The coveted trophy

Annual awards given to AGS games for excellence (and one for badness!). Fur all future awards, games should be entered into the AGS games database to be eligible. Nominees are selected by write-in nomination, the most popular write-ins getting through to the top 5 (or sometimes top 3), as long as they have at least 5 nominations. These nominees are then voted on.

The awards idea was originally floated by Yahtzee. The AGS Awards were first started by DGMacphee and later taken on by Pesty, SSH (2005–2008), bicilotti (2009–2014) and m0ds (2015). Since 2016, they are run by cat and friends.

Awards Ceremony

The winners of the AGS Awards are announced in a ceremony usually held around March the following year. Originally this ceremony was held as a live event on IRC, with the different categories announced by various forum members. For the 2007 and 2008 awards, SSH instead created AGS games consisting of long cut-scenes where the winners were announced on stage by AGS characters. The ceremony returned to IRC for the 2009 awards, when bicilotti took over. The following year, Wyz and Dualnames (assisted by m0ds and Jim Reed) created a multiplayer AGS client that allowed people to attend the live ceremony in a virtual auditorium, with a graphical presentation of the announcements, while remaining compatible with the text-only version on IRC. Updated versions of this client have been used in each year since, except for the 2012 awards which went back to IRC-only. Dualnames maintained the client until the 2013 awards, Snarky took over in 2014, JackLucy for the 2015 awards, and since the 2016 awards the client is again maintained by Snarky.

A list of award winning games can be found on the AGS games page, but this does not include all the older games. More recently, it has been a requirement for all games to be in the AGS games database to be eligible for the awards.
