I haven't been following the new ags releases, but I've been seeing this mentioned: Regions, what are they? is it just a fancy word for hotspot?
Thanks for answering my dumb question...

I use it to set the light level of an area, like light from a lamp post or a candle.
I've read somewhere ags will not support walking onto a hotspot  in the futre, so I'm trying to get into using regions instead. There's also player walking off, and player is standing (not walking onto) the region.

Yep, the regions come after hotspots. The reason they were added is that it's more logical to have player stands on, player walks on etc.. interactions are triggered on different masks than hotspots. Because originally hotspots were used to provide interactability via the mouse clicks, therefore the place where the player stands and point what the player clicks on could be different.

Does this mean hotspots will be removed or kept just for interactions?  ???

Hotspots will be kept, but eventualyl they will only support the usual Look, Interact, etc. commands, and not Player Stands On, etc.
