v2.56.629 - 2.56d Final: Released September 9th, 2003
* Updated with AGS v2.56d Final changes (Chris)

AGS 2.56d Final Runtimes for FreeBSD and Linux have been posted on my AGS Downloads page. At this time only partially statically linked binaries are provided.

I've tested the FreeBSD binaries on a FreeBSD 4.8 Release system with a cvsup'd ports. The binary requires arts, esd, libjpeg, libaudiofile, libgnugetopt, and a recent version of XFree (4.3.x).

Also, the FreeBSD version does not yet support CD Audio playback as I haven't yet ported libcda to FreeBSD. (Still researching that).

What happened to the editor port? Do you need help?

Nothing happened, it just hasn't started yet. As I've mentioned before, it's something I *plan* on doing, but there are several things I would like to finish with the AGS Linux/FreeBSD versions first before looking at porting the editor. Even when I do begin, porting the editor is going to be indeterminately long. I haven't even begun to research what will be involved yet.

In the meantime, I'm concentrating on fixing small bugs in the Linux/FreeBSD ports that I know about, trying to find a way to add mpeg video playback, and keep my sanity :)

Yeah. I`ve made some tests with the example programs in the wxWindows packade. I`ve found that some widgets like the floating window (GUI properties) doesn`t work correctly with GTK. I`ll test GTK2 tomorrow.

:-\  The new KQ1 does not work with the linux port of AGS... And yes, I have gotten it to work with KQ2 just fine.... and yes, I know KQ1 v2.0 didn't work because it was an older version of AGS, the new one, v3.0, is new enough..

Ah, KQ1VGA 3.0 uses a post-2.56 unofficial build, which is why it won't work. I'll see about getting the latest code to Shawn so that he can compile a Linux version that will work with it.

I will post an updated version this weekend if I can (at the latest tomorrow (Sunday Oct 5th) sometime). I'm bogged down with other commitments at the moment, and it looks like due to some Allegro *nix issues I may have to change how I build ags a little bit.

STOP TALKING!  Back to work, slave...

Who let you out of your box?
- Oh great, I'm stuck in colonial times, tentacles are taking over the world, and now the toilets backing up.
- No, I mean it's really STUCK. Like adventure-game stuck.
