Driving a car

Every once in a great while a technical quandry pops into my head and I just have to start a discussion about it.  So, is it possible to create a driving simulation with AGS?

A realistic simulation, that is.  Not just an animating road with various objects coming towards the screen to mimmick motion.

Are you thinking PQ3? THAT is certainly possible, and so is PQ1 style.

And I believe a more relistic one is also possible, but wouldn't be really feasible in an avdneture game. Remember - Adventure Game Studio. With the occasional quirk. Like I said, PQ3-style is certainly possible.

My idea was more of about sitting in the drivers seat with a visible steering wheel.  I'm not really planning on making a driving game, this is just one of those random things.

You mean you jump in the car, see the places, and then in a few seconds you jump out and you are at another location.

Well, You could have an almost full verticle driving simulator. Just have a car sprite and a city. Add some realistic physics with the floating point plugin. Have a map gui etc...

Isn't there a partial driving game in the demo game? Motorcycle or something I think. Not fully maneuverable and I have never ripped apart the code to look at that part but maybe you could start from that.

Does anyone know where to find an inertia driving fizics? Just the basics(math forulas), i think that it won't be too hard to implement.

Well i know you wanted 3rd perp , but easiest way would be a top down view like Supercars, APB or even GTA, that would be easy, and much fun too.

As for 3rd Persp.. man that would be a head-ache, but potentially do-able.. espcially if scaling is used cleverly

It's funny, I am working on remaking the PQ3 interface right now actually.  I'm having trouble.  I've got icons working for the interface, you can click to speed up, slow down, which in turn changes the speed of the road animation basically.  This is basically not working for me at all.

What I have, are four animations in one loop for the road.  At animation speed 5, it's a slow road.  At animation speed 1, it's a fast road.  But here's the problem:

Say you're driving along the road and an intersection is coming up.  Oh you're in animation speed 1, becuase you're driving at say 50mph.  You decide to slow down.  The way things are, slowing down equals playing the animation at speed 5 now.  But just then, you decide to speed up again!  Oh let's play animation at speed 1.  Then, like an ass, you slow down yet again!  Guess what? We never get to the intersection because the road animation keeps playing over and over from the beginning.

Is there another way to do the road, change speeds, do turns, u-turns, etc etc etc without coming across this awful problem?
