The AGS Panel is a team of AGS forum veterans who play all of the games here, and give them ratings from one to five cups. The rating system is as follows:
1 Cup Not serious entertainment
2 Cups A reasonable game, worth a try
3 Cups A good game, worth playing
4 Cups A great game, well worth your time
5 Cups An outstanding, must-play game!
Feel free to disagree with the panel's rating, and please don't be offended if you think your game has been underrated!

(Why has my game been rated 1 cup?)

Close window
If your game has been rated 1 cup, please don't be offended! It's common for your first game release to get a 1-cup rating, due to the game having a lack of polish and flair -- which is understandable, because you're just getting started!

Please understand that the main purpose of the ratings is to help potential game players find high quality, bug-free games to play. You've probably learnt a lot about AGS as a result of making your first game -- so why not use that knowledge to start afresh, and do even better with your next game!

About this game

Famed for its mushrooming business and idyllic countryside, the land of Fungham has seen better days. A child has gone missing, a demonic witch haunts the woods and if you're not careful, gnomes will take your socks. Also, there is a pig king... don't ask. But why have all these creatures suddenly appeared? Where did the witch come from and what does she want? Could the answer to everything lie behind the ancient gate in the nearby mountains?

The Witch's Lullaby is a classical point and click adventure, somewhat reminiscent of games like King's Quest or Legend of Kyrandia. It was made in two weeks for AdvJam 2022, mainly to scratch a nostalgic itch for lush fantasy forests in glorious 320x200.

Nice King's Quest like Game

This was absolutely gorgeous, well designed, well executed, just a brilliant short adventure.

The story was wonderful, and the mood was borderline-storybook-scary without ever veering into actual horror, which I appreciated.

The dialogue was excellent, always driving driving plot forward and showing depth to the characters.

Art and animation were beautiful, I can't wait to see the full graphical remake.

The one bit with the clever game mechanic - you'll know when you see it - OH MY GOD I loved that so much. Like every other puzzle in this, it wasn't too hard, juuust sneaky enough that when you catch on to it, you still feel satisfied for figuring it out.

Even the last couple sentences of the closing made me smile. :)

Jan, you've outdone yourself, which is really saying something with the quality of everything you make.

Great adventure game.

Outstanding graphics. Animated.
Interesting story and premise. Big and imaginative world to move around.
Moody tone. The graphics and the music are coherent with the tone of the story that is somewhere between humurous and sad: a depressed ville where you need to pretend to be happy all the time.

If there is one thing tha I'd improve on it is on the blurriness of the graphics: beautiful as they are, they are a bit blurry because of pixelation and resolution. And it is ok for the background, but it is specially bad with the narrator's fonts, even though they are beautiful fonts, it makes it hard to read them because of the blurriness.

But again, great game, and fantastic graphics.

Agree. Superb game. For me, one of the best AGS medium lenght of the year. As biciliotti, I missed one exit or two too, but later I get used to it. Recomended.

Superb game in all respects, story, puzzles, graphics, you name it. Highly recommended.

A superb production.

Usually AGS games can be quite cheesy, but this one has a moving story that immediately captivated me. Graphics are handdrawn and then scaled, I think: background especially are impressive. Puzzles are sensible and enjoyable (I missed an exit or two, so always check for those).

Play it!
