i play a avi/mpeg file using 640-480 resolution, i am in full screen mode yet when the video has finished it the game always minimizes itself
Strange... does this also happen if you run the game in a window?
no it works fine in windowed mode. I have tried changing the resolutions aswell with no success....Any ideas ?
If you skip the video by pressing ESC, does it still do the same as if you let it run to the end?
Do you have DirectX 9 installed?
yes it does the same if i press escape. i have tried different videos and still the same. yes i have the latest direct x installed
Hmmm what is the colour depth of your game?
*I am just guessing* maybe Direct Play needs to play the video in some other colour depths (most likely if the game was 256 colours), so there're some mode swithings, so for some reasons after playing the video, it failed to switch back to the original mode immediately?
the game is 32bit true colour so im confused !
Strange, I've never had reports of this before. When the game minimizes, if you click the game icon in the taskbar, does it resume and continue as normal?
yes continues as normal !
What version of Windows are you running?
xp
Bizarre ... has anyone else experienced anything like this?
Yes. It happened with an AVI file I made with flash. Same stuff as mentioned above.
Do other videos work ok for you - is it just that one AVI file that causes a problem?
I tried an MPEG, and a WMV. Same. I have DirectX9.0b, and I'm running Windows 2000 Server.
What video card do you guys have?
mine is nvidia geforce 4
The thread is very old, but the problem is not solved yet. I have the same problem and i don't know the reason for this.
If I change the Graphic Driver in the Setup to Direct 3D 9 it doesn't minimize anymore, but the Videoquality is very bad than :-[
Please help me :'(
My best guess is that you have some sort of video driver or codec installed that is causing this behaviour, but I'm not sure what is might be.
Are you having the problem with a game you made, or a game you downloaded? If you made it, what codec is the video using?
It's a game I made and it uses DivX 6.8.4 Codec , I created this Video with Macromedia Flash Professional 8
If you play the video in Windows MEdia Player, does it minimize that when it finishes?
No it doesn't minimize in media player
If you create the video with a different codec such as XVid or WMV, does the problem still happen?
With Flash we can only create XVid, but the quality is very bad.
We took DivX 6.8.4 (4 Logical CPUs) with this the quality is perfekt, is there another codec wich gives the same quality?
You can google for a video converter/encoder. Then just find and try some out until you get the preferred quality.
But since you're trying to debug why this problem is occuring, I'd say just make an XVid from Flash (even if it's crappy) and try it. If it doesn't minimize, it's probably a codec problem. If it does, it might be something else.

Does the video play with a good quality in an external video player?
All codecs looked good in other players. Now we decided for Xvid created from Flash with maximum quality. I think it's the best we can do, it works. We will never take DivX again. It only brings problems and doesn't work.
Thank for your help everybody ;)
So just to confirm, when you encode it with XVid instead of DivX, the minimizing problem goes away?
Yes, it doesn't minimize. With Xvid we have no problems anymore. But you should take maximum quality, otherwise the quality is bad and cloudy.
That's good news, thanks for the feedback.
I don't think this is an ags issue but a DivX player issue. After the last two DivX packages, some games will minimize during video playback to play the DivX video in a separate window (I've encountered this with one game in particular). What you should try is to check the DivX settings and make sure it isn't set to launching the video in an external player or anything else that would cause it to take the focus away from another program.
