Sorry for flooding you with politics, but lots of things happen today. Moreover, there have been so many crap-threads here lately, so some thought-provoking stuff might just be in place.

Also, this is not an attempt to overshadow the american 9/11 anniversary...Dave started an excellent thread on the subject which I recommend all to read.

Anyway, thirty years ago, this day, chilean president Allende was killed in a military coup, and replaced by the dictator and tyrant Pinochet.

This is the last picture of him alive, he was found dead shortly after.

(He's the little frightened guy to the left. The rest are body-guards. They didn't suffice)

We have lots of refugees here in Sweden from the era of Pinochet's dictatorship, so let's never forget what happened, even though it happened before we were born, and lots of new things have happened that we also need to care about.

Yeah.
When Pinochet came to Britain a few years ago, I checked up who he actually was, since he was in the news. After reading, I was shocked that he was not immeadiatley escorted on the first flight to The Hague. I some how got the idea that when hated dictators go into exile, they go to seedy countries with corrupt governments. And yet he comes here, which is meant to be a law-abiding, and diplomatic nation.  :-\

Once correction: The moustache man in the photo is his personal doctor.

I am not going to start in political arguments, but I´ve recently listened a tape, a conversation between Pinochet and the officer in task to assault "La Moneda" the president´s palace...

It says something that "So, we keep the offer to respect life and integrity of the people surrendering?"

And Pinochet says: "Yes, we do, the plane for Allende for the exile is ready"

But Allende offered resistance... I think it was quite stupid of him to resist with a group of 20-30 men an assault with planes, tanks...

This is not a political reflection, I am just mentioning how stupid that act was...
Are you guys ready? Let' s roll!
