Hey, I was wondering if anyone else has a Wiiiiidescreen monitor. Why? Because I was wondering if you could run AGS game nicely on them.

Here's an example of my problem: I'm running Ben Jordan 3 as a test, and the game is 320x200. Of course, I can't run it at that low res, so I changed the resolution to 640x400. This screen supports 1280x800 (640x2 and 400x2) but when I run the game, it acts like it's letterbox and puts black bars on the top and bottom of the screen, making even wider screen. Everything looks mega stretched.

It's not a big dea, but it's just a thought... I mean, it would be cool if it didn't have those black bars on the top and bottom so that I can play the game at a perfect screen ratio.  :=

I was curious about that too - since I'm thinking about buying a laptop...
Resolutions I'm interested in:
SXGA+ (1400x1050 - not widescreen but it is a little unusual)
WXGA (1366x768)
WSXGA (1600x1024)

I mainly use my PC at home for web browsing and working with AGS - I don't want to lose half the functionality.

AGS initializes a full-screen mode of 640x400, and if your monitor is wide this will look stretched.

I would hope that your graphics card / monitor has some drivers that allow you to set up the widescreen modes to display black bars at the sides or something.

It doesn't have that option, but the issue here is that it's not only stretching the image, but also adding black bars at the top and bottom of the screen so it looks streched the wrong way. If it only streched it normally, though, it would look like Grundislav's original square pixel ratio, and it wouldn't be that bad. I find that really odd, so I was wondering if anyone had the same problem than I do.  ::)

Well in my opinion widescreen displays are all craps, for example the widescreen plasma or LCD TVs most of the time cut off a bit from the top and a bit from the bottom, AND squeezed the TV screen so all we see are merry midgets (I don't know if they can be set to display 4:3 images correctly, with black bars on the sides of course, but since I'd never seen such correct behaviour, I think it's safe to assume most don't).

Actually I don't think the experience can be more "cinematic" watching movies with widescreens, in my opinion if a 4:3 display is large enough who cares about those two black bars?

Back to topic, I think there's no hope in getting correct aspect ratio under fullscreen if the driver and/or the display can't be set to do so, in that case all you can do is to run the game in windowed mode...

If you're getting the letterbox effect, then your monitor doesn't support 640x400 and AGS is having to run at 640x480 letterboxed instead.

Oh, of course! I don't know why, but I thought AGS had a virtual resolution setup... like if it's 640x400 I thought it was just 640x480 stretched to fit the whole area.

I ares dumb  ;D
