Not sure if right place: QfG 4 1/2 doesn't even work

I downloaded QfG 4 1/2 from the Underdogs, and all it has are resource files, set.bat, and qfg.exe, it appears to have been compiled using AC back in 1999. It doesn't work for me in Win XP, it shows up as a blank screen, then quits automatically. Is there an updated version? Or is there something I have to do to get it to work?

Hiya Rich. Yeah, QFG 4.5 seems fussy to run on an XP system.
Here's what I did:

Explore to the folder where you have the QFG4.5 files.
Then what I did, I needed to Right-Click on the "QFG.exe" file that comes with it, then select "Properties" then on the "Compatibility" tab I found setting Compatibility Mode for "Windows 2000" seemed to let the game run fine then.  If the "Windows 2000" mode doesn't work, you can try one of the other mode settings.

D'oh! I should've tried that right from the beginning. Thanks, Barbarian! :D

Okay, new problem. My only copy was downloaded on my friend's laptop and I can't access it for the time being. Every link I find does not work, and Underdogs bans me after I download it once with Firefox (I downloaded it fine with my friend's Firefox). Does anybody have it and can they send it to me, either via email or FTP or web space, or something?

Hi again Rich. I'm on my way to work right now, so I don't have time to email it right now (It's about a 20MB zip file). But if you still want, when I get back home from work, I can email it to your Gmail account if you like?

Never mind! After being banned THREE times, I finally downloaded it...using IE. Firefox would cause the banning, but IE wouldn't. So I have it now.

Thanks anyway!

OK, nice to know you got a copy of it.
Do did you manage to get it running on your XP computer by changing the compatibility mode?

Yes, it worked just fine, although some weird things happen. For example, when the game displays a message, and I move the mouse, it appears to re-draw incorrectly wherever the mouse cursor is. Is this common?

This AGS used to compile that prog was buggy.

The game itself is also buggy. And the game has been abandoned too by the authors.

Seems the only chance of fixing game bugs is with a hex editor.

As far as I remembered, I stopped trying it because it always crashed when I choosed an icon (the stats one I guess) (in DOS).
