Hello.  I am working on a 256 color game and when I am testing it I keep having my colors randomly flash and re-set into what seems like random alternate colors.  This  does not happen regularly, but seems to be in response to when other things are going on in the  background of my system.  I run Windows XP and the problem seems the worst when my virus scanner is running in the background.  I scanned through lots of other technical posts and the only one that describes this problem perfectly is at http://americangirlscouts.org/bbc.com/yabb/index.php?topic=14152.0  - but no solution was found there.

I am running the latest AGS.  I would like to use 256 colors if possible, but I can't stand when the palette re-sets.  Has anyone figured out how to fix this?  Is it a XP thing, a graphics card thing, or something in my game code?  I'd appreciate any thoughts.

Does the problem happen when you run the game full-screen, or windowed, or both? Strange, it does sound like some sort of DirectX and/or driver issue...

It happens when I run it full-screen.  It seems like XP may be re-setting the game to full color in the background somehow, which then makes the colors go crazy.  If I am the only one who experiences this, however, then it may just be me.  I just don't want to post a game that causes this problem for others.

Did this happen if you disable all other background programmes?

Are you sure you're really making the game in 256 colour mode? Maybe some accidental click in the palete screen of the editor would make it a hi/true colour game.

But yeah, like CJ mentioned, it's more likely a DirectX/driver problem, check them first and try upgrading and see if such things are still happening. It might be possible that some programmes were requesting some updates to graphics but the card's driver?DirectX wrongly update stuff that they shouldn't, so try upgrading, maybe it's their bugs which were fixed.

i have something similar when i run something like that on my XP... maybe your scripts or agsedit.exe file are corrupted? try re-downloading. save your precious work to your docs then delete it and redownload. i did that and it sorted out.
