My first modelled object with Wings3D! Rendered in CorelBryce5.
It's not a fantastic render, I know, I'm learning Wings3D, and this took me a couple of hours...

It's made along the tutorial, but I'm just proud that I managed to make it, and excited about future modelling of me :)

tell me what you think of it!

how much of this did you make on your own?  if you made that tree (on the left side with the leaves)...congratulations, that's not so easy to do.

you should try a shingle texture on the roof instead of deck planks :P

also, I suggest you look into some alternative lighting/rendering methods which will give more realistic outdoor lighting.  I've never used Wings, but is there a way to use some kind of skylight/daylight, combined with light tracer/ radiosity?

Minimi

Only the doghouse is made with Wings3D!

I imported my model, into Bryce5. Tree's are pretty standard, and easy to create, with the tree-lab. The textures are all standard, and nothing custom, and the material on the ground, is made by my own photo, of my backyarden, but I choosed random, so it's fuzzed.

So basically... a very quick render, without much attention... It's just that I modelled the doghouse ;) Wings3D, does not allow textures, but only single colours. This is what it looks like in Wings3D

ah, i see.  there is no free tree lab in max, where i work.

good start on your first model.

your dog has quite a nice house, i might add

i think the main roof could use some overhang

it looks like all of this is considered one object in wings...and...you are allowed to assign different material ID's to different faces with ease, and then drag and drop textures to each material ID?  that's what I am assuming from the image of your model compared to your render (its not nearly so simple in max!).  let me know how it works, im interested.

Minimi

Yes, that's exactly how it works. I know that 3dmax is much harder, but also too expensive for me, and Wings3D is freeware, and open source! So this is a real outcome to me! And I also know that the way I rendered it in Bryce was very lame! I'm much better than that, and wrote tutorials for Bryce on my website ;) I was just eager to test it out :P

to do the same thing in max, i'd have to set the material ID for each face, then (for each face) I'd have to put on the stack: a mesh select by ID#, then a uvw map (and adjust gizmo)...then id have to mesh select the whole object, then use a unwrap UVW, then edit that and adjust each vertex, then use the texporter plugin to map that (and probably go back and do some horiz/vertic flipping to get orientations facing forward), and then export that map and put each texture onto the correct place, then load up max and assign this texture to the object.  all to do the same thing...and then if i wanted to change part of it, instead of dragging a new texture to that part, I'd have to change the texture file for that segment.  max has a lot of capabilities but stuff like this...it would be nice to do that way...

Minimi

Well, you can import *.3ds in Wings3D. You can then just select the faces, and assign a specific material colour to it. Then deselect with spacebar, and select other faces, and do it again. The different material groups, specify, wich groups it exports to the Wavefront, or 3DS file.

So, for good render result you really need another program, from what I know till now (not trough all 135pages yet!), and render it in there, to assign better materials, lighting/shadows, background.

I'm going to use Wings3D for modelling models for a 3D Game, I have in mind, wich I'm going to make with DarkBasic.

If I could find 3dsmax somewhere cheap, then I'd really buy it, because I know it's way better, and the leading application.  ::)

buying 3dsmax just for a game is a bit of an overkill deluxe 3000 special edition.. i bet there are lots o progs that you can create models in quite easily... just open your eyes.. go google for it.. :)

InCreator

This picture cries for more ambient light. nice modelling, by the way.

Minimi

I made 2 new models, wich I think look pretty cool :) I'm starting to get the hang of it :)

Here are some chesspieces I made in Wings3D, and rendered again in Bryce5. This time own custom textures :)

What do you think of these?

Phemar

On your first the tree on the right looks awesome...

Moox

great chess pieces, ever tried maya?
