Hey!

A month ago or so the screen on my laptop "cracked" and as only a third of the screen is now visible I started using an external screen with it.

But now I am getting some troubles with it.
Since yesterday, the external screen keeps going dark, VERY dark, and I cant do ANYTHING about the darkness, I can still see a "shadow" of the screen so its not that it goes to standby or anything like that.
It just goes dark, and this happens alot, and only way to get it back working is to turn it off and then back on or to remove and reconnect the cables.
But then it will happen again within 5 minutes or less..

Does anyone have any ideas what might cause this problem and how to solve it?

Thanks,
Peder Johnsen.

Perhaps the backlight of the monitor broke? Though I'm not too sure if normal monitors even have that...

It is a flat screen..
But the thing is it works for a short while, before it goes dark..

And whenever I turn it off and back on it goes light again but then goes dark again very quickly..

Well the only way I can see you fixing this is by taking your Sunglasses off.

If only that was the problem...

it's not a screensaver or energy saving thing is it?
do you have it setup as the primary display in the graphics card settings?

You mean to say that isn't the problem? Are you entirely sure? If not look into a mirror and look carefully.

Are you sure you haven't scribbled over your monitor in a felt tip pen? I did that in my sleep once and it took me a week to realise. If it is that I recommend getting some tissues and a tiny bit of water to clean the screen.

However if that also isn't the problem you could try hitting the monitor or making sure your lappeetoppe is plugged in to the mains power. If it isn't then pick up the mains plug and plug it into the wall.

Its neither of the two.. as if it was wouldent the laptop screen also go dark?

I havent touched the settings since when it was working so I dont see why it should have anything to do with that, I just put it as the primary display and just now while I am writing this it went off again.. so its not that either.

i meant screensaver settings on the monitor itself, i've never dealth with an LCD monitor before so i don't know if they have those options built in.

My guess would be it's a broken backlight. Monitor might not be getting enough power or something. Try another monitor to see if it's not just the computer.
