Title: Can "Night of the Hermit" run in Windows XP(resolution problem)?
Post by: on Sat 04/09/2004 13:12:17
I have tried to run Night of the Hermit, which came with ACWin. ACWin tells me it needs to run in 320 x 200 resolution, but can't "set the video mode". I've searched the forums and can't find any fix for this kind of thing.

How can I make Windows XP run in that resolution? Has anyone gotten it to work on XP?

Thanks!

Night of the Hermit is quite an old game, and it's possible that the verison of AGS it was made with didn't support XP properly.
Did it come with a Setup program? If so, try changing the resolution to 640x400 and enabling letterbox mode.

I ran Night of the Hermit on XP...it worked fine but the fade in/out was too slow.

it could be your Video card, I hear that newer ones are starting to not support 320X200

Well, I am actually running a laptop. so I wouldn't think the video card would inhibit 320 x 200 resolution. Does anyone know how to force "night of the hermit" to run in 640 resolution or to make it run in a window? I'd really like to get it to work.

Is there  a set up I can download that will allow me to change it? I played King's Quest I and II and it allowed me to make the game run in 640 resolution.

Do you mean there is no a setup.exe file in the game's folder?
In that case make a shortcut for the game exe file, open shortcut properties and add --setup after the game exec name:

something like: "C:folderNameHeregame.exe" --setup

Clicking on the shortcut icon should get you to the game setup.

EDIT: Here is the KB question I've found: http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/kbview.php?id=60
