to leave Greta?
Did Barney and the second victim die the same way?
Does Greta benefit from their deaths?
Is there a fourth person involved?
Did the killer force Barney to write the note?
Did Greta announce to leave Barney?
Was Greta at home when the two victims died?
Was the second victim's death caused by the first person's death ?(Regardless of who died first) A bit unsure what you mean here.
Was Barney's plan to kill Greta instead of the other victim?
Did Barney AND the other person both poison a meal they were sharing? (Great suggestion, though.)
Was the second victim there to kill Barney?
Did Barney and the second victim die in a duel ?
Did the other victim kill Barney deliberately?
Was either victim stabbed?
Did Barney invite the lover for a "chat"?

Every line in Mandle's solution.
Did Barney die BEFORE the other victim died?
Was Barney strangled?
Was one of the deaths caused by poison?
Was one of the deaths caused by a gunshot?
Was one of the deaths caused by gas?
Is Barney one of a pair of conjoined twins?
Was Barney hit over the head with a heavy object?
Did the victim get strangled by hand, i.e. manually?
When Barney killed the other victim (which should be clear), was he already
so badly injured that he knew he would die?
Was an object used to kill Barney? (Not directly, at least.)
Did Barney surprise the lover? (has in he come early home and found him there?)
Was the lover wearing only underwear?
Is Barney's and Greta's home an apartment?
Is it a boat/ship?
Did Barney trip over the body and hit his head? (No, but close)
Had the lover somehow caused a fire to start that burned Barney to death?
Did Barney drown?
Did Barney wrap loops of the rope around the lover's neck and then jump off the chair, hanging himself and choking the lover to death at the same time with his own hanging body weight?
Did the ceiling collapse on Barney?
Did the lover strive to make something collapse or fall on Barney?
Was the lover overweight?

IRRELEVANT OR CANNOT BE ANSWERED THE WAY THE QUESTION IS POSED
Are Barney and Greta still alive?
Were the two victims related to each other?
Did they look like each other ?
Did the dead body fall on Barney and trap him somehow? (Perhaps, but Barney was already dead by then.)

You sum it up almost correct!

Did Barney wrap loops of the rope around the lover's neck and then jump off the chair, hanging himself and choking the lover to death at the same time with his own hanging body weight?

No, but I wish I had thought of that! That's an even better solution than the correct one.

But I can't quite work out that last little bit. ???

Did the dead body fall on Barney and trap him somehow?

heltenjon

You are so very close to the solution! I'll nudge a bit:

Did the non-Greta dead person kill Barney?

Did Barney trip over the body and hit his head? (No, but close)
Was an object used to kill Barney? (Not directly, at least.)
Did the other victim kill Barney deliberately?

Mandle

Did Barney hang the lover?
Did the ceiling collapse on Barney?
Did the lover strive to make something collapse or fall on Barney?
Was the lover overweight?

heltenjon

Mandle

Did the lover somehow manage to kill Barney while they, themself, were hanging?

Yes!

Mandle

Did the hanging lover kick Barney?
Did Barney fall onto an object that killed him?
Did the hanging lover use their legs to strangle Barney?
Did the hanging lover somehow swing into Barney, hitting him with their body?

(nod) (nod) (nod) Solved (nod) (nod) (nod)

Barney was unhappy when he found out that Greta was having an affair, and he decided to end it all. He wrote a suicide note and made the rope ready to hang himself. Then, all of a sudden, Greta's lover walked in. The balls of this guy! In a rage, Barney attacked him. With surprise and adrenaline on his side, Barney managed to subdue the loverboy, forcing his head into the noose and hoisting him up. Like a one-man lynch mob, he made sure that swift justice was served. The man was struggling wildly, kicking in the air. A random kick hit Barney in the head, sending him right into the edge of a table. And there they were, two dead men for Greta to discover when she came home.

Over to the next one with a case ready!

Was the investigator an aviation crash scene investigator? (NTSB or similar)

NO
Was Ben a passenger on a different kind of transport?
Was the plane a commercial airliner? (Boeing 747, Airbus A300, etc.)

Yup, round over.  (laugh)

Wow, a lightning round! All those years of watching Air Crash Investigation have finally paid off!

I don't have any ideas for another case so feel free to post another!

Can anybody start a new case, or is it always whoever solved the previous one? I might have something but I think I'd rather polish it up a bit before throwing it out there...

It's anyone really, unless the winner specifically reserves the right I suppose.
