It may be possible to play AGS games on a PS2 now.

Figured I post some links and start a discussion about it.

PS2 Linux Community

AGS Linux (for convience)

The concept to me sounds really cool. Other games can be developed for PS2 Linux also. In General this is big for the game development community. Theres many very good Open Source 3D engines allready available for linux also. The possibilities with this kit are awesome. I'm pretty pumped about it hehe. Think about it YOU could develop a game that runs on a PS2! Oh and no license or SDK fees either to distribute games and applications for PS2 Linux. Just the $200-US for the kit :) I'm planing to get one.

it'd probably be easier and cheaper to develop for the dreamcast as the OS is based on WinCE, it's already possible to play some SCUMM games on dreamcast using ScummDC, the dreamcast seems pretty easy to develop for...
what i'd like to see is adventure games on something like GBA as it's easily emulated on PC, $200 seems pretty expensive just to develop on PS2 when you consider the console costs less than that, nice idea though...

What I really want is an emulator for Tungsten palms.  It is faster than my old PC, in megahertz, and has a 320x320 screen.  I could play KQ6 on that old pc, so why not on my palm?  I read some scumm games play, but I am not fond of LucasArts games, except maybe Fate of Atlantis.

Not without an AGS Linux Binary compiled for a PS2 w/ a Linux kit. If I owned a PS2 (assuming I'd want to), and had the Linux kit, then I could provide a binary for it, but otherwise don't get your hopes up, sorry.

Dreamcast development sounds good idea. If somebody is interested about this, message me.

Getting or making a AGS Linux PS2 Binary doesn't seem impossible. I have alot of linux guru friends that would help. Provided the source is availble?

I notice though that Dreamcast development keeps coming up. Fact is Dreamcast is gone, its fading away, as sad as it may be it is.

PS2 aint going anywhere and if you look at the specs, the PS2 is a very nice piece of hardware. I don't plan on ever owning a dreamcast. I allready own a PS2 allong with ALOT of my PC gamer friends.

I plan to develop alot more then just AGS games for PS2 though. I'm most interested in making a first person 3D RPG. Along the lines of Marrowind, but with the battle system changed drasticly. IMO the battle system in Marrowind is NOT an RPG battle system.

Development on the PS2 is getting huge, the community is growing super fast considering the kit hasn't been available very long. It would be cool to see the AGS community involved.

Just for the geek rush of running linux on a PS2 is enough for me to get the kit lol

As far as the PS2 needing to be chipped, thats false. The Linux kit is an Offical Release from Sony, and doesn't require any additional chips or hard that doesn't come with the kit. Except a compatible monitor. Unless your monitor is some ancient 15 Inch most will be compatable.

The kit basicly turns a PS2 into a Linux Desktop PC. A pretty good one I might point out. 800mhz Proccessor, Serial Port, 128mb ram, CD Rom, DvD Rom, and one of the best graphic hardware setups available short of a GF-4
