On second thought...

Do we even have guest quarters?!?  Or is that code for bunking with Annabelle in the castle courtyard?

Oh well, here goes nothing....

WHAM

You have the Jester escort Rorik to the Castle's guest quarters. Perhaps new faces in the castle will bring more colour to the daily activities within. As he leaves, the Jester permits entry to the next audience: a tall man in a handsome black sailor's uniform.

"Greeting, King of Grimdark." -he greets you using your formal title.

"My name is Baron, and I represent THE FORKBEAKS, the largest and the strongest of the six pirate clans, which control the seas to the WEST of your realm. I come to you in hope that we might form a friendship between our peoples, so that we might trade valuables and necessities in a peaceful manner. Should your realm ever seek to traverse the seas, you might also wish to contact me to secure safe passage to the high seas, for the pirate clans mercilessly capture and ransom any who dare enter the waters without our permission."

BARON produces a long tube, which shines like gold.

"As a token of kindness and friendship, I wish to offer you this valuable ORNAMENTAL TELESCOPE as a gift. It is not an instrument a true sailor would use, I'm afraid, I for one would certainly not give up my trusty old spyglass for it, but it's casing is gilded and encrusted with four valuable gemstones, one for each of the sea winds. Would you accept this gift to affirm the friendship between the KINGDOM OF GRIMDARK and the FORKBEAK PIRATE CLAN?"

Baron

I wouldn't trust that guy if I were you.  He's got a shifty look to him....

miguel

Pointy hats! Who is he trying to fool?
Seriously, we should find out with our traders if there's any inconvenient on signing on with pirates. If not, I'm all for having "friends" in high sea.

> Accept the gift and invite him to dinner tonight; When he's gone summon our merchants and trader representatives and inquire about this pact with the pirate.

Tibatonk

Hm, no idea how to deal with the guy. Trade and friendship = good. But pirates?

Why not:

> Accept the gift and invite him and our merchants and trader representatives to dinner tonight and discuss the pact with the pirate.

Lots of Rum can never be wrong, people will love us when the rum is flowing and it can also be used to defend our city walls...

Doesn't "friendship" imply that we're allies? I'm sure a pirate clan would have many enemies, so I'm sure that making spontaneous allies (especially with people we don't know of whom might be evil) might give us instant enemies. But not accepting the gift would have him insulted and quite possibly turn enemy.

miguel

You're right Ryan, let's see what the dinner guests all have to say about it. If our traders and merchants aren't happy with this friendship we have a good excuse to decline the pirate proposal and still have him know that we tried.

This Baron seems like a friendly fellow and he did bring you a gift, so you feel you should reply to his kindness in kind.

"I shall accept your gift, Baron of the Forkbeaks, and in return I offer you a place at my table tonight. We shall dine together, and representatives from our traders shall be present so that we may discuss future trade between our peoples."

Baron seems pleased with your response.

"I will kindly joing you for dinner, King of Grimdark. Until evening, then."

The Jester appears to receive the ORNAMENTAL TELESCOPE so that he may place it in your treasury for safekeeping, while Baron humbly takes his leave.
The Jester soon reappears.

"Hail, My King. Your new treasure has been stored away safely. Shall we grant another audience or do we have greater plans?"

I guess everybody wanted to talk with Robina the Ranger in order to set our military force as soon as possible.
We'll then have Lancelot and Robina and their men plus the new trained town guard. Sounds safe enough.
I say that if we hire Robina we send her straight away on quests for treasures and land mapping.

Baron

We haven't even met Robina yet!  What if she's an old scold?  Or has braided-armpit hair??  Or is just a sad, lonely internet geek from Texas called "George"?!?  On the other hand, maybe she has an evening gown and can temper the testosterone at our sausage party dinner party this evening....  I say we

changed my mind

Tibatonk

So we're prepared to upset Hirschel the Wizened, herbalist to the kings?

cat

Oh, actually a herbalist might even better than Robina (we are currently training guards, should be enough for now) and a herbalist might provide us with income (trading herbs)

miguel

Now I'm curious about Robina's body hair.
