Character's speech views aren't working properly. *FIXED*

I'm relatively new to AGS, so I hope I'm not overlooking something obvious.  When a character starts a dialog, instead of the character speaking, a copy of them in speech view appears in the top left corner of the screen.  What am I doing wrong?  ???

That just means you're using sierra style speech for the characters.  In the absence of separate speech views for the faces, AGS defaults to using a copy of the character.  You need to add a talking view to the character with portraits in it.  If you don't want sierra dialogs you can switch to lucasarts mode in the general properties, though you'll still need to make talking animations and assign a talk view to the player if you want them to animate while talking.
