Since I'm not sure what the progress on the new suggestion system is, and this still seems to be the place for suggestions, I hope I'm doing the right thing here.

I've already brought this up once but I thought I'd submit it officially. Wondered if anyone would benefit from an increase in the number of allowed characters in AGS. I know I most certainly would (in fact, to do what I want, -some- increase is necessary).

Most people will be doing adventure games and probably won't need this, I realise... I do know that quite a lot of us are trying our hand at RPGs right now. I don't think we should be given any priority or anything, but... would anyone else find this useful?

I was thinking of an increase to a neat 200 characters or something.

Depending on what kind of RPG you're making, implementing some of the stationary characters as objects may help a lot.

Kinoko

Well, I can say that almost none of the characters are stationary but thanks for the tip! ^_^ I may be able to use it...

Albert Cuandero

Is that really necessary?

I mean you can assign a different view to the same character and let him speak/behave differently in different scenes. Just like an actor playing two characters in a movie.

Would you still need more? Or wouldn't that work? (I'm new to this, don't hit me now)
int do_you_like_me;
if (do_you_like_me == 1) Display ("You can call me Al");
else {}

If you're in a position where you really need more characters, I can certainly look to increase it.

Kinoko

Thanks CJ, I'd really appreciate it. I mean, I -could- look to cut the characters down but the game would suffer for it. It's not the most important thing in the world, but I just thought I'd ask. If it doesn't happen, I'll work around it, no problem.

It's mainly due to the fact that there are so many monsters and townspeople in the game. If it were a turn-based RPG, I'm sure the monsters wouldn't be a problem, but alas...
