Is it very stupid to ask for a possibility to have translation text file for AGS itsself?
Like, some helpful people could translate AGS into their language, which encourages program use and amateur gamemaking?
Not to say I'm very anxious about having possiblilty to make translations but I remember there was an option to select a language in the dos version of AGS. :P
Yes, but that was for the game, i.e. the quit game dialog said "Vill du verkligen avsluta (Ja) (Nej)" when I set it to swedish, but that was about it.
Ah, thanks for clearing. Never used it myself.
There is a spanish translation. But I use the english one for several reasons:
-It's released first.
-It's easy to ask for help in the forums (without the need to translate your error messages or the menus into english in order to ask for help)
-The manual isn't complete yet (the spanish version).
Maybe it's just me, because I have programs in different languages (English,Spanish and Catalonian) and if you ask me in wich language is each one I won't be sure because I'm used to the interfaces and didn't realize(I'm used to computer terms in english).
Maybe it can be useful for begginners (or people with lack of specific vocabulary), but it could create several problems if there are not complementary actions (translate the help files, create a mini-community for the users of the specific language and update frequently).
I don't really want to encourage translations of the editor itself. These forums (and thus the tech help) is in English, the script commands have English names, the help file is in English - basically, if you really can't read English, you'd probably be better off not using AGS to make a game.
Well, I'm also interested into being able to translate the editor through a text file. I say this because I'm moderator on an Italian community on game making (www.vgmaker.com) and a lot of guys don't use AGS because it's in English. Besides, I'm also translating the help file into Italian. I agree that it's necessary to know a little English to use AGS even if it's translated, but maybe not so much to exclude a lot of potential users.
I suppose that everyone should learn English. It isn't an option to be translated a program into your language.
Anyway, i am from Greece and I USE the english version of AGS.
Imagine if all the script functions were translated ... chaos.
Yeah, translating a compiled program like the AGS editor is nowhere near as easy as translating a game, where you have a list of messages you can just extract.
A program has buttons, menus, dialogs, all of which would have to lookup a text file with message codes; a HUGE pain to program and an even worse pain to maintain.
