I would have purchased this game, and laughed several times while playing. While it was funny, as any SQ game should be, it was balanced with a solid sci-fi plot and it did a great job of exploring the relationship between roger and his future wife.
The animations were lively and interesting. The music was solid and had some good epic tracks.
How well does this fit into the SQ cannon? I think it does a great job, and I preferred it to SQ 6 and would love to play more.
It does lean towards the more-serious tone of SQ5, rather than the more overtly comical SQ6-vibe.. and wow, it just really works!
The animation is superb, up to professional standards, and the backgrounds and sprites are very good as well. Roger is the Roger we know and love, the Space Quest humor is there, but Incinerations ups one the original games and delivers a serious, but way better developed plot, with lots of twists and much deeper characters than the franchise ever delivered. Maybe because the plot is serious and "believable" (if you accept sci-fi standards), it could have fare as well or even better as an original intellectual property.
The puzzles, while numerous, are on the easier side. This isn't necessarily bad for me, as my busy life only leaves a few hours a week for gaming. Just sit back and enjoy the story, because there's a lot of it both in game and in cutscenes.
If the Two Guys from Andromeda deliver a game of this quality in their ongoing Kickstarter campaign, it will be money well spent.
One thing that could be improved is the compression quality of the videos. The game is already large enough that a few dozen more megabytes wouldn't have deterred the players, but it would have improved the image quality substantially
I love the characters, the humour and the settings. You can tell that this game has been a labor of love for all involved in its creation. I can draw so many comparisons with the playing style of the official series. You've got funny deaths (with an improved auto retry so you don't have to reload). Excellent arcade shooter moments that will make Roger glad of all his Astro Chicken, not too mention some excellent series plot line tie ins which I can't disclose.
So so so good that I haven't been able to stop playing for a couple of days and the trophy support adds more replay value.
Best SQ fangame hands down...dare I say it, one of the best Space Quests I've played (My favorite is IV). If you're a fan of the Space Quest series then please do yourself a favour and download this!
Thank you to the creators of this outstanding adventure for bringing back one of my favorite game series of all time in such style.
I hope Mark Crowe and Scott Murphy play this if they haven't already!?
I look forward to the sequel
The curious thing about this, is that , at first, the "incinerations" name sounded "too serious" to me, and I almost didn't play the game ...
Believe me: I'm really glad I played the game after all. It doesn't matter if you're a SQ fan or just an ocasional adventure gamer, you can't miss this game.
