INGREDIENTS FOR A COOL GAME

Dear bakers, gamers, cooks and developers! Who of you has the best recipe for game making?

Here's your chance to show us your skills in developing a game. Check your recipe for game making for the most successful ingredients and place them (at least one of them) in the shape for us to learn.
If you haven't made a game so far you should come up with ingredients that you'd expect to be part of the recipe for a cool game.
Of course, some extra informations and explanations to your contribution are welcome.

I can't wait to see what ingredients you will consider the most useful and place inside the shape.
... and here's your shape:

You are allowed to rotate or mirror the shape (no scaling please â€" using imagezoom for displaying will make it easy for us to discover all the details).
You can use as much colors as you like, also to color the outline and choose the style you prefer.
Just stay in (the) shape and don't cross the given outline â€" but that's the point here anyway, isn't it?

Trophies? - Sure!
In case you let us take a peek in your cooking pot I thought it might fit to offer some rare pieces from the AGS-treasury located in the deepest abyss of madness.
Here are some of the priceless and highly polished AGS-cooking pots â€" to be used just by the best 'cooks' from the AGS'ers

So don't forget to reveal your secret ingredience post your entry before the 10th of April is over (forum time).
btw.
You are allowed to come up with several submissions (but you can win just once â€" after the voting is done your 'strongest' entry will count)

Now for the fun of it ...

... READY...

... STEADY...

... GOOO!

Mandle

Yay!!!! A new colouring ball!!!

Interesting if complicated sounding theme...

So, what kind of things would be covered by this theme:

Different adventure game characters/iconic graphics combined into the shape?

A bunch of concept words (plot, character, puzzles, etc) fitted into the shape?

Food ingredients representing different game components slotted into the shape?

All of the above?

Tabata

It can be everything that you define as urgent ingredient for game making.
As long as you are able to explain it it's possible to place in the shape.
It is your recipe, so noone can say that it is wrong

For example if you think that the main ingredient is time and lots of heart
you might fill in a clock and a heart. So in case the game will only be successful
with a special character he'd belong there.

But don't do it like the lobster in a pot

* Not an actual entry, since it's copy/pasted from AGS website and not drawn by me.

Tabata

COOL - we have our first entry  ;-D

So we can note down that your most urgent ingredient is named "copy and paste"

(laugh)  Yes, pile up those flappy bird clones and you'll be scroogemcducking in money and admiration in no time.

* Professional advice from a two-time MAGS winner and AGS awards nominee (nod)

Tabata

Yeah!
This is really exciting - we will learn soooo much

Your mom told you countless times not bring puppies or other helpless animals home, but you never did listen, did you?

When you found a little helpless "blob" at the beach you took it home anyway and decided the cat's litter box was a good home for it to live...
But you forget that babies do grow, and now you're stuck changing Blint's (as you named it) litter box every hour... and you have no idea where your cat is... When was it that you saw him last?? ??? 8-0

There are those who believe that life here began out there...

Tabata

Right now Blint fits nicely in the shape (wise of you to use the zoom to make it last a bit longer)  (laugh)

One thing I need to ask because I am not sure if I understood your 'recipe'.

Is that blob meant to be the ingredient?
Does it mean that you need sacrificing  a cat to a blob in order to create a good (horror) game?

cat

There is only one ingredient that can help you through long game-making nights - a big pot of strong coffee

Ah! I thought it was obvious... You need a container, litter box, and an ingredient, a blob named Blint... This will ensure that you are sharp and awake to work on your game (you need to change the box once every hour providing that much needed break from coding)... And Blint doesn't take no for and answer, he wants you to make that game... he's a sucker for adventure games! :P

Nah, not really... it's just that when I read "ingredients that you'd expect to be part of the recipe for a cool game", I didn't really thought about on the coding/dev side, but on the game assets (like characters, sprites, etc)... :-[ When I started I was just going to draw a nice sofa with an alien sitting on it... but then Blint invaded the shape... (roll)(laugh)

Ahhh....There's the cat! See! No sacrificing cat! Am sure when the cat saw the blob on his litter box, he just took the wiser route and when to do his things else where.... cats are very smart you know?

@cat
Ha, ha, ha  (laugh) â€"  I think that this ingredient gets a very high priority by several game makers
                                          - well chosen, cat!

@cassie
Thanks for the explanation. I first saw it more like a failed voodoo-ceremony that caused never ending
disruptions for the developer instead of being a kind of relentless watchdog.

Good to see you found the lost cat (Now I am speculating what your cat needed that litterbox for)  (laugh)

Great starters! - Keep it coming!
I am eager to see more of your special ingredients for game making

Mandle

And so yeah...

Here's the sprite itself:

and damn that screen width difference between preview and actual forums...foiled again!

The quality of the submissions in all of the competitions, lately, has me wondering if I have anything worth contributing. Nonetheless, the recipe for an awesome game might include one of these fellows. An elseif:

And no, Adeel, he's not doing what you think he's doing. That's a switch in his hand. It directs the data path.

A good community that offers help, feedback, support and inspiration is often a key component, especially for hobbyists and small indie devs. I'm sure that a bunch of great games would have never seen the light of day if there weren't places like the AGS forum.

Tabata

WOW!
Three more entries   8-0
... and clever  ... and  ...  aww â€" so nice to see the community, too  :-*

I already love the recipe of all those ingrediants.

Hmm - I think I need to search for a restorer who is able to get rid of the patina and crap
that still sticks at the trophies and polish them on high gloss all around.
You really deserve the best possible for your signatures. (nod)

All I can think of is the ingredient of Love.
AGSers try their best to stuff their big hearts into the world of AGS.
So here's an AGSer heart melting in the blue cup for all of you :-*

Yippie â€" a new entry and with one of the main ingrediants

Thank you for paticipating  :-*

Just to avoid confusion,
the MAGS theme isn't valid for this color ball

So in case that someone out there is still awake
and able to add an ingredient to our precious recipe
please do so!

Three days left for this tiny shape to be filled
and there are still lots of possible ingredients to choose from   (nod)

>>> come on â€" soup's not ready yet <<<

Tabata

Time has come to decide who deserves to be included in the Guide Michelin.
Who did the best using of the shape, is most interesting by idea/ingrediant and style ...
