My friend (who is not really an AGSer) downloaded a game I made using AGS, but he couldn't get it to work. He asked me to post this (which is presumably a message he was given when the error occured):

" Illegal Exception

An exception has 0xC0000005 occured in ACWIN.EXE at EIP = 0xBFF8C15B ; program pointer is
-189,ACI Version 2.62.772, gtags (0,0)

AGS cannot continue, this exception was fatal. Note the numbers above and what you were doing and tell CJ. "

He was trying to launch the game when it happened.

???Help? (Oh, and was I meant to post this here? Sorry if not!)

Quoteprogram pointer is -189

This seems to be related to the free disk space check. Does he have enough free space on the hard disk (i.e. it's not full)?

We had a few reports about this error message recently.
You can try running the game with the engine of the latest beta:

Quote from: CJ* Possibly fixed EIP=-189 error happening on some systems.

Copy the acwin.exe from this release
http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?topic=19369
into the game directory and run "acwin yourgame.exe".

Edit:

And please let us know if it solved the problem. Thanks.

He just emailed saying he did what you said, but it came up with another message saying:

You must create and save a game first before you can use this engine. Unable to find acsgame.dat

So no, it didn't work yet...

I think he tried to run acwin.exe by itself, which doesn't work. You have to run it with the game exe as parameter: "acwin gamename.exe"
or just rename the game.exe to ac2game.dat

Well it still hasn't helped, I think he's given up. Thanks for trying! (and I think you confused him, that's very impressive!  ;D)
