ags 2.56d crashes because of sound settings

now sound worked to me semi-fine (i had to change the options a lil' bit) since the winAGS files. but in ver. 2.56d (last one i had before that is 2.54) it seems like the game crashes first time when i run the game with sound. it doesnt even display the sound init error, just heavily crushes.
I dont know which details to give so tell me if i didnt say something:

im using win98, VIA PCI audio controller as sound card. im sorry but i cant download the new beta to check if it continues. (but i haven't found a sound-comptibility fix i think..)

Hmm.... What format are your sounds, are they speech or sound effects, did you rebuild vox files, are your sound card options allright? How big is your game? how much memory you have? How much free disk space you have? It could be the machine running out of resources or something...

no, no, im getting the crash without even HAVING sound files or anything. either playing someone else's game or simply doing new game, saving and testing it.
and it ONLY happens on newer version of ags like 2.56d.
all older games work.

This kind of thing often happens if somethign corrupts your soundcard driver. Check those old games again to make sure they still work! Try re-installing the drivers, anyway.

WHAT IN THE SEVEN NAMES OF HELL? it works now! and i DID restarted my computer several times! and it DID crash time after another.... BAH! well at least it works...

it just happened again... it happens only some of the time...
but it happens ONLY with new versions it seems... and it happens only with AGS.

Re-download AGS? And re-install those drives. See if that helps.

Strange - can you provide the error message that you get when it crashes; the numbers there might help narrow down the problem.

pumaman - as i already said, i didnt get no error message - i just entered the game and it imidiatlly crushed without even putting up a black screen.

Does changing the sound settings in Setup help at all? Does it start up if you change it to No Sound?

hmph.. maybe this is a problem on my side, it seems to be pretty random : soemtimes it crushes sometimes no. now it doesn't... bah..

Sorry for repeating myself (and SSH), but did you re-install the drivers? Your files might be corrupted... aswell, do you have enough memory free?
