went to test game, and my computer shut down

I've never had this happen before in AGS or any other prog on this computer

there's not much chance of finding the problem in my situation but just somethign to keep an eye out for!

What's your point? Come on, these kinds of posts help noone.

I didn't mean to be a bother, I thought CG might like to know if there are bugs in the code that can allow for this kind of unexpected behavior...most everything seems to be well handled by runtime exceptions but this one wasnt.  Knowing that they come up may help him tol solve them in the future.

The problem is you didn't provide any useful information that could help track down the problem.
"Hey, there's some bug in AGS." isn't terribly useful, not even for CJ.

Edit 2:

I know, but I didn't want to repeat the experiment!  All I can remember is that I had just changed some script in the GUI button detection section.

AGS should in no way be able to shut down your computer. At the very worst, AGS could crash and you'd have to load it up again, but it shouldn't be possible (at least on Win2k/XP) for an application to shut down the computer like that.

However, it's possible that if you've tested your game several times and something isn't quite right within DirectX (eg. drivers not shutting down properly when you quit the game), that attempting to initialize the graphics drivers could cause a serious fault. I've never seen anything like it myself, though.

What OS do you use?

If WinXP: The same happens to me from time to time... Not in AGS so far but it doesn't seem to be connected to any application you are running (Although it happens to me alot while I am using Photoshop... Could be random though ). It could be that your CPU is overheating because your cooling system is damaged or not working good enough and so your pc is shutting down to prevent a fire inside your pc or a burn damage on your cpu you wouldn't wanna have...

Hmmm.  Welll I use XP.  I just did a reformat last week.  I wasn't running into any performance issues at the time...but I was running winamp and had just changed the output driver so as not to conflict with ags.
